Nah, I dont think so Rush fan. Journey with Steve Perry, Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto, or Arnel Pineda beats Rush's ass. Its OK to feel that way though because Rush is a kick ass band, just not on Journey's level. Just look at the hits collections, that speaks for itself....
And Im sure Journey kicked ass in Va.Beach-they have done the same everywhere else.

How can you even say with a straight keystroke that Rush isn't at Journey's level? That's laughable, IMHO.

Geddy smokes Ross on bass.
Peart pummels Deen on skins(now Smitty would be ALOMOST comparable)
And Alex is JUST as good on axe

As for singing, you may have me there....but Rush's catalog is MUCH more impressive.

How can you argue 22 CONSECUTIVE gold records? And is forth behind ONLY Beatles, Stones and Kiss for all-time gold acquisistions for a band. FOURTEEN of those 22 have gone platinum.

Again, how can you even BEGIN to compare?

I begin to compare because Journey has had more hits than Rush. Ask the casual fan: Faithfully or Freewill-I guarantee Faithfully. Rush were a great band in the day but the best is behind them now and even at their best it was far below Journey. So what who the better bassist and drummer is? Ross and Steve,Deen and Ansley do whats needed for the songs they play on.

Ok, now that you've laid the groundwork, parameters, and criteria....using your logic( more hits=better), Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and 50 Cent are better than Journey...

You heard it here Journey peeps.....

No smart ass, Im also looking at the longevity factor. Yes Rush has been around as long as Journey but Journey music appeals to a much wider audience. Britney, BSB, fucking Michael Jackson(you gotta be kidding right or are you really this dopy) will not have the legacy that either Journey or Rush will have. Journey is a household name. Rush-well they appeal to the classic rockers.

That's not what you said. Now you are changing the criteria. You said, and I quote(again)...'I begin to compare because Journey has had more hits than Rush..'

And I submit that each of the entertainers I added have more hits than Journey. You picked the parameters, not I.

Absolutely.

UncleKG wrote:While you may not be a fan of Geddy's voice, as a music fan, I would hope you recognize their talent and musical ability. RUSH was pulling around 10,000 people a night with no opening act. In this day and age, pretty impressive.

And for whatever reason(s), it's quite obvious that Rush has a huge following.

Reasons reiterated in bold above.

Agreed...Rush (and Geddy) are fantastic.

They are fantastic....just not on Journey's level.

Agreed. Geddy may be a technically better bassist, but his bass playing is over-the-top. A bass should never be used as a lead instrument, in my opinion. It's part of the rhythm section, so I prefer Ross' bass playing. Neal Peart is one of the best drummers alive, enough said. Alex Lifeson is one damn good guitar player, but Neal Schon is better. Vocally, Journey kills Rush.

Rick,

Does that mean you don't like The Who, Yes, Cream, Iron Maiden, Kansas, Talisman and others also know for using bass as a lead melody instrument as well? I don't think Geddy overplays. He plays melody and let's Alex & Neal carry the rhythm a lot. Lots of GREAT melody in his playing.

Look, if some bands didn't break out of the mold and do something different, it'd all be boring. That's why I love bands like Rush, Iron Maiden, etc. They each have a unique sound and the bass plays a large part of the sound for these bands.

It's a Rush staple, using the bass like that. It doesn't mean I don't like Rush, I do, a lot, I was just saying I prefer Ross' playing to Geddy's. I don't care for the use of the bass as a lead instrument though. But like Dave said, it's Rock 'n Roll, right? :D
