Def Leppard Pictures

Postby weatherman90 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 1:56 pm

I just got back from last night's Def Leppard/Billy Idol show in Winnipeg - were any other MR members there??

Anyway, the show was incredible as we were right at the end of Leppard's stage thrust. Got high fives from all the guys and a very long stare and hand shake from Billy Idol. My dad touched Billy Idol's boot and he's pretty proud of that apparently.

Def Leppard is truly in top form and Joe sounds awesome. If you want to read my entire review click this link to get to my blog: http://melodicrockconcerts.blogspot.com/

I was able to get quite a few pictures - I thought I would make a separate post here since the DL board is a bit dormant.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures - I've become a bit of a concert photography nut lately. The Boston Globe actually published my picture of Boston in their print and online edition two weeks ago, I'm still a bit amazed at that.

Great Pictures, I've always thought the world of these guys coming from the rough side of town, when England hadn't yet pulled itself out of economic mediocrity. I'm glad to see them acknowledge you guys, thats awesome.

Great pics Weatherman. You're building quite an impressive portfolio there.

Just a couple of questions. Did you get in the photo pit or were these taken from the crowd? You must have been pretty close to the stage.

Also it looks like a few of those pics were taken with flash. Did anybody comment on that at the gig (eg security)? Usually they are pretty hot on the use of flash near the stage, and in the pit it is always absolutely barred. I'm just asking because Def Leppard in particular have been known to be quite difficult for photographers to deal with (making them sign waivers and putting severe restrictions on any use the images can be put to).

My wife saw Billy Idol a few weeks ago here in the UK. She describes him as 'body of a god, face like a bag of spanners', but she loves his music. His guitarist Steve Stevens has a fantastic new (instrumental) album out too. One of the most rocking guitar albums you're ever likely to hear.

Hi Marty - glad you enjoyed the pictures.

We actually had seats that were at the end of the T shaped thrust, and the security allowed us to go right up to the stage. The venue had two photographers there and they were shooting just to my left, and I think the photo pit was located on both far ends of the thrust.

There were usually several security workers around me but when I asked them about pictures they said as long as I wasn't constantly taking 2-3 every 10 seconds I would be fine. The only time we were told that I had to stop taking pictures was when the whole band came out to the end of the thrust and played right in front of us. There I think the flashes could have got a bit out of hand with the band so close.

The only thing that I thought was odd was that there weren't any outside photographers in sight - none of the major newspapers were even there. I only saw two professional photographers and both of them worked for the venue. So maybe they weren't even giving out photo passes?

Regardless I think I was pretty lucky to be able to get the pictures I did.Billy was great as well, and it seemed like him and Steve enjoyed the cameras as they were posing for quite a few pictures. I did hear about Steve's solo album and I will definitely have to check it out, I was very impressed by him at the show.

Thanks! I just bought the camera in May and I just left it on the default setting. I just used flash on a lot of them and snapped away. I'm very happy with all the pictures I've seen from it.

They are excellent shots! I've had my FZ18 since last October, but haven't been to any shows to try it out yet.

I will try for the next show that comes around....kinda scared though...because last year at Van Halen, we were way up in the nosebleeds, and the camera nazis zoned in on me, and my TZ1...while everyone else around flashed away....but in 2006 we were front row almost center for Journey/Lep, and I took over 800 shots with no problem. Go figure. But I love the shots you took with your FZ18! So clear....you didn't raise the ISO or anything? Did you just shoot on the "P" setting?

Yes I just used the P setting, and although I didn't mess with the ISO this time around I will probably experiment with it at a future show just to see how it affects the images.

Strange, and no one from the 80 s should walk on stage without a fucking shirt on.Wax your breats and man titties, and feel good about yourself than put a fucking shirt on.At least Friga does that,he doesnt want to show off his erect nipples.I respect that about him

Great pics.

Getting kudos from Marty is like Neal telling you your guitar work rocks!

Thanks for the pics.

DEF KICKED ASS ON SATURDAY NIGHT in DES MOINES. EVERCLEAR SUCKED. who thought of that double bill in the first place outta be put in STATE FAIR PRISON. The music sounded a bit off, but the 10500, people in the audience did not care one bit, it was hit after hit plus ROCK ON,by far the best sound of the night; Come on Come on.. fantastic new tune and all the hits, LOE BITES sounded off a little, and all the other songs were just FUN and LOUD. I think the power cords were turned up to 20!!! and for those who think that DEF sings to tapes is out of there mind. it was pure live, loud and amazing. if they were singing to tapes as has been mention a few times, they would have souned more pure. Anyway GREAT week of shows for me is now done and this morning I feel the wrath of the Iowa State fair hangover. This years fair was among the best ever.
