No this isn't me and I hope the poster doesn't mind. She makes some great points in this eloquent post. Also, the format changes are mine.

And please let's not turn this post into some kind of AP vs. SP again. The point is about the behaviors of fans, both SP and AP fans.

I deleted the post since the purpose was not to pick on a fan, who was expressing her feelings, but rather to talk about some of the obnoxious fan behaviors.

The fact that Journey and Ellen Degenerate are now synonymous is sad.

Interesting comments but why would this person let a few ill-mannered jerkoffs posting on some web site change her opinion of her favorite band? That is just giving power to the playground bully. If you are still into the music, buy the CD, see a show and have a blast because that's what it's about - the music. When some new Journey fan suggests that I forget SP and move on, it just makes me laugh.

Yeah, god knows I've heard it all since I found SP & Journey again in '04 & found cyberspace...I almost left. But, nobody & nothing is gonna change how I feel in my heart, so I stayed....thank goodness, 'cuz then youtube came on the scene and all those fabulous SP clips I'd either forgotten or never saw appeared. :D :D I'll never forget the almost religious experience I had when I re-discovered "The Voice" again...it was the most surreal, intense experience...the scales falling from my ears, eyes and heart all at the same time. Pure & powerful magic. *sigh*

AP vs SP

Postby annie89509 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:50 am

Comparisons are inevitable, it's called fan discussion. I enjoy giving and reading other people's points of view. It is the bashing and disrespect that are hard to take -- whether directed at the singer or to each other.

You better post a link if you're gonna say something like that. If you can't back it up than you need to paddle your banana boat back to what ever shitshack you floated out of.

Where did Annie say filipinos are the most uneducated people she met, in her comment? Because she said that most of the ones she met in Vegas are uneducated doesn't equate to what you said in your post. I work with many uneducated filipinos who are stuck in our file room because they haven't mastered English or gotten their GED yet. I also work with filipinos that are far more educated then myself. You took Annie's statement and paraphrased it to match your interpretation of what you believed she said, then accused her of something without PMing her to clarify what she meant and then you call out Wech also. It's okay though, I reckon you are one of the uneducated one's so i forgive you.

Your link? Nice try, but ...FAIL.
Reading comprehension's a good thing to have, and it comes with an education.

Annie was saying that most of the Filipinos she's seen working in Nevada seem uneducated.
That is not the same as your claim that she said "Filipinos are the most uneducated people" she's met.

If there's indeed a concentration of uneducated Filipinos in Nevada, so be it. It's merely Annie's data sample.
It doesn't mean nor imply that there aren't any highly-educated Pinoys in NV.
The educated MAJORITY of Filipinos in the US is probably concentrated elsewhere, maybe in nicer weather.

Commenting on demographics and educational attainemnt can get tricky real fast and Annie's words
could have been more carefully couched. However, things are more relaxed here, or should be.

When folks here seem to misspeak, they usually get it pointed out to them so they can correct or clarify.
They are challenged properly. They don't have it cryptically dumped on their heads, along with the ugly label "racist";
nor do they have cyber lynch-mobs whipped up against them, somewhere offsite, where/when they can't respond
to ludicrous accusations.

That said...

Annie,

I'm Filipino, and if I wasn't in the habit of reading posts carefully, I'd have thought you had
it in for my countrymen. I remember seeing that post of yours back then, and reading it again before
I moved on through the thread.

A little more care when discussing demographics and education, maybe?

Her you go Guys!!

Postby sal45evan » Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:50 pm

1. I was asked to post the link by "Gunboat" and "Wednesday Child" using "F" word. I
complied.
2. Annie claimed that quote " I absolutely did not make such a statement!".
3. Webster dictionary definition of "illitirate". adj. unable to read and write. It didn't say any language " uneducated" not educated meaning again illiterate.

Note: Thank you for your forgiveness, Gunboat, you're absolutely right I' AM UNEDUCATED.

4. Let's analyze her wordings

a. " There are tons of Filipinos here in Nevada". If we equate this to unit of weight; it equals to 2,000 lbs. Since tons is plural, it means more than 4K Filipinos.
b. "I would say mostly uneducated foreigners that came over here to the U.S". Now she's not talking about Reno, Nevada where she based, she said "here to the US". She saying the entirerity of USA.; not only Nevada. "uneducated foreigners" reffering to Filipinos.

c. Annie, she didn't say that "most of the Filipinos she's seen working in Nevada seem uneducated''. She said "I would say mostly uneducated foreigners that came over here to the U.S". If the Filipinos population in US maybe approx. 2.5 million, then the word mostly may equate
to more than 1.25 million Filipinos in the USA.

d. Gunboat, she didn't say she met them in VEGAS, did she? She said " have many that come to my business on a regular basis sending money back home. It is very hard to even communicate with them, but I would bet they have no idea who Arnel or Journey are.

