OT: Compliments to President Bush...Hurricane Gustav

Even though it pains me, I must give Bush and FEMA credit for finally not being asleep at the switch. It looks like the evacuation from New Orleans is really being handled well. It doesn't make up for the debacle of three years ago, as it was the worst handled domestic issue I've seen in my lifetime. That said, the administration should at least be given credit for learning from their copious mistakes, last time around. Now if I could only get "You're doing a great job, Brownie", out of my mind...life would be good

American Airlines has sent many crews from DFW to New Orleans to tend to the normal airport operations, while the locals get everything shored up, and will fly all back to DFW before the storm hits.

I've worked for AA for 25 years in October, and this is the best proactive approach I've seen from this company, and I'm particularly proud.

That was part of the problem that never got touched 3 years ago. Instead, it was all Bush's fault. In fact, the ultra-liberals (you know, the ones that still think 9/11 was an inside job and Bush was behind it) actually said at the time that Bush, by not signing some tree-hugging bill for the reduction in global warming, was to blame for the severity of Katrina. Can you believe that? They actually suggested that if he would have signed this bill, then our GHG emissions would have been less and, instead on Katrina being a Cat. 4/5 storm it would have been a 2/3 and, therefore, not as severe.

I agree on the governor. BJ seems great and the other looked like an idiot. And that Nagin...this guy is certifiably insane. Seriously. They still haven't cleaned a lot of that mess up. There are entire, big neighborhoods that have been just completely abandoned and the fallen down buildings and wreckage are just being left to rot. He says that they are still "waitin' on Bush" for the government to come and clean it up. Jesus. Take some responsibility and ownership and do it yourselves. How can they sustain as a community with this type of laziness and sense of entitlement? People still living in temp housing, government-paid for hotels, etc. My god people pull yourselves up and do something for yourselves.

These are general statements, of course. I do know that a lot of work has been done down there. But, overall, those people take their queues from their leader (Nagin) and if he's calling for handouts, that's what folks will expect.

That's great news. I think Jindal has a bright future but I'm glad he didn't get picked for VP this time around - he needs to finish a couple terms as Governor and then it'll be his turn.

I had a friend who lost her home and business to Katrina. She & her friends truly believe the devastation of her city & personal losses were due to the local govt.

They have total hope and trust in Bobby Jindal.

Really doesn't matter now who was at fault before..prayers and thoughts going out to Newalins.

No, it wasn't handled well AT ALL - my best friend lived in New Orleans back then. But yes, the people in charge did fail. The Bush Administration had no blame whatsoever for the immediate aftermath. It's what a sad state the city was in three years later that he shares the blame for.

I'm pretty sure that if it had been Greenwich, Connecticut, that there would have been much more expedience in helping out the victims.

Steve Scalise is calling on liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to apologize after he said Friday that the timing of Hurricane Gustav is “proof that there is a God in heaven,” since the storm approaching the Gulf Coast could disrupt next week’s Republican National Convention. “I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said. “To just have it planned at the same time, that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for Day One of the Republican convention, up in the Twin Cities, at the top of the Mississippi River.”

Heck, if he were in charge during such a situation, New Orleans would probably sink to the center of the Earth due to his mismanagement of the situation !!!!!

You know, maybe we SHOULD let GWB have that 3rd term....after 8 years he IS ready to lead as demonstrated by the Federal Governments proactivity now. It looks like he is just now hitting his stride.

You're out of your flippin' mind, dude! It wasn't handled at all, let alone "well"! To say it was handled "well" makes it look like you live under a rock! Saying "the people failed" is so short-sighted, and shows that you have absolutely zero clue about the demographics of New Orleans. Just because you have the ability to pack your family into your car or SUV and drive to higher ground, doesn't mean everyone else is in that same position. The reality is that in an economically depressed city like New Orleans, most of the people simply don't have the means to get themselves out of there. A motor vehicle is a luxury, that many simply cannot afford!

I am certainly not defending any idiot who refuses to evacuate, because I truly feel like these people get what they deserve. I am referring to the people who wanted out (and there were MANY), but had no way to get out. There are ENDLESS buses getting people out of that area that absolutely, positively weren't there last time, and according to the news, it's almost all FEMA related. Not only are there buses getting people out of New Orleans, but there are actually buses going through every neighborhood to get people to the bus terminal so they can evacuate. NONE of this happened "the first time". It was a fucking disaster the way it was handled last time, by the Governor of Lousiana, the Mayor of New Orleans, and the President of the United States. Anyone who ruly feels otherwise needs to go get their brain cells re-connected! People REALLY need to get politics off their mind and stop blindly following politicians, no matter what they do. Adults worshipping politicians makes as much sense as little Johnny worshipping professional athletes, who they think can do no wrong! Wrong is wrong...even if it's the candidate who you think is the greatest who fucked up.

I disagree. Didn't you see his speech the other night? He's going to take us to the highest mountaintops and cross the widest oceans. He's going to give us a reason to live again and take back our country from the rule of the evil Republican empire. This will be the time, years from now, where we will be able to look at our grandchildren and say that all hope and love had been restored after 8 years of conservative tyranny. There will be no more war, no more hate, no more pain, no more class system. We will all finally be one nation realizing our dreams together.
