The Re-history of DSB

Postby OneJourney » Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:28 am

For a long time, Don't Stop Believin' was one of those minor hits that classic rock stations would play. Journey's staple in the recurrent status was considered, "Open Arms". It hasn't been until the last 10 years or so that DSB has emerged as Journey's greatest hit. I find it interesting that the way you utilize your licensing, and usage...can get a song to hit even harder than it did when it originally came out. It seems they have done a very good job being picky about their licensing rights. I'm sure there are those that think Perry is too controlling, and I'm sure there's probably truth to that. But, no one can argue with how successful he has been at keeping Journey's old hits alive and well.

Of course the fact that they're still out there touring doesn't hurt one bit. :)

One word ... Soprano's

More than Monster, Family Guy, Laguna Beach, ChiSox or even touring, that show made the song more of a pop culture icon than anything else.

Agreed with the exception of:

I don't think its "they" nearly as much as it is "him". And not that I blame him in the least. If you allow your song (or whatever the medium is) to be splashed all over creation for the sake of a few bucks, eventually, no one gives a shit.

"Oh god, THAT song again?"

Artistic integrity. After what happened with those damn retreads, I'm left to believe the other 2/3 of that particular writing team would sell of their own mommas for a four figure bank deposit.
