MelodicRock peeps appreciated in Riyahd and Dubai!

Postby Rip Rokken » Sun Aug 03, 2008 10:16 am

I keep getting unbelievably generous messages like this on Arnel's board, and they are just blowing me away... I thought this one was so cool I wanted to share it with everyone here as many names are mentioned -- can you believe this? Wow!!!

Hi Rip,

It's an honor to have you as one of the members of this fansite. The MR is also popular in Riyadh and Dubai. I have friends who often quote the MR members remarks on their e-mails. Actually, before I read the news on-line I read the MR Journey forum first, I particularly enjoy reading the comments of SJ, Rick, and SushiHunter. Stewe2 and Scarab are funny; and it would be nice to meet you all and have your autographs. Please extend my warm wishes to Andrew and his family. I thought of joining the MR forum, but for some reason I don't feel qualified. My reply is not related to your subject, but I feel elated to just be able to send you a message. -Flower

Kinda cool getting a nod from over yonder. :D Thanks for posting that Ripper.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

That's very cool...thanks for posting.
I'll definitely try and check in at some point.

However, more interesting is the Dubai connection...that location has been on my mind for some time now.

DUDE. That's awesome.

The people from the Arnel board are so kind and positive it blows my mind.

To those Arnel fans reading this thread.... WHY NOT join MelodicRock? We'd love to have such bright and forward-thinking people among us, it'd be OUR pleasure to have YOU here!

I agree. I believe AP brought something special to this band besides his incredible vocals.

Now that would be a party. San Miguel beer and porksticks on the Beach. I think the people would love it. Only downside is Airport Customs. BBC had an article were people got thrown in the clink for cough medicine. You would definitely need a travel prep page for people wanting to go.

They treat us like ROYALTY over there, and it's really opening a door to MR. We let Arnel know he had many friends and supporters here. I've been surprised this week how many people have told me they've been trying for a long time to get in but can't get approved. I said it was probably just beefed up security, but would check. Ideas?

Well MR has been treated (Arnel forum) as equivalent of UFC, scary or intimidating to some. But MR was always been the source for unbiased opinions and integrity. Kudos to Andrew.

I can only imagine how much it's changed in the 30 years since I was there. I was part of a musical revue that played for the Royal Family back in 1978 /79.
My most vivid memory is that of broken down & stripped Mercedes sedans , alongside the road, much as you might see a Ford or Chevy over here. The oil money was really starting to flow back in the late '70s, and they were soooo hungry for outside goods and services. I could see the possibility for Capital Investment, but I could also see the very present dangers there as well. Our first trip was postponed because of one of the many Beirut battles that broke out overnight.

Of course :)

Nothing decided yet, but the simple fact is that there is no sponsorship money anywhere in USA. Last show cost me $50k to do and I made maybe $500!

All options open and if something can be done elewhere to ensure another US show can happen, I'll look at those options too.

Andrew needs sponsors, doesn't matter where it's at. Those would be great cities for the event but he needs sponsors bottom line

Thanks, man, and I'll pass that along as needed. By the way, you are a much requested guest in the Shout Box! You should stop in, but be careful... you might lose the whole day in the blink of an eye there, and wonder where it went! Haha....

1. If I had a business I'd help sponsor, no help there though

2. If I had money I'd go to the Philippines, no luck there though
