I love U2's live versions of "Help!" better than the original Beatles' version...but that's as far as I'll go in saying anyone can remake a Beatles' tune better than the original.

A few others that do it for me include Jimi Hendrick's version of "All Along the Watchtower", The Beatles "Twist and Shout" (over The Isley Brothers), Billy Idol "Mony, Mony"(over Tommy James), Santana's "Black Magic Woman"(over Fleetwood Mac), & Johnny Cash "Hurt" (over Nine Inch Nails).

A couple I can think of...

Rod Stewart's version of Tom Waits' Downtown Train
John Farnham's version of Tom Kimmel's That's Freedom
Gun's version of Word Up
Gotthard's version of Mighty Quinn
Steve Augeri's version of Castles Burning....never liked the song until Augeri's version on the '98 tour
JSS's versions of Queen's These Are the Days of Our Lives and Seal's Crazy
Talisman's version of Frozen

50/50...
Disturbed's Land of Confusion....like music better, but prefer Phil's vocals
Survivor's original version of Rockin' Into the Night....given to 38 Special, Survivor's version released recently
Phil Collins' You Can't Hurry Love
Kevin Chalfant's version of Survivor's I Can't Hold Back
Jorn Lande's cover of Foreigner's Break It Up

Is that the live recording with Kevin Chalfant on vocals? That version was absolutely storming!

Yep, exactly the version I had in mind. Great rendition

To start us off I believe the following version of Ozzy's Mr. Crowley by Tim Owens and Yngwie Malmsteem from an Ozzy tribute CD beats the original hands down. Vocally its leagues above the original's limited range and the music has more crunch, sounding fresher as a result.

https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q01H ... MHMwTVE9PQ

and the original...

The only time I've experienced a better cover version over the original, is when I first hear the cover before I've ever heard the original. I usually will prefer the cover in that situation because it was the first version I ever heard. My example is "Bang a Gong" by Power Station. First time I heard that song it was performed by Power Station in late 85' early 86'. And then a few years later while in Japan I heard the original by T-Rex. Needless to say, I completely preferred the Power Station version.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Guns N' Roses

(After Dylan, Clapton, etc., GNR finally gave the song some balls and made it ROCK! I LOVE the whole down 'n' dirty rock band meet that big choir sound at the end!)
