The internet is yet to surpass TV in terms of usage and medium of exposure for artists especially in the Philippines. This is where the above mentioned Pinoy stars have an edge over Arnel as they are seen more often than him. Also these two artists have released and sold more albums than Arnel in the Philippines. They were also seen on more magazines, newspapers, and even movies than Arnel. When Arnel last went home to the Philippines, he was still able to go to the wet market without being recognized. Try putting Martin and/or Regine in a mall and they will be mobbed.

Seems the internet is about to surpass TV in a big way in the Philippines here mosukoshi. I'm pretty sure it already has done so in places like America. And try putting Arnel in a mall now, I'll bet his ass gets mobbed like nobody's business now.

Be mindful that whatever significant or worthwhile happening in the internet is picked up right away by TV stations and radios (at least those that are doing a good job capturing current events---as they should!) & flashed to everyhome in the country with TV and radio---i.e., whether they have no computers or internet connections. I believe that has been happening with news about Arnel and Charice. Plus, everytime they go back home--tons of media outlets--TV & radio and whatnut are salivating to get interviews with them.

Another very effective communications outlet especially for the young Filipinos is the use of cellphone texting which is very cheap in the country. When I went home a couple of years ago, I was really amazed at how unbelievably fast these guys use their fingers and cellphone keys to communicate with each other! Unlike in the U.S., and perhaps elsewhere---it's very seldom that you see them having their phone close to their ears---but they are constantly in touch with each other!

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is the #1 pound for pound boxer in the world today. I have always said to my friends that the Pinoy fans will make the Perry loons blush when it comes to being lunatics errr fans. Consider the following:

1. When Pacman fights, the entire Philippines stop what they are doing to watch
2. On the day of a Pacquiao fight, the military, who so badly want to obliterate the rebels, declare a unilateral ceasefire
3. The rebels are in no mood to fight either as they are busy watching Pacman kick his opponents' ass. You can even walk in the areas controlled by the Abu Sayyafs with a suitcase of cash without fear of being kidnapped as the Al Qaeda linked moro rebels are also watching Pacman on their 52" Plasma TVs hooked up to a satellite TV receiver
4. Criminals are so busy watching Pacman fight that the number of crimes committed on the day of a Pacman fight is zero
5. When Pacman knocks out an opponent, people all over the world feel a slight tremor as a result of Pinoys scattered all over the world jumping at the same time
6. Alex Pappademas got passionate and angry emails from the Perry loons when he began writing that GQ article about Journey . When this boxing writer dared criticize Pacman, the backlash that he got from the Pinoy fans was a lot more than he was expecting.

At this time, Arnel is lucky if he has 1/4 of Pacman's popularity in the Philippines. When Arnel reaches that level, the Pinoys will redefine the meaning of being a loon. Don't say I did not warn you

Personnally though, I can't stand the style of music that Martin & Regine were singing in the duets. Arnel is so beyond them it's pathetic really...IMO. Neither of them could even come remotely close to cutting the mustard in a band like Journey.

Personnally though, I can't stand the style of music that Martin & Regine were singing in the duets. Arnel is so beyond them it's pathetic really...IMO. Neither of them could even come remotely close to cutting the mustard in a band like Journey.

Ballad after ballad after freakin ballad, that's why they can't break the American Market, the 1970's was the time for that stuff. Not to mention they do too many covers, I know revisions are big in the Philippines but here in the U.S., they are the exception rather then the rule, usually done by artists who have nothing left to prove. Having just the voice will rarely cut it here. You've got to be original and not live off of other people's work. How many artists have covered Ray Valera's work? Try to make it on your own merits for a change. Death Angel (a FIL-AM band) were all over the charts and MTV in the late eighties because they didn't conform to the Asian stereotype of only singing adult contemporay music, and all of their stuff was original to boot.

In the late 80's I had an American friend in LA who was into Death Angel. And about the covers, your absolutely right about that. This was just one of the many reasons I decided to quit Uly's band in the mid 90's and return back to the U.S. We were wasting our time and energy I thought doing covers and I told him that too. I wanted to do originals from the start. Because there is basically no new success to be had doing only covers. Scrubs like Wayne Newton love to do covers though.
