A lot of iffy assertions being made here, that I have to counter with these facts: -wech

1. Andrew was denied interview access by Journey management, for the BS reason that he wasn't fully behind the current lineup
Andrew gave Revelation a fair review. IIRC, Andew reported that Neal even called to thank him for the review.
The album got very high marks, but Andrew's prose bears none of the telltale drool that mindless fanboys
inescapably betray themselves with.

2. Arnel has said an MR interview will happen.
It's a matter of fucking record.
Unless you require Arnel to issue an engaved invitation or a notarized affidavit, it can't get much clearer at this time.

Arnel is not the same Arnel you used to know a year ago. He can not just do interview without approval and permissions from the management. If the management says no, I bet you, he will not risk his job by going behind their back and do an interview,..

3. As busy as he is, Arnel has the time/means to do an MR interview, probably via webcam chat.
The last APSB chat ran over a fucking hour. Right on the heels of another chat that also ran a respectable duration.
It should be easy to set up a closed webcam chat with Andrew, in installments even (to reduce the demand
on Arnel's time for R&R). The interview can also be conducted via keyboard, to hush critics who want Arnel
to give maximum rest for his vocal folds. Remember that Arnel is adept at video chat: it's part of how he
got his job.

Again, See above. Arnel cant just get on a webcam and do an interview without getting permission from his management.

4. The past ugliness was committed by a minority, but not a tiny minority. Incidents continued up til June 2008.
The majority should have howled violently against it in 2007... and I was lurking when that DIDN'T happen.
Marty's right that there's been an attitude shift around here, but it's an extremely recent one.
Is Andrew to blame for the ugliness? If nobody reports the shit to him, it likely goes uncorrected.
It's not like he can scan every single fucking post made here.

I dont think a shift of attitude on a forum, made for and by fans should have ANY kind of effect on whether or not Melodic Rock's Founder can do an interview or not. Its been said over and over ,,, what people say here has nothing to do with what Andrew personally thinks or promotes.

2 years ago, when BT people would kick people out if they didnt praise the band the right way, Andrew had all kinds of posters here casting their opinions. Ironically , the band seemed closer to Andrew's board rather than their own, for any kind of promotion, information and or interaction with the fans.

5. Arnel has learned to guard what he says, whenever it risks violating others' privacy, confidence or purview.
This isn't December 2007 anymore.
Arnel ignores or finesses the trickier questions on APSB. He won't comment on the ILAA cancellations of M&G's, and
he won't acknowledge silly questions asking him who he gets along with on the band, etc. Azoff et. al. can rest easy.

Thats a given. But thanks for stating it for those who dont know

6. Rip, Maui, Frogg, Dan et. al. have done a tremendous job of dispelling the MR image as a bunch of haters.
I don't see why they HAVE to do more, before you give Arnel or his peeps a call and begin setting it up, Andrew.
Maybe I'm unfairly lightening the point made about a potential backlash from J-management. What do I know?
You're the pro, and I respect your experience in how these things are done.

I think Andrew already took the steps needed to get this started after the original and intial steps were made by the members you mentioned above. At this point, I doubt it that Andrew would swallow his pride and start calling the same people who JUST told him the interview aint happening.

7. Hopefully Ttango and other Filipinos here on MR have shown that quite a few Filipinos are Journey fans first.
Filipinos are a naturally happy lot, and will have understandable happiness for Arnel's good fortune.
If the legions of Loons, Wigglers, etc. can have their happy enthusiasms, without inviting accusations
of mindlessness or carpetbagging, then perhaps so can Arnel's army.

Please dont add more to this by trying to dividing the fans into groups based on nationality. Those few idiots who made racist comments about Arnel are either gone or silenced thanks to Andrew. At this point , brining up the pro's and cons about this or that nationality, will only make things worse.

I'll continue mentioning Filpino culture, diet and social attitudes. Hopefully with such awareness, fewer folks of

and social 'tude(s) helps me appreciate what you're trying to say.