5. This is what I posted;

"did't you say while back that Filipinos are the most uneducated people you've met? That's total disrespect!
Shame! Shame! What comes around goes around..your time is up!

I stand corrected, I should have said that "didn't you say while back that Filipinos are mostly uneducated foreigner that came over here to the US" I wrote that first post
w/out reference on hand;my bust!

YOU CAN SPIN THIS ANYWAY YOU WANT IT! BUT THE SAD FACT IS SHE MADE THIS STATEMENT AND DENIED IT.

This my friends is Annie's statement, read the link.

http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... t=#4089946

There are tons of Filipinos here in Nevada, I would say mostly uneducated foreigners that came over here to the US and is working at casinos. I have many that come to my business on a regular basis sending money back home. It is very hard to even communicate with them, but I would bet they have no idea who Arnel or Journey are.

The big contingency that flocked over to Vegas to see Journey is but a small sampling--when you look at the overall scheme of the population. Sure, Journey appears to have a built-in fanbase (among those Filipino's that are into music), but it is yet to be seen how that will translate into record sales and concert crowds in other parts of the country besides So Cal-Vegas commuting area.

And, not to say I know the minds of all Asians everywhere, but it seems there is a misconception that just because the Filipinos have a natural kinship and excitement over Arnel joining an "American" band, this excitement doesn't necessarily extend over to other groups of Asians in Japan, China, Korea, etc.--nor any of the other Asian-Americans here. After all, we Asians are very competitive people. History has shown that there is more bad blood among this wide diversity group of people (lumped into a 1-name classification) than outside this group.

As a Pinoy...

Postby ttango1 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:29 pm

I'll say that she did try to qualify her statement later in the thread.

I apologize if my statement offended you. I was referring to the Filipino customers that come into my store. When they need help in filling out a form (in English), I would say that they are uneducated, since English is a predominate language in the Phillipines. That is not to say I don't get a equal number of Chinese immigrant customers coming into my store needing help in filling out a form to send money to China. Now I can't call them uneducated (they probably can read and write Chinese circles around me), just illiterate in English--similar to that Engrish sign thread that everybody was laughing about last week (which I did find offensive and hitting a little too close to home).

It is a fact that, in Nevada, the hotel and casino industry is the largest employer for low-paying, menial wages. It is also the #1 state, per capita, where foreign immigrants and "uneducated" Americans come to find work.

However, trying to QUANTIFY people on such a small sampling is LUDICROUS. That's like saying that just because 1 Raider fan stabbed a Charger fan, that all Raider fans stab Charger fans. (My Apologies to the Raider fans, but hey as a Charger fan, I've seen it happen...but I know that a great many Raider fans just like the team and none of the arrogance that the name connotes.)

Let it go pare! That thread shows where they thought Revelation would be. boy... some of them are WAY OFF.

I found that post to be long, boring, substance-free bullshit. Sounds like someone looking for an excuse to dump the band. Letting the actions of a few determine who you do or don't listen to is absurd. Sounds like this person is emotionally fragile as well. Oh well...good riddance.

Unrelated, but Amen to that anyway.

Sales-wise...
I say Platinum by September, but I don't think it'll do 2x platinum.
On this side of the puddle, I'm pretty pissed off at how they've marketed Revelation.
Excuse me... I mean, how they've (MCA) done ZERO marketing for Revelation.

Could that be because they realize that bootlegs/pirated copies are so prevalent? You are referring to The Phillipines correct? Either way, I am also disappointed that The Phillipines didn't have the same release date as the U.S. I really think they missed a golden opportunity to move a LOT more units had it been released simultaneously. Staggering the dates allowed for rampant pirating I'm sure.

Yeah, I know, this work gig inhales...

Packing for work trips to Austin and Wash DC at the moment; should have done it this weekend but was mezmerized by the AP site shout box and managed to lose the better part of two whole days...

Philippines indeed.
A release even two weeks after from the US date would have meant moving 250k units easily, IMO.
Possibly even 500k units ultimately. They fucking blew it...
The legit Revelation has been out for two weeks now, and yet virtually nobody here knows about it.
Even folks at the AP website (shoutout box) didn't know. ZERO promotion....
