For a football fan (and I know you're a diehard), that's a dopey comment to make. For them to release Favre, before his "retirement" announcement, would have caused them a PR nightmare of MAMMOTH proportions! Why would the Packers EVER release a guy they have the rights to that they know they can get draft picks for???? No GM in sports would do that!

What part of that isn't the Packers trying to keep the guy away???? I don't believe that the Packers ever went in to the off-season hoping Favre would retire. That said, once he made his bogus announcement, they turned the page and their mission is to find out whether or not Rodgers is a keeper or not. I'm not sure why this seems so far-fetched to you. This shit happens in football all the time. It's an ongoing evaluation process.

AFTER he pulled the carrot from them about rejoining the team. They realize that he DOES NOT want to play for them. It's the easiest way to get rid of the cancer. They don't want to release him because that'd be crazy as you'd agree. They don't want to trade him to Minn. as I'd hope you also agree that that'd be foolish. He refused a QB competition for the Packers. What else is left for the Packers to do?

Absolutely they did. They took Favre at his word and reassured the fans that they were excited about moving on. What did you expect them to do? Start wailing about how they're doomed in the upcoming season? What I'm saying is that ALL OF THIS HAS BEEN ORCHESTRATED BY FAVRE TO GET OUT OF HIS CONTRACT. Not by the Packers because they need to make a decision on Rodgers as you claim!

According to what the Coach said in his news conference this afternoon. He had a 4 hour talk with Brett last night and another hour talk today and will be talking to him again tonight. Brett also did some talking with the GM. The Coach said that Brett was ready to play but not for the Packers. It seems that all the crap that went on this past year. All the lies and such really took toll on Brett to the point that he doesn't feel he can trust management. The fact that Brett and the Coach talked as long as they did, I feel, may help their relationship. But its the GM that Brett can't trust. I have a feeling that this has been going on for the last 4 year. Ever since that GM got the job. Brett couldn't take anymore and retired. But once he rested and all he decided he really did want to play football but not for the Packers. When the Packers wouldn't release him or trade him. He pushed the issue and it came to a head with Brett flying into Green Bay to once and for all get the dang thing done. Don't know where Brett is going. There's talk of him going to Tampa Bay. We'll have to wait and see about that part. At this monent I feel sad that it had to end like this. I've been in something similar. It's wears you down alot.

COOK: FAVRE WILLING TO PLAY FOR JETS OR BUCS

Agent Bus Cook tells Clifton Brown of Sporting News that quarterback Brett Favre is now willing to play for the Jets or the Buccaneers, and that Favre hopes that a trade will be completed by Thursday, at the latest.

“Brett feels he needs to get into training camp,” Bus Cook told Brown. ”He’s ready to get started.”

And it appears that no other teams are in the mix at this point.

“I haven’t heard of anywhere else,” said Cook. “Sure, he’d consider somewhere else, but it would have to be the right place. I don’t know for sure, but I think the Packers have called just about everybody. Tampa and the Jets are the two teams out front.”

Cook also told Brown he isn’t sure how the divorce between the Packers and Favre will affect his legacy. “I just hope people understand how we got to this point,” said Cook. “Yes, Brett changed his mind. What’s wrong with that? How many people, in how many professions, change their mind? The Packers were pressuring him for an answer back in March. It’s not a coincidence that he made his announcement at that time. They wanted an answer. He gave them one. Then after he changed his mind, they no longer wanted him back. That’s how we got to this point.”

So now Favre will apparently choose between the Bucs or the Jets. For the team that doesn’t get him, an unwanted distraction will follow the franchise for much of the year — especially Favre plays well in his new city, and the quarterback of the team that let Brett get away doesn’t.

If Favre’s preference is to play against the Packers and to compete for a Super Bowl berth, the Bucs are the obvious choice. They host the Packers early in the 2008 season, and they play in a fairly diluted division.

The Jets, on the other hand, don’t play the Packers this year. And they compete directly with the Patriots, playing them twice. The last time Favre faced Tom Brady and company, Brett was on the wrong end of a 35-0 outcome.

Yup, if he goes to the Jets, the only way Favre will play against the Packers is in the Super Bowl, and we all know the only way the Jets will get there is if they buy tickets. The Bucs provide him with a chance to play the Packers in Week 4 and possibly in the playoffs.

I remember when Steve McNair first came to Baltimore, the Titans tried to keep him out for as long as possible, so by the time McNair got here in July, I believe, he had a lot to learn. McNair said he wasn't fully comfortable with the new offense all year, even tough the Ravens went 13-3 that year. I think Favre is a dope, so I would look for him to struggle for the first half of the season at least.

If Rogers fails... the board of Directors of the packers will need to FIRE EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE, from Thompson to the Head Coach and start from scratch. The thing that people don't realize is that Rodgers DOES have an arm, and he'll deliver when he needs to. Not only that, he's got a little bit of scrambling ability. So if you're a Packers fan...watch out. He might surprise you.
