Being a bit overdramatic there, aren't you? Timlin actually had been pitching very well over the last half of the year up until these last two outings. That being said, they probably need to replace the guy. He's been a good pitcher out of the pen over the last few years but the guy is 42. I think he's done.

I think its been a pretty good year for the Sox considering that much of the team is tired and often injured from the extra long season last year & I still expect them to get the Rays on the final series.
If the Sox get the wild card and face the Angels perhaps even better for them. Irregardless of the fact that the Angels are kicking the crap out of everybody this year, the red sox always seem to get their number at the most important time.

They haven't missed Ramirez at all. The team's batting average and slugging percentage have both gone up since the trade. Yes, Manny has been tearing the cover off the ball since going to LA but his replacement, Jason Bay, has driven in 33 runs in 35 games with the Sox and has a higher slugging percentage than did Manny while he was still with the team.

I'm with Dave on this one, Joepa. Although Manny's addition to the Dodgers has been a huge boost for them (and why wouldn't it be for a team who can't hit to save their lives), his absence in Boston has almost gone unnoticed. That's a pretty astonishing fact, given Manny is one of the greatest hitters, EVER, in MLB history! Manny's antics were POISON in the clubhouse, and I honestly don't care that he's gone. If the Dodgers go on to win the World Series and the Red Sox don't even make the playoffs, I still won't feel any differently about Manny being gone. Manny's act simply doesn't fly in a city like Boston. It was time for Manny to go 5 years ago, so I'm glad he's gone! On another note...how about your boy McCupcake

It was directed at John.....and while he is a masshole, he happens to be one of my favorite massholes...I enjoy his rants. If I ever get up to fenway to see a game, he's the first fucker I'm calling....I figure he'd probably be a great fenway tour guide/beer drinking companion.

I had always theorized that one of the reasons attributed to Ortiz's 'becoming' after becoming a RedSock, was the protection that Manny gave him in the lineup. I think his lower production this year is more due to injuries than anything and he missed about 50 games. He's been in the .250s and .260s for most of the year and getting about 1 hr every 20 AB or so. His RBI production is about right, though. He's got 73 in 362 AB, which would come out to about 125 for the entire year if he played the whole season.

I remain but a casual Eagles observer until the outset of the Kevin Kolb era, then I'll be a full-blown Igglez Zealot again. I honestly CAN'T even enjoy wins while his fat ass is under center.

His numbers have been affected a bit, but nothing all that noticeable. I think the only number that has been greatly affected that can be directly attributable to Manny's departure are the walks. Teams have no reason to pitch to Ortiz without Manny hitting behind him. They've been mostly hitting Kevin Youkilis behind Ortiz, with Dustin Pedroia even hitting cleanup for some stretches. Even though Youkilis has had a very good and consistent season (the first consistent season of his career), and Pedroia should win the MVP, going away, neither of those guys are Manny. Manny simply scares the shit out of other teams, so having the guy hitting in back of a guy like Ortiz is invaluable. I don't know any manager in the big leagues who ever even condiered pitching around Ortiz to face Manny! As Dave alluded to, I think Ortiz's larger issues this season are the endless injuries he's been dealing with (and still is). We'll see how he adjusts next season, knowing there is no Manny there to protect his spot in the order.

I miss the good old days with Carmichael, Bergy, Jaworski and Montgomery. I can't even watch this team anymore. A quick start before the usual meltdown, they're the Chargers of the East coast.
