Not a band, but let's not forget Jimmy Barnes, especially since he had some help from Friga and 'Fro.

I couldn't find a good version of him doing "Too Much Ain't Enough Love," with a solo by 'Fro. I love this guy's voice.

Jimmy Barnes was the lead singer for Cold Chisel for years. Another great hard rocking Aussie band! 'Khe Sanh' and 'Cheap Wine' still get played at pretty much any Aussie blokey party. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH07B90NFjE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad0nXoaG ... re=related

Which is weird, because neither is their best song in my opinion. I certainly prefer 'You Got Nothing I Want' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwaGv8yn ... re=related
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

The album is 'Man Of Colours' - and yes, great 80s stuff!

Perth and Adelaide were full of grunge bands in the 80s and 90s. Quite a few were very influential on the 'Seattle Sound'. Just not a hell of a lot of clips I can post for them, unfortunately :?

Technically, they're from New Zealand, not Australia. But we claim them all the time anyway (except when the Kiwis are watching - those guys get snarky!)

Yeah, good version (and I think Johnny Diesel plays on it too) - but it always makes me think of rugby league (and I'm a Rugby Union girl :P )

well, for some reason, the Too Much Ain't Enough Love video has been removed. Strange, it was there a month ago.

btw....that Working Class Man video above was written by one Jonathan Cain--yes, that one.

Extremely good band, two good singers, killer guitarist in Ian Moss, and lyrically far superior to many out there. Also extremely versatile as far as the songs played (reaggae, blues, pop, rock), and at one time, probably one of the best live bands on the planet. Unfortunately, I think they are best known for the pop stuff (ie Cheap Wine), which really does an injustice to their sound if taken alone. Too bad they self-destructed. A whole bunch of solo careers with varying forms of success though--Barnes and Moss doing the best.

speaking thereof...Ian Moss solo

Interesting duo. John Farnham and Mr. "What's new pussycat?" himself, TOM JONES! Doing an AC DC song, no less! Classic.

here ya go....

For the uninformed, despite the pop nature of that album, Ian Moss was always more of a blues guitarist than pop, and subsequent albums went more towards the blues hard rock. You can hear the guitar riff in places on the studio cut, but it makes the song considerably less pop brought to the front here.

Don't think Hunters and Collectors has been mentioned yet, so "Holy Grail' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuCoCYhJ ... re=related 'When the River Runs Dry' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=737AoMcM ... re=related and 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H2Dl4bf ... re=related

Although I've got to admit I prefer DAAS's cover of that last one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j0g2oG_w2g

Got reminded of this band this morning - Nick Barker and the Reptiles, 'Make Me Smile' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgBHGMVi_AQ

And just for fun, Geoff Mack's 'I've Been Everywhere' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOADNQqB ... re=related

This thread has definately been good for me - made me go and search for all those Aussie bands I remember (lots of whom I remember seeing live) and get back into the groove. Some really good memories coming out of the woodwork!

Anyway - John 'Swanee' Swan, 'Samantha' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmdW72Nu ... re=related (if you think he sounds a bit like Jimmy Barnes, it's because they're brothers :) )

Some cheesy 80s pop :P Mondo Rock 'No Time' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHdMSk3A ... re=related

Even cheesier, The Cockroaches 'She's The One' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-xsDZQt ... re=related (oh dear, the things I've done while this song was playing  )
And yes, The Cockroaches evolved into The Wiggles!

The Models, 'Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVuM-NnQ ... re=related (a personal favourite, and another song that's gotten me into trouble, of an entirely different kind 8) )

And to remind us all that Aussie women get into rock too:

Divinyls, 'Boys In Town' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC8uYhSTKoY
Electric Pandas, 'Big Girls' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqYRVoCtcXc
Do Re Mi, 'Man Overboard' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc9ISfg_1VA
Eurogliders, 'Heaven (Must Be There)' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdQH9ULWD5k

I'm Talking, 'Trust Me' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXyJEAWl1o4 (extreme cheese warning!!!!)