Every single Jouney member old and new has been ripped a new one here, at one time or another. So what???? People have opinions and this is a message board. This isn't that friggin' piece of fluff, BT!

Journey should be kissin' the asses of every person on this board that actually gave them ANOTHER chance, bought their lousy CD and have even paid to see them live again, after tapegate. These guys are unbelievable. They don't deserve the kind of fanbase they have. There are plenty of other bands for Andrew to review and interview. If Arnel lets them lead him around by the nose and tell him who he can or can't do interviews with, then maybe he needs to grow a set and give the interview for the fans he does have here. It's not a very good way to promote goodwill. Of course when was Journey EVER good at that???

There's different cultures within cultures. Much less those that span continents and hemispheres. Sometimes we get so caught up thinking "it's a small world after all" that we forget, it isn't. The foods alone would tell us that. I think that this incarnation of the band, while the past being what it is, has given us all perspective. I look at the wonderful crowd on AP's site and I just want to hug them all. I've said before, their attitude is contagious. Much to the chagrin of some Arnel has bridged an awareness gap for many. Whether that be cultural awareness, or self-awareness (eg, Cain's comment on Arnel making him a better person).

Some good points made and I'm glad that the history of all things Journey has provided us with another good debate topic, but time to move on.

It's no big deal. The guys are obviously still unhappy at the tone of the forum and my percieved lack of control at certain points. In time that might change or it might not.

My door is always open for interviews, if wanted or needed.

Haha, never a dull moment here on Andrew's Journey board.

Let's be honest, at one time or another, there was enough bashing directed at any primary J bandmember to make any fan of that member cringe. I certainly saw enough attacks against SP's character back in late '05 that made me swore off this forum the first go around.

Now, some people are pointing at the attacks against Arnel (which only last a month or so and only by certain posters that are no longer here) as the reason why Andrew is not getting an interview. If anything, I think it's the continuing jokes directed at "frig & fro" on this board that is hurting Andrew's standing with the band.

This makes a lot of sense. Perry has been slammed for years here and his fans have taken way too much grief. Schon and Cain have been drawn and quartered and I really can't imagine the guys from Journey or Perry, ever giving interviews to Andrew again. It is what it is and I think that an interview has to be earned. I think that when JSS was let go, so went Journey's giving a shit about this forum.

Right about the everlasting bashing of all the aforementioned, wrong in insuiating that because of posters Andrew hasn't "earned" an interview.
Time and time again he's condemned perry, loon, Schon, Cain, Augeri, JSS and Pineada bashing he removes the more offensive ones when he can but there's no WAY with the day-to-day ops of the site that he has time to delete ALL bashes of the above.
Shit, when he DID remove the ones he saw then a whole OTHER contingent got on him for censoring free speech.

As usual, Red13 forms his own interpretations depending on whether he likes that poster or not. This is not my insinuation. I'm only joining in the discussion of what some posters are claiming; that is, Andrew is not getting his interview because of perceived (past) Arnel bashings. Oh and when I started my jihad against the HATERS, it was only to point out that even though his cultural upbringing wasn't uniquely American, Arnel Pineda has what it takes to be the frontman of Journey. The sold-out concerts and the Gold on the way to Platinum album should say enough.
Nowadays, it's no longer a jihad, it's more of a collaboration and some of the Pinoys here who have met all kinds of posters from multi-colored Journey boards, either through chat or forum or live have expressed a real love for Journey and that, my friends, is a very cool thing indeed.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that this request was denied (for Andrew's sake), but I gotta say that some of the comments by folks about racism, bashing Arnel, etc. crack me up. While there are 'innocent' people here who may have not made any negative comments to/about him, there are also quite a few that made their share of jokes at his expense. There are archives that can be read, not to mention pictures and video out there. The righteous indignation is unsettling.

I'm not an Arnel fan, that's a given. I haven't been won over yet. There is nothing, repeat NOTHING wrong with changing your mind about someone or something, but just don't be a hypocrite about it.
