Oh come on! This is a message board and posts are open to criticism and/or analysis. Saying Perry is good to his fans would be the equilavent of saying Schon would be a great marriage counselor...both being equally ridiculous. The difference being that the sane side can see that Neal wouldn't be a good marriage counselor and the insane/in denial side can't see that Perry treats his fans like they don't even exist...save 3 days a year.

I'm not so sure about that. There's a chance Neal would be a good counselor.

LMAO, you think the loons are insane?! Dude, if he's not doing enough for ya, hell move on.......you're beginning to sound like a spurned lover. You trying to come in and 'state' as fact that Perry isn't good to his fans is only your opinion compared to somebody elses. Why come and sh*t on Kate's post? :? Perry doesn't communicate enough, Soto communicates too much.....damn, there is just no making you happy is there?

I have.
Deb wrote:you're beginning to sound like a spurned lover.

Nope. Spurned lovers are generally in denial and make illogical statements. That seems to be coming from your side.

Deb wrote: You trying to come in and 'state' as fact that Perry isn't good to his fans is only your opinion compared to somebody elses.

Yeah...and you saying Hitler was good to the Jews would also qualify as my "opinion" versus someone else's. What's your point? I'm going on past history, facts and preponderance of evidence. Kinda the same way I could say Hitler was a fucking asshole I can also deduce that Steve Perry doesn't give a shit about his fans.

Deb wrote: Perry doesn't communicate enough, Soto communicates too much.....damn, there is just no making you happy is there?

Perry has millions of fans and Soto has a few thousand. Big difference. Perry was relevant in the music world at one time. In fact, he was one of the major players for over a decade. And I think it was what Soto was communicating about that was the problem, not that he was communicating. And for the record, I'm always happy.

Sure, he had a "decent" voice. I liked the guy's voice, a lot, on his own material. I was merely making the point that Augeri NEVER had the power to sing the back catalog. That isn't his fault, and doesn't make him a bad guy.

Loneman1 wrote: before they toured the poor guy to death.

Journey tours EVERYONE to death, and Arnel will be their next victim!

Loneman1 wrote:
He wasn't Perry by any stretch

Agreed, but many of Augeri's over-zealot fans went out of their way to make him sound like he had more talent in his index finger than Perry had in his entire being, which was simply laughable!

Loneman1 wrote:
or even Arnel at this point

I also agree with this. Arnel has MAJOR power and is at least qualified to sing in the upper register (something that Augeri's voice was simply never right for). I still Arnel needs to learn how to control his voice, but there is no question that the guy has the power to sing the back catalog.

Loneman1 wrote:
but I gotta say I thought he brought something to the table.

Yes...he brought Neal the ability to keep sending those alimony checks out, for another 8 years

Loneman1 wrote: Talent aside, it was pretty damn cool to see someone who had dreamed of a kind of BIG TIME moment like that and finally having it come true

From a human interest perspective, I agree with your premise. As a lifelong Journey fan, I just didn't think Augeri was a smart choice. To be fair to Neal and CO, perhaps Augeri was the best they could find, at that particular point in time.

Loneman1 wrote: IMO he definitely deserves serious recognition in the history of Journey.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by this statement. The history of Journey will ALWAYS be wrapped around the Perry years, and anyone who truly believes otherwise, is DELUSIONAL! As many yahoo Journey fans have noted "There was a Journey before Perry", and my response has always been...Yeah, in name only, and nobody noticed! That same group of fans goes on about how "There is a Journey after Perry". In the interest of being consistent, my response has always been...Yeah, in name only, and nobody has noticed. They are definitely getting more attention now, because of the publicity surrounding Arnel's youtube discovery, and the fact that the guy can actually sing. That will never change that the history and legacy of this band was established with Steve Perry, as their lead singer. If Journey were ever inducted into the HOF (And, I doubt it will happen), Augeri has ZERO right to be part of that, regardless of how many years he spent as "Journey's" lead singer! Nothing of any significance was accomplished with Steve Augeri, as their lead singer. He and Deen Castronovo are both good dudes, but hired guns, who have nothing to do with the music that Journey became famous for writing and performing!

Yes Perry has millions of fans, but to say Soto has few thousand, is that a bit too much? Soto has his fans but I believe it is around 1000 or so. Look at his cd sales worldwide and concert attendance. Please do not take it wrong I am a Soto fan.

Playit crapped on her own thread by not being willing to hear anything but glowing comments regarding Perry. Even when those comments jived with her overall point, it wasn't good enough. It was more about interpreting some evil spirited conspiracy to down play Perry's gesture.

It doesn't diminish the gift. And it doesn't matter what anyone of us think about it, Perry, or the meaning behind the card. All that matters is what it meant to her. It's unbelievable how serious people take this shit.

Playit---it was a wonderful gesture on Steve's part to send a xmas card to a stranger just to let them know how he appreciates your faithfulness to him and that you would love some new music , if possible.

Enjoy your gift for years and years and keep that grin on your face. :D

No denial here, I'm not the one with the issue of him not doing enough, I'm perfectly fine waiting for when/if he puts out more music.........but then again I've got my other 2 faves working on cds. :D

You want facts? Perry didn't have to surprise some of his fans at the star out of the blue like he did. It's not like he was promoting anything, nothing was filmed or pictured for promotion or anything besides the fans own personal pics/vid. Just did it cuz he felt like it. Fact. He also doesn't have to do the Q&A's either. Fact. Almost all reports of anybody running into him in recent years, he's been very accomodating with fans. Fact. So your "opinion" and my "opinion" differ. Fact. :P

For 2 "always" happy people, we sure butt heads a lot!

The same things can be said stat wise about Arnel as about Soto. I prefer Soto's vocals, you prefer Arnel's, no biggie. Where we differ I guess is.....I don't feel the need to belittle any of Arnel's accomplishments. :?

Do you actually think that spouting off concert attendance stats, etc are going to change my or anybody's mind about anybody's talents?? I don't know how many different languages I need to re-iterate to you that stats have NO baring on my musical preferences.

Dude...you sound like a jilted lover with all these "Perry is trying to derail Journey" conspiracies! If you seriously think Perry gives a fuck what the guys who are calling themselves "Journey" in 2008 are doing, you're nuts! I suspect that Perry has a small amount of sadness for what has happened to the "legacy", of a band he was responsible for building. That said, he's also probably laughing his ass off that Schon is circling the globe, in an effort to find ANYONE who sounds ANYTHING like Perry. It doesn't take a genius to figure out when Friga and Schon are talking about the "legacy sound", that they are speaking directly to a voice that sounds as close to Perry, as possible! I guarantee you that Steve Perry doesn't even acknowledge that "Journey" has existed, at any time after 1998!
