And her cheekbones ARE amazing!

Don't laugh but I always check out people's hands and fingernails when I see them for the first time.
Hands can either make a good impression on me or a bad one.
I think she has good hands.

That probably only makes sense to me. But I know what I mean!:D

Makes sense. My father, who's a dentist, sized up people based on their teeth/smile. Part of that has rubbed off on me, as I tend to think similarly...

That's ok then. Didn't want you thinking I was a bit of a nutter.

I'm a straight woman, but I think it makes a pleasant change to have a well groomed, good looking woman discussing Politics on my telly.
Some of the Brit female Politicians would quite frankly lose a beauty contest to a Moose's arse.

And BORING? My Goodness! I'd rather try and chat to the Moose's arse.
Have a look at Margaret Beckett or Ann Widdecombe on google images and imagine them droning on your tv every night.

The democrats are hoping they can do the bill clinton thing again, and pull the wool over the eyes of dumb people in america with a "celebrity" who has zero actual experience and a barely legible voting record. The difference they are failing to recognize is that Bill Clinton actually HAD executive experience.

Hillary always came over as a bit hard to me. Like her ambition and steely resolve had pushed aside any warmth she might have.
Never met the woman, but that's just how she came over to me.

Need to see and hear more of Palin - but she has good hands. That's a start.

Maybe she wasn't known on the national scene, but even Newsweek was singing her praises just 11 months ago.

Yes, I was referring to the national scene. Also, I think if there is any merit to the story that she tried to have her ex brother-in-law fired (without cause) as an Alaskan State Trooper, she should be held accountable. From the stories I've read, the guy sounds like a nutbag. That said, it could be a propagana-spreading machine, because I find it VERY hard to believe that if he's the psycho he's been portrayed as, he would still have a job, carrying a gun on his hip!

One other thing...women voting for McCain because he has a female running mate is every bit as mindless as a guy voting for her because he'd like to bend her over and treat her right

she shoots... she scores! }:C)

i was REALLY impressed with palin's speech last night... i really... really like this woman... and i have always liked mccain. }:C))

one of the things we all need to worry about though is the safety of our environment. i'm all for drilling for our own oil in our own backyard but only if it's done with as little impact to the environment as possible. safety first. }:C) as of yet i haven't heard anything about how they plan on drilling... & doing so in a safe way... for the wildlife.

Actually, I wasnt. I think I was just sounding off about the crap regarding the liberal media's baseless assertions that she doesn't have experience...when she in fact, has more experience than Obama, McCain and Biden combined. That's really pissing me off.

While It seems to be a hot topic now (the idea that the media is trying to play a part in this), the fact of the matter is that Sarah Palin's candidacy for president exposes it....significantly.

They're desperate to deep six her as quickly as possible. They see Obama as some fucking white knight championing for their cause...and they see Sarah as a serious threat....so they've decided to go below the belt in anyway shape possible.

Just one look at the current news items on Yahoo's front page is proof positive that the media is NOT biased.

Regardless, keep in mind that I've been VERY down on McCain for years. Do searches here and elsewhere. I blasted the guy repeatedly.

However, he made the right choice. He picked a VP candidate that, for the first time in my adult life, has given me someone to be excited about voting for....instead of just voting to keep the democrat douchebag out of office....even if it means putting a republican douchebag into office, like Bush, or Dole or whomever.

Palin is that energizing to me....

I wouldn't discount McCain's military career. He has certainly made decisions with a lot riding on them and didn't have the option to vote "present".

Nothing the Mcain/Palin ticket says can erase the fact that the party they represent had 8 friggin years to solve the problems Palin talked about in her speech.... ALL the Dems have to do is remind voters of that...

Most of her speech was about how wonderful that old, over the hill fuck, McCain is. I don't care for Palin anymore than I do Biden. I'm not sure which one of them is more annoying. I guess by virtue of being heterosexual, I'd rather look at Palin. I'm just not buying into this nonsense "She has more executive experience than anyone in the face". While it's technically true, by default...she has about as much experience as Obama has!

My thoughts exactly. It was like "Introduce yourself- right on! Introduce yourself-right on!". She says "the right reason to go to Washington is to challenge the status quo"- Okay, so you're not just Bush Part II. Prove it.
She's hot, but I got NOTHING out of her speech at all. And what's with the kid's names??? Holy Crap: Track, Trig, Bristel, Willow, Piper?????

Willow's okay, but gees...

I've heard people say how "moving" her speech was. WHERE??? Had some funny bits, but nothing that makes me go "Wow, I'm inspired". Granted, I'm not a republican, but still, when you have a half hour of the US's time and you're wanting to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, INSPIRE some confidence. Her speech did nothing for me at all.

I thought her speech sucked.

I think most politician's speeches suck because I don't trust what they're saying. At least at this point, I do trust Palin and thought her speech was pretty good. Not amazing but good.

true. However, I didn't hear anything that I haven't heard before and it was the usual slagging of the opponent, etc. Is anybody else sick of that?

We KNOW Mcain was a POW. We get it. That has NOTHING to do with what he can do as president. It's irrelevant when talking about him as president. Yet, it's like they drag that out because we owe him a presidency for that. We do owe him for that. Maybe had we not been there in the first place... I loved it when she says "You go to Washington to change the status quo"- right, putting more republicans in is sure gonna do that. She's talking about "change"... please. She talks about how people she knows are "always Proud of America" and everybody erupts in applause as if to suggest that if you're sometimes not proud of America, you're somehow some kind of anti-American. To that I say "F U". With people just going along with American policy, much of the progress we've made since we were established as a country would never have happened.

