Cherry Pie the album has some great songs...Mr. Rainmaker, Blind Faith, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Song and Dance Man, great songs. The album Dog Eat Dog has some killer stuff on it...Let It Rain, All My Bridges Are Burning, The Bitter Pill, & others, great songs. I've seen them live a couple times, quite a while ago though, and Jani sounded great & was a great frontman.
Melissa, I agree whole-heartedly. There's alot of great music on those warrant albums....but they were overshadowed by some over-pumped releases that killed the band's chances for success on the long term.
I found it interesting to note that the band's second album was going to be called Uncle Tom's Cabin, when A&R reps at their label put their foot down and refused to release it until a hit single was added. Aparently Jani wrote Cherry Pie to satisfy the label's demand...
Very similar to what happened with Winger on their second release. The album was delivered to the label without 2 or 3 tracks that are currently on the album. IIRC, the songs in question were Easy Come Easy Go, Cant Get Enough, and possibly Miles Away. The label demanded some more radio friendly hits, these songs were added to the album and boom...that was the makeup of the singles from the album. If you listen to In The Heart Of The Young without those 2-3 songs, you hear a very different album. In fact, an album that is more in line with the progression the band made from the first release to IV, where they got heavier and moodier as they went along. That's part of the reason why the transition from ITHOTY to Pull is so drastic. Remove those three singles from ITHOTY and you have a better progression.
