but I just missed it. I just finished watching Deen sing Mother, Father on YouTube. Was he ever considered for the lead vocal position? Was he asked?

It's been talked about but Deen always said he was not interested in doing it. He was not comfortable being out front. He likes being behind the drums.

Deen's voice sustained a torn cord a few years back and I know he's not interested in any way, shape or form in being the lead singer of any band, let alone Journey. He loves drumming and singing from behind the kit. He doesn't like the microscope that being the lead singer brings. Can't say I blame him. Rock on, Deeno!!! 8)

Cool, I figured those would be some of the reasons. Thanks.

Always wanted to hear/see a boot of the show where Augeri walked off, saying he couldn't do it any more, and DC came to the mic to finish the show. Wasn't this in North Carolina? Anybody have anything on this?

Raleigh, NC. I was there. It wasn't as much Augeri walked off, but that he was having severe vocal problems from note one of the concert. Deen was doing more singing than Augeri, who kept having to leave the stage. About halfway through the set, Augeri called Deen off to the side of the stage after one song and they talked, and Deen ended up singing Open Arms out front with just a microphone. It was easy to tell he was scared to death. They did Chain Reaction next with Augeri back, but the role was pretty minimal. Then, Deen did Faithfully out front again. Then, Augeri came back for the rest of the show, with his voice slowly building momentum. He was still pretty raw at the end of it, but a 1000% improvement from the beginning of the show. There was a youtube thing of part of Don't Stop Believin', but I can't find it. To put it mildly, it's not something you would want to see again.

For some reason, NC has a history of weird Journey shows. Charlotte tends to go off like clockwork every time, but anywhere else, issues can happen. Greensboro on the ROR tour had the bracelet launched at Perry, and then the Raleigh show in '06, which was Augeri's last show. Be interesting to see what happens in Raleigh on Sunday. It will be the first Raleigh show since that concert.

He should be the singer. :( His songs are the highlights of the show for me.

By all accounts including his own apparently he just wouldn't hold up vocally on tour in the lead vocalist position. Besides he looks a little too scary like he should be serenading you with Faithfully in an alleyway whilst gently stabbing you in the stomach and then selling your organs to the Russian mafia.

I agree. Singing one song, and singing the entire back catalog are two VERY different things! Deen has a nice voice, but it's still not quite as powerful as it needs to be to sing lead for Journey! I'd still like to hear Arnel sing "Mother Father", and can't seem to find a clip of it anywhere :x

Thanks for the insight. I saw Steve sing two nights before in Hershey. he did better than he did in Camden NJ. he was drinkin water and using that inhaler between each song.he was clearly losing his voice.I would have liked to see the Raleigh show just to see what really happened. It should have never happened like that.I can not forgive Journey for going through that concert with a singer that cant sing, and just leaving him there asking Dean to sing for him. That was dead wrong. Neal ,Friga and Dean, went through a year with out touring, and drinking problems. They reaped what they sowed.I hope they dont do the same with Arnel. If they do, fate will have its way again. I dont care for another interveiw ever.