Granted, I'm not a republican, but man, some of that stuff is just so friggin' old and tired. None of that speech was "hopeful" to me at all. It was all about her family, about mcain's war record, about mentioning the proper groups (steel workers union, etc.), slagging the opponent, and nothing about any kind of PLANS for how to get us out of this mess that HER party leader got us into.

Sorry, just pissed me off and I know that I'm not as edumacated on a lot of this as you guys are, but I DO know that I'm sick of where we're at right now and I was much happier under the Clinton admin. Sue me...

Ugh, need to change the channel and talk about something else.

Three simple answers.

1. BULLSHIT. She read a prepared speech that she barely contributed to - let's see how she does LIVE against VERY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE without a teleprompter and knowing jack shit about anything beyond the borders of her state and the oil industry.
2. My grandmother is hotter than Hillary
3. Hillary lost in a fair and square primary, so boo hoo

Her teleprompter got stuck about 1/2 way through her speech, so she had memorized it. That didn't seem to rattle her at all, nor did the code pink nut jobs trying to rush the stage.

I have no worries at all about her debates or media appearances. This is not a stupid woman.

Yes and no. Black people voted for Obama because he was black. The Clintons have done far more for black people than Obama. Hell, Obama was running around with shady land developers and domestic terrorists (Rezko and Ayers) while the Clintons were giving black people everything they wanted. They voted for him simply because of his skin color. Had black people voted on merit the race wouldn't have been close. Hillary would have won. All the social programs, welfare, grants, etc. that the Clintons gave out to blacks and they turned on her. Personally, I found it hilarious. Shouldn't have given them shit in the first place. Fuck (almost all) social programs.

Hillary runs for cover during a supposed sniper fire incident while Palin knows how to shoot and engage and doesn't need to talk about it.

the comparison between Hillary and Palin aren't even close with regards to political achievements, experience and governance. Hillary was only lucky that she got elected due to being a Clinton (much thanks to Bill). she got voted because she is a Clinton and not because she is Hillary. man, guess who did the campaigning for her when she run for senator and recently as a presidential candidate? who else but Bill. obviously, the people saw what Hillary can only do as a politician without Bill's help. and it showed that the woman has more good speech advisers than real agenda for the public. this time however, even being a Clinton cannot catapult her to the presidency.

as for Palin, well that's what you call a woman with a real political agenda. she doesn't have to become a first lady or married to a powerful politician before she generates an interest in politics. she is certainly a woman who can carry her own and has proven that she can govern.

Now, if only Palin ran for the presidency, she would had been the darkhorse of the competition. I believe she was also selected as a VP inorder to boost McCain's popularity. well, in an election, people shouldn't underestimate the relevance of a running mate. they are mostly known as the swing vote candidates.

Like she's the first person to ever read a speech written by someone else. Why is this an issue? Why is this being singled out by the media. At least the speech was written for her and not lifted like Biden did in '88. Also, she did help write it or contribute to it. Finally, the teleprompter went out for part of the speech. She did have to wing it for awhile.

Bring back Ross Perot! (A little joke, but a businessman could be just what this country needs...)

I try to stay out of all the political threads but I gotta say, I have really been struggling with this upcoming election.

I didn't vote last time around. I was so jaded at the process that I didn't feel it mattered. What started out as good ideas have been manipulated to excess. The campaign process needs to receive a complete overhaul. It no longer gives us the best choices. Good people get squeezed out because of lack of funds, lack of face time, lack of opportunities to be heard by the masses. Hell, my neighbor across the street might be a better candidate for Presidency but no one would ever know. The voting process no longer allows to vote for the best person, it allows us to vote for the person we believe to be the least worst choice.

I realized shortly after that voting is one of our basic rights, that men and women of our country die for. I will not marginalize their sacrifices this time around.

So I go back and forth on who I want to vote for. I really have no idea. I struggle with the idea of 'more of the same' from a man who is entrenched in the political system. I like the idea of a fresh perspective, a view from the outside almost, and the message of hope preached by the other. I wonder if hope can overcome inexperience. I think we need a strong arm in the office, one with little emotion. Yet some naivite (sp?) could bring new solutions to old problems.

I truly think McCain choosing Palin as runningmate was a brilliant decision. Maybe he can be that emotionless decisionmaker we need while she can lend a connection to the people. She can be good PR. (Really, isn't that all the VP is good for on most days). And I think he will get much of the female vote. Even if she was an "empty vessel" I believe her no more empty than Barack. And at the end of the day it is still about the person sitting IN the oval office not the runningmate.

I would say I am leaning toward McCain now. I just wish I felt like my vote might actually mean something. In this political campaign system I just don't feel good about any of them.

A bad joke from a "family" member was that Barack should have Hillary as his runningmate so we can have the first black AND the first female president in the 1st 6 months. I guess would could still get one of those....

The saddest thing is that I KNOW I am one of SO MANY people who feel the same way. The apathy toward the elections has grown over the years. All the "Rock The Vote" type campaigns to get young people involved is great. But I actually think the young people are the easy ones...it's those of us that have paid attention (or not) over the past several Presidencies that need to be 'regained'. I think that is the angle Barack has exploited. He certainly has inspired a lot of attention and vocal support. But is he the right person......
