Sounds like all the fun was at JSS's 2nd show in So. Cal. I could only go to the 1st one at S.F. And, all the avatars with JSS, you lucky girls!

Man, I'm soooo jealous. No, not really. Everything said here is all in fun. It's just great to hear all these experiences.

A Couple More from the Meet and Greet

Postby mistiejourney » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:24 pm

Before I go on to the sound check, here are two good pics of Steve that weren't on the other pages.

The first one is with my friend Donna, who not only had the balls to ask for an individual photo when we weren't supposed to, she asked Steve to take his hair out of the ponytail....and he did! I'm still so jealous I could spit!

Your still as pretty as you were in the day. I am glad you have great memories to share with us. Thank you for your time, I know you are busy!

Rose's Wedding is Friday! YIKES! I will send you pics later!

Ginger, if you could find those letters it would be great because those were as it happened. I'm going from an (aging) memory! Trust me, if that had been a caress I would have been arrested for attacking the poor guy! It was all I could do to maintain composure as it was. It was there long enough for me to look around and see who it was (and cursing the shoulder pads!).

Can you beleive I found some of your old letters? I am so glad I am such a ruddy pack rat! Ha! I am reading through them now. I may not have all of them in one place so it may take me a while, just a great excuse to read all the letters and catch up on the past. I also have Adult ADD, and real ADD so I could be remembering it all wrong! You may have told me over the phone because for some reason I remember talking to you. But I will dig. Now I am really curious too! When and if I find it I will scan it and send it to you.

I found out why your last name seemed familiar but odd. I will explain privately in a personal e-mail. It is amazing how the mind works over time! I know now why I missed the shows! I was in Germany, I just read it in a letter from you! That sucks! My ex kept me away from that show! Jerk! Anouther reason to spit on his grave some day! 8)

Sound Check and Concert

Postby mistiejourney » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:43 pm

We boarded the bus for the sound check. It was overcast and looked like rain. And boy, did it ever.

But not yet.

At the venue, the guys were onstage and Steve asked us if there were any particular song we wanted to hear. He decided to sing "Send Her My Love". For the life of me, I can't remember what else was sung!

Now this was a different Steve - the night before he had been totally laid back, relaxed but now he was all-business Steve, this was the first time he had ever played in Puerto Rico - ever, with or without Journey (if my memory holds). He came down and signed autographs (no autographs the night before - another rule!) and then we waited for the show.

The rain started and it just pelted the hell out of all of us, including Steve, onstage with a live mic (no cordless back then...). I thought, "Good God, the man is going to electrocute himself....gee, I happen to know CPR...gosh I hope he doesn't electrocute himself!" We were wringing wet drenched.

Now mind you, this guy is giving his all, in the rain after having to postpone the concert two nights before because of being sick! And I have to say - and this is my own personal opinion based on what I saw, it looked like he was breathing rather heavily when he would head back to the drum riser like he does, with his back to the audience. I tell ya, you can't take the nurse out of the pseudo-groupie! While he sounded 100%, I don't think physically he was 100%.

During the concert I was right up front against the metal bars you see in the photos, about where I was sitting only closer.

We were in one hotel (what a dump!) and Steve was in one a few down the beach.

Back at our hotel, I had to go to bed because I had to get up for my flight in four hours. Right after I leave the downstairs bar, the entire band (without Steve) comes in. So I could have spent some more time with Lincoln Brewster. Oh well.

The cool thing about all this is that prior to the trip, only Donna and I were on the AOL Journey board. After, almost all the folks on the trip had signed up and were posting. We would meet on Tuesday evenings in the "Deep Groove" chat room and just blab away about everything Steve/Journey! :D At first it was just 7 or 8 of us, at it's peak we'd have over thirty on the site and have to have two rooms! Good, good times. Back when we paid for AOL by the hour! LOL! On a 2400 baud modem and we'd get kicked off the system two or three times a chat!

One night, I signed on only to be told Steve was there! I said, "Yeah, and Harrison Ford is in my living room...."

