Arnel wasn't with Journey yet during the song writing process, was he?

To add to that, on his Zoo videos, he spoke to the audience in English more than half the time.

Oh but come on... this is the Journey world, Jeremey... a world where Steve Perry is caught eating a grilled cheese sandwich and 6 threads pop up about how that MUST mean he's coming back to rejoin Journey, releasing a solo album and invading the Tigress-Euphrates valley all before nightfall.

It wouldn't be a normal day if words weren't being twisted toward the dramatic!!!

I agree. Why they are choosing to play the "We didn't want a tribute band singer " card is a bit weird to me as well. Most of us here know that had you and Journey been able to strike a deal that you would have indeed been the new singer. Most here also know the job was clearly offered as well. That's pretty obvious. I think the "We didn't want a tribute band singer" is for the masses of people outside of our little internet world. But I don't see what purpose it serves to discredit tribute band singers and any band that might hire one. What's the difference what your background is as long as you can perform the job? In all honesty, Neal should stop 2 things: the "I didn't want to hire a tribute band singer" rhetoric, and the "You'll have to ask Augeri" rhetoric when asked about his past vocal condition. Management needs to advise and come up with better answers for him to give than that!!!

These kinds of decisions about what to say are pretty much made like this - I've witnessed it first hand...

"What do we say when people ask about Jeremey?"

"Fuck it, just tell them we didn't want a tribute band singer!"

Case closed. Not a lot of thought put into it, not these things should be micromanaged, but that is about the size of it.

Haha, I think Neal would more likely put it this way: "Fuck it, just tell them we didn't want NO tribute band singer!"

Jeremey wrote:Just as a side note as I've seen this come up several times now. The party line RE me and Journey now as explained by Journey is "we didn't want a tribute band singer." That's the easiest way to spin the entire debacle at this point for them, as it's a moot and irrelevant point right now. But I assure you, ultimately my vocal resemblance to Mr Perry had nothing to do with the hiring of Arnel Pineda. I know that, Journey knows that, and what anyone else believes is really irrelevant at this point.

I agree it's a bullshit rationale they've cooked up.
It's even worse that they don't care if they discomfort you.

Additionally, I think it's kind of disingenuous to downplay and discredit my role in all of this when I have writing credit on their new gold CD. "We didn't want a tribute band singer but he did write these songs with us, versus the singer we hired, whom we couldn't really communicate with during the songwriting process because he spoke very little english." Sorry, it just rubs me the wrong way.

Actually, in this case, I felt he was trying to acknowledge your contribution, but making a really shitty hash of it.
Fuck all that, eh? Rock on.

I agree with anti-"tribute singer" bullshit. However, Arnel is NOT that. That's where the truth ends. Arnel is the new singer of "the new millenium." Doesn't justify the anti-Jeremey comments. Jeremey did nothing wrong as far as I know and was a huge asset to the band. Give him his props. :)

Actually, I made a cheese toastie with worcestershire sauce last night, and there was an uncanny likeness of SP and NS in a compromising position on it! So either they're going to kiss and make up, or the Perry/Schon slash floating about the 'net is more accurate than anyone guessed 8)

A couple of things..

Postby ttango1 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:41 pm

"We didn't want a tribute band singer but he did write these songs with us, versus the singer we hired, whom we couldn't really communicate with during the songwriting process because he spoke very little english." Sorry, it just rubs me the wrong way.

1-AP knows how to speak English. I think timing had more to do with AP not contributing any writing more so than inability to communicate. Recognize. I just want you to understand that English is the 2nd most communicated language in the PI.
I think Jeremey helped write a tremendous song :) I think that FITH was added as a shoutout to Augeri so like Jeremey, he too could get paid for helping write a tremendous song, even if it's dated.

2-Let the Haters hate and the tweeters twit. It's the same crew over and over that after all their idle banter, it's just acceptable redundancy. Let's just assume that from now on that if something positive is said about the band and their lead singer, that somewhere out there, someone will have to disagree and then talk about all the real or imagined negatives. Maybe that way, bandwidth is used for something more...whatever.

3-Why do so many make it seem like you have to hate one to love the other? I think all the leads for Journey had something worthwhile to contribute to the legacy. So what if some feel AP can sing some songs better? Like the haters say all the time, I can say what I want. You know what, so can the ones that say what they say about AP. It's an opinion assholes :) RECOGNIZE...everyone has one.
Me, I'm happy that I get to choose which version I want to hear at what time. That right there is called ability to choose what I want on my own. Groupthink can be a bad thing sometimes when you don't bother to do any investigation on your own to format your own opinion, you do yourself a disservice.

4-About Christian Bale and Batman...you guys seen this?

Why is it that any criticism of Arnel gets people labeled as haters? Is that the politically correct alternative for racist. I hoped some of the asinine youtube comments would stop but it's gotten worse. According to these comments, Now Arnel's better than Ann Wilson, Kenny Loggins, and Jimi Jamison (just to name a few). Steve is too efeminate when he sings, Kenny ducks the high notes. Why is there the need to disparge the original artist? These are the real haters. I used to give them the benefit of the doubt because I was an AP fan like them, but it's only gotten worse. This is the shit that invites responses from the Jimmyt types. I'm sure Arnel would be embarrassed and disheartened by the remarks made by some of his overzealous fans. I like Revelation but AP is not the be all, end all of vocalist. I'm sure he would be the first to admit that he still aspires be as talented as Perry, Ann Wilson or John Farnham. If that kind of thinking makes me a hater, so be it, but every artist that AP has covered should be shown respect for actually making a song wothwhile enough to cover in the first place.

I want to drink what you are drinkin right now, {except for fucking geager bombs} fuck me on the spelling}Nobody should put down the orginal singers, hell they are all pushing 60.Think of your Grand Pa singin Seperate Ways,or "Granny Ann" singing Barracuda. Any orginal singer has much more respect from me, and the new singers that are trying to cover them, than some of the fans that like what they are doing now.

Wow. I can say it is O.K. to like whomever you will. Stevew2 I am not bothered by older singers. Trust me my friend your time will come. It amazes me what young people describe as "too old". I don't agree with getting mad at anyone for a preference.

Some don't like the originals. That is fine. I would not take the slams too personally. I don't care for all the stuff said here, but I give you the right to say it. I might disagree with you. I think for the most part we have nice folks here that like to joke around alot. Be sure they are not just kidding.

Well said, G-bot! Honestly, I have not read the rest of the posts on this thread---but we're on the same boat on this one! I firmly believe that each artist should be appreciated in his/her own way, and in his/her own time! We can always appreciate an artist, as well as his/her work---without putting down another one! That is just fair---and balanced!
