K, we dropped that as most audiences aren't the Journey purists we are here & we were losing a lot of the crowd....Do have the demo on our MS page tho...

Ditto for Escape....We had to make some adjustments doing nearly all theatre shows now versus nightclubs. People want a more focused and tighter, brisker show in a theatre environment & we've found it works best now to do a solid 2 and a half hours than try to break it up over 2 sets (3 hours) and add the 4 or 5 lesser known songs we had been doing....I'm sure we'll bring them back at some point, but it's tough to switch the set around every night when you get used to doing the show a certain way...

It's really beginning to piss me off that people won't give new songs a chance.

There were always about 6-10 people that knew the song, but you have to understand that 90% of our audience is NOT the Journey fan that you see here. Most are in their late teens or early twenties and want to hear the hits. It's a fine line to walk sometimes, especially since most of the venues we're playing in right now are brand new. Once we build those audiences, then it may be easier to start changing up the show a bit...

I realize they probably don't know the new song but that's my point. That particular song is just as good as most of the set you are playing.

Well, that's dissapointing, but understandable, I guess. Hopefully you can rotate it in a bit for some of the other rare stuff (Still They Ride, Suzanne) on occasion. I'm guessing you are facing the same deer-in-the-headlights look with the other deep cuts also, right???

With songwriting credits, you definitely have as much right to perform that as anybody. If you have the teens/twenties audience, it's EASY to play up the "hang out with your influences" and stuff. With an audience that age, they missed Journey's big time, so they probably had to get it from someone that Journey was cool. Personal connection and having your song appear on the album is BIG cool points. One would think as long as you do a little intro such as "About a year ago, I was invited out to SF to do a little songwriting with Journey. Talk about a cool experience--how about being able to write a song with your idols!! At any rate, the song we came up with ended up as the OPENING song on Journey's newest album. It's called Never Walk Away. Check it out...", that you would at least get the crowd on your side. It's all about playing the audience--and putting a setlist together so that you keep them involved in the show. Just bookend the song with hits, so you don't force too long of a beer line.

You're stuck in the same position as Journey is as far as new/unfamiliar material, but I'd wear that song as a badge of honor. You have something that no other tribute band out there has--a DIRECT link to Journey. That has to be worth something.

Just my few cents...
