Checking in from Stormy South Georgia

Postby ScarabGator » Sun Aug 24, 2008 7:58 am

Whats up folks, been away for a bit lately but let me tell you-it is wet, nasty, and tornadic all around us here! Tropical Storm Fay has wrecked havoc on us. Flooding everywhere and 3 tornados on the ground at the same time a few minutes ago. Our warning sirens outside are going off every few minutes. In case anyones concerned I got a cooler full of beer, a mattress and an interior bathroom that me and the little Gators are gonna jump in and cover up!!! Take care my Florida brothers and sisters and fellow south Georgians---Ive been thru many of these and we will get thru it!!! PEACE!!!

Unplug your valuable stuff dude. I had lightning strike my house once and it fried the TV, the VCR and the "Surge Protector". Surge protectors do nothing against lightning.

Stay safe bro.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Luckily Fay doesn't have lightning really. Just days and days of rain, more rain, clouds, and some wind. We were VERY happy to get rid of her FINALLY this morning out of our area after putting up with her for 4 days. Crazy that a Tropical Storm can cause so much trouble :(

Just saw on the Weather Channel that some areas have gotten 2 feet of rain. Sorry you guys are having such a rough time of it. :(

I am lucky enough to live in a part of Orange County that is on higher ground. There were horrible flooding problems in the coastal areas though. And they said we could still have trouble with lakes and rivers here too, as the days go by. We are still getting our daily afternoon thundershowers now, so it's adding to the rain levels that we DON'T need. I just hope we get no more storms for the rest of hurricane season or I don't think some areas will be able to recover. Luckily it was more of a water storm than a wind storm. But water is bad too :( The amounts of rain from this tropical storm are just unreal! And it sat still for about 2 days, not moving dropping all that rain in one place, that's why it was so bad. I hope it moves quickly through Georgia and the panhandle and everywhere else it's headed!

I hear ya! I'm in south Georgia right now as well. We went to Wallyworld and stocked up with some beer and grub but I guess we should have stopped in the Depot for lumber as well....might be time to start building that ark!..for real,,,if I'd a known Fay was gonna visit the same time I was I would have brought my kayak. Wouldn't need to drive to a river now....could just launch from the front porch!

Stay safe Gator and report back when you can.

We got days of rain and wind but that was about it. We were far enough away from it where the rain wasn't that bad.
We were lucky this time around.

We're in Melbourne, Florida and we got the brunt of the rain and flooding. Over 30 inches in two days is what they are saying. We really came out just fine. No flooding or damage. Just being cooped up in the house for two days. Alot of people around here really suffered catastrophic losses.

Thanks to all of the well wishes guys!!! We made it although we still have more storms coming today. We actually had sunshine for a bit today. I had to clean all kinds of debris from the yard including some of my neighbors things that blew over. My pool is a disaster and the floats are all over the place, some I still havent found but they are somewhere in the neighborhood I guess. I really hope this is it for the year. I know my family and friends in Florida hope so too. As soon as things start settling down there Im heading to Orlando to help them save whatever they can of their homes. According to news, Orlando is getting ready to see serious flooding, maybe the worst ever. At one point last night we had tornados all over the place here and those scary sounding sirens going off constantly. But all is cool in Gatorland for now and after Orlando this week I will be heading back north around Thursday evening to be at the Swamp for kickoff where the Gators face Hawaii on Saturday....

Its supposed to start clearing out by Thursday...by then though the creeks and rivers will be overflowing. And I guarantee some crazy country boy tries to drive his truck thru the rushing waters and is swept out...they never learn.
