OT-Lennon's killer denied parole...again

Postby Angiekay » Wed Aug 13, 2008 3:45 pm

I'm certainly no Lennon lover, but I would hope this freak would stay behind bars for life.

CNN) -- John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole for the fifth time Tuesday.

The New York State Division of Parole issued a release saying Chapman's request was denied "due to concern for the public safety and welfare."

Chapman, 53, is serving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison for shooting to death the former Beatle outside his New York City apartment on December 8, 1980.

The killer has served 24 years of his sentence at the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility and was previously turned down by the New York State division of parole in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Chapman is held in a building with other prisoners who are not considered to pose a threat to him, according to officials with the state Department of Correctional Services. He has his own prison cell but spends most of his day outside the cell working on housekeeping and in the library.

For the past 16 years he has received conjugal visits with his wife, Gloria. The visits are part of a state program called "family reunion" that allows inmates to spend up to 44 hours at a time with family members in a special setting.

Inmates must meet certain criteria to receive the privilege. Chapman has not had an infraction since 1994, said Erik Kriss, spokesman for the Department of Corrections.

Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, in previous years has submitted a letter requesting that Chapman be denied parole. Calls Tuesday to Ono's legal representative have not been returned.

Fifty letters and a petition signed by almost 1,100 people were submitted objecting to releasing Chapman, said Division of Parole spokeswoman Heather Groll. Only three letters were submitted appealing for Chapman's release.

The next time Chapman can apply for parole is in August 2010.

I remember the day this happened very well, though I was just a little kid at the time. At the time, I really liked a lot of the songs Lennon had made, but I was nieve and enjoyed them all because I didn't understand all the politics involved in the lyrics, I was attracted to the melodies. I sort of liked them better when I was nieve like that. At any rate, yeah Chapman has just been a bottomless money pit in prison. Obviously he did the crime, there is no reasonable question of doubt in this case. I would think they would have executed this dirtbag years ago and saved hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of government funding instead of keeping him up in prison after all of these 29 or so years. You know this fucker ain't ever getting out, so why don't they just cut to the chase and off this fucker.

Not sure if he's still crazy but releasing Chapman's a death sentence anyway.

Manson'll never get out.

He will be assasinated within days of his release if he is paroled. That is a fact. As stated above there is a small army of people that will try to kill him the minute he hits the street... Count on it... People are still very upset about it 27 years later....

He is safest on the inside.. I wish they would let him out so justice can be served. Eye for an eye in this case...

If they let him out , they can't give him acccess to Todd Rundgren's collection. Rumour has it that he listened to Todd's music as a pre-game warmup before offing Lennon.

HALLE FRIGGIN' LU YA!!
However, it would be nice for him to get out so that he could get what he really deserves...

3 Warning Shots (To the Head).

They should've released Springfield's tune as a single. Says it all.
Also, why the hell do the news stories (or anybody) name this bastard at all? Making him more famous.
The guy should be tied to a car and dragged through the city by New York's finest. SOB

Hey NY, let him into the general population. It can be an accident. Nobody has to know...

I'm glad you guys took that for the joke it was. I'm not in any way condoning Mr. Lennon's assassination. That said, does anyone know Dave Matthews' address?

you beat me to it.

Warning Shots, track 6, Venus in Overdrive, available now, www.rickspringfield.com

it's a great tune. I think he is a Beatle fan, eh?

----from Andrew's interview-------

(laughs) You've been a huge Beatles fan ever since the beginning really, haven't you.
Yes.

Was She your little tribute to the guys?
Definitely. And also, 3 Warning Shots. Not so much a sonic tribute, although it sounds kind of Beatle-y at the start. It's about John Lennon's death.
But She is very much Beatle-y.

(SHE is track 10)

I can see where listening to Rundgren's music might have inclined Chapman to ace himself, but not someone else. Or at least Van Gogh both ears.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!
