I don't get this, AT ALL! Don't get me wrong...I think Favre is a JACKASS for the way he's handled this situation. That said, The Packers are supposed to be trying to win games, and anyone who thinks that Favre doesn't give them the best chance of doing that is clueless!

What I find very interesting is the fact that the GM was hired 4 years ago and 4 years ago the retirement talk for Brett started. At the end of each season the press would start the "is Brett going to retire this year? Is this the year Brett will retire?" My god that got so boring. Brett never once even said he was thinking of retirement. Before this GM got to GB there was never any talk about Brett retiring. None at all here in Wisconsin. Talk of Brett making crappy plays but not of retirement. There's more to this story about GB wanting Brett to stay out of GB. Get to the bottom of that and you'll have the real story. My guess, the GM has a problem and using Brett.

Also...what's with everyone going on and on about the "success and impact" Journey is having??? What am I missing here?? I live in a major metropolitan city, and I certainly am not hearing any buzz about Journey. In fact, anytime I mention the band, the word association is always "80's band". I'm taking nothing away from Arnel or Revelation, but charting on the "Adult Contemporary" charts simply means all of us old fucks are still trying to hold on to our youth and keep listening to that style of music. If it enters into the regular Billboard top 40 charts, I'll change my opinion on this issue. Revelation is an okay CD, with a couple of really good tracks on it. I think most Journey fans are making Revelation out to be Escape (which it isn't), and it's simply not anywhere near as good as some would have you believe! I actually think "Arrival" was better, and I don't think Steve Augeri was half the vocalist that Arnel is!

A lot of sports pundits have compared the Favre-GB situation to Joe Montana-SF. Montana had won 4 Super Bowls for the 49ers! They had Steve Young waiting in the wings, playing backup for YEARS. By the late '80s, Montana was getting pretty banged up, but still considered one of the top quarterbacks in the game. But, how can you expect to keep a younger, stronger, faster, hunk sitting on the bench playing backup indefinitely? Montana was only about 33-34 at the time, too young to retire, so the 49ers traded (or released, don't remember) him to the KC Chiefs. He played there for 2 years, I think, where nothing significant happened. He finally decided to retire when he realized that he was born to play for a team with the system of Bill Walsh's 49ers.

The difference here is Steve Young was a proven winning QB, took over for Joe when he got sidelined quite a bit in games from taking hits. As have Favre in recent years with his concussions. Both Young and Montana made it to the HofH in their 1st year of eligibility. This young kid, Aaron Rogers, has yet to prove himself. Although, not following football much with the 49ers tanking after their last hurrah (early 90s).

Favre, like Montana, is made to be a Packer. I think he would look awkward playing for any other team.

Hey i stand by my remarks... it is a divorce and that is what is happening in GB and that is what Journey did to SP. ...the reunion would have happend already if PERRY/NEAL were serious about it. And if they ever get to the ROHOF i can bet that they will not SING TOGETHER.

I think Brett Favre, mentally, is going through what Joe Montana was going through . I was there, the 49er's were my hometown team. Euphoria in the BayArea for all those championships, and Joe was a sports God. Then, those last few years, every time Joe went down, and people saw Steve Young in action, the handwriting was on the wall for Joe to move over.

After Bill Walsh coached his last Super Bowl win (the 3rd or 4th), he shocked everyone by announcing his retirement, and handpicked his successor, Offensive Coordinator George Siefert. It was as if he wanted to go out a winner, and the changing the guard was set in motion. Although, not nearly the drama as happening now, I recall at the time, Montana pretty much said ... he still loves the game, he's healthy and good enough to start for any team in the NFL, if the 49ers don't want to play him then trade him to another team that will.

I think this is where Packer fans are at now. The difference is Montana never announced his retirement (from the 49ers), and the 49er's never offered him 20M to stay away !

The difference is that Montana didn't carry on with a bogus retirement tour, at the end of every season, and was always a class act. Hell, the guy is such an icon, that a town in Montana renamed itself "Joe" (true story) Also, Montana has a lot more rings on his fingers than Favre has! The bottom line is what you already alluded to...Steve Young won a championship with Joe Montana on the team. There was NO WAY that the 49'ers were sending Young to the bench for an aging and banged up Montana! Aaron Rodgers has never won a thing. As I've said, I've lost a ton of respect for Favre and the way he conducts himself. That doesn't change the fact that the Packers are a MUCH more viable team in 2008 with Brett Favre under center than they are with Rodgers!