Well, Steve was there via Lora and we got to ask questions and she'd ask him and then type out the answer.

Lots of good friends, I kept in touch through the early Augeri years and I do believe some of them still meet on occasion!

Just in Case You Never Saw These

Any "loon" worth her salt probably has these pics - I don't even remember who sent them to me but since I was scanning I thought I'd put them up for anyone who hasn't seen them.

The BAMMIES are the Bay Area Music Awards. I think the blond is the old MTV gal Nina Blackwood. Check out Randy! :D

Still reading through those letters. Hey we were pregnant around the same time! You were at the end of a pregnancy and I was in early stages- I think it was around the time of my second born.

I found the Journey Friendship quilt Part II! Everyone sent me two peices so that if one got damaged, we would have a backup. Band included. I took the leftover peices and started peicing a second quilt from the second peices. You are on there. I will keep this one. The original quilt had 500 names given for the quilt. Their were 3,000 + peices that made up the front. I still have some of the original patterns for the artwork I embroidered on it. Man I am a pack rat!

Darn it where did that letter from you go!? I will keep looking. Thanks for this thread, I might get the urge to finish the second quilt for old times sake.

That quilt was AMAZING - you already posted the pics; I have a memory book page with them on it. Geeze, Rebecca was born in 1990 - we go way back to the Journey Force pen pal days! Pre-computer! LOL! Remember, they would list pen pals in the Force newsletter?

Great write up and photos MJ. Looks like everyone had a great time. I can't believe that was 13 years ago.

When we hosted the S.P.I.N. Hometown Travel Package in SF on that same tour, we had our welcome party at the Hard Rock. All our guests were sitting around having lunch and getting to know each other. Steve wasn't scheduled to be there but decided to pop in for a quick hello. I wish I had a video camera that day to capture the   on all those faces. He went from table to table and chatted with everyone. At one of the tables right behind our group were a bunch of very cute cheerleaders having lunch. He somehow made it over to that table, too. hmmmmm. Anyway, everyone had a blast.

Thanks for sharing your story and bringing back some really nice memories.

I remember being quite stressed out as the questions and answers were really flying. I type really fast but it was not easy keeping up with what Steve was saying.

Lora you did alot for us during those days, and we made friendships that lasted a long time. I just was reunited this year to Mistijourney. We wrote to each other from the time my daughter was born till I think around 1994 or 1995. Anyway, my daughter is getting married this Friday! And I am so glad to share this news with her. I was telling her I had old letters and things in storage. I found the leftover peices for the Journey Friendship quilt. I am tempted to make a second one for old time sake. This one to keep. I found fabric you sent for you and Cyndy, do you mind if I put it on? You guys were the greatest. You made the fan club fun, and made it feel like a family thing. I miss those days. Hope life treats you both well.
Events like these were made possible by alot of hard work. I regret I could not attend. I figured out I was in Germany at the time. Crap, my luck! Oh well, it is nice to hear how it went! Kim I know you are busy, and all this takes time to put on. Thanks for sharing!

Yes! But some how I miss writing. Well, just a little. Reading all those letters was a bit bittersweet. Made me miss the old ways. But lets face it instant writing! Who needs a phone? But some of the personal stuff is lost. I know I kid around about Steve, and life will probably never let our paths cross. But Youtube brings me there, and your story thread makes it fun. I am not worried about ever seeing him. I've lived this long, won't bug me! LOL Just nice to see how shows went you know?

   And remember, back then the internet was slooooooowwwwwww! You had to pay attention during those chats because we posted fast and furious every week.

Geeze, those were great times.

I remember getting the postcard in the mail that FTLOSM was coming out and I was parked at the Wherehouse half-an-hour before they were due to open. I was standing at the door when they unlocked it and the first thing out of my mouth was "Steve Perry" - the guy points me to the display and I bought (1) a CD and (2) a cassette because that was all I had in my car and god forbid I wait 10 minutes to hear it!

And if I remember correctly, we had a "listening party" at one of the chats when TBF came out.

Good ol' AOL!
