Hubby & I are going to a Cubs game soon, what place near Wrigley is a decent place to hang before the game. What about decent hotels too? Thanks!

Cubby Bear is right across the street on Clark & Addison... there's a McDonald's there too... and a Starbucks on up Clark. A huge Cubs gear store... and all the cool little ecletic Boystown shops & sights. People watching is the best... I suggest you just grab a coffee or a beer and do that. :D

Go to this place. Hands down the best bar around there. And I've been to over 200 games and in every single bar. Except the gay ones.

INCORRECT. I think Ferg, his sister, and you went into one several years ago. Didn't the bartender say to you or Ferg, "Are you looking at my ass?"

You are correct. :x It was called "Rainbows" and the guy said to Ferg "You have a nice ass." The expression on Ferg's face was priceless. Ferg never thinks anyone is gay. I knew pretty much immediately we were in pillowbiterville. It was an ok bar. Left after 2 or 3 drinks.

Don't listen to him.
The bars around Wrigley Field are pretty much all sports bars.
The gay bars are further south, barely the same neighborhood.

What's with the "fag bar" shit? That's just rude and offensive.

The immediate vicinity 2 or 3 (in some directions) blocks are ok. I couldn't believe how many gay bars were around there when I went to the Police concert at Wrigley last year. I was appalled.

Besides, male gay bars are fun for us women. They treat you like gold and they aren't hitting on you when they do it. I had a great time in a gay bar once. The guys were a blast.

Appalled by what? Its not 1930. And the Belmont/Halsted up to Diversy/Halsted area is long known as a gay neighborhood. So what's so surprising and for that matter, why does it matter so much. if you're not gay, just don't go in.

True. But maybe Kathy's hubby would object - LOL! - Let's point them to the fun sports places for now.

Wrigleyville/Lakeview is a great area... my sister lived there for years and loved it. No shortage of nightlife and fun.

I was down there the Saturday before Pride, hence why I say people watching. Plenty of outdoor patio space for it, and not yet cold. Of course thats down on towards Belmont. Still a fun neighborhood to chill out in. Much better than Bridgeport. Where you'd get shot.

The first bar I ever went to in Chicago... a bit south of Wrigley, but WELL worth the walk. This was right before the smoking ban and my boyfriend at the time & I used the candles at the bar to light our smokes with. GREAT food too... and usually good parking. :)

We did Bar Louie a few times... I was there the weekend of the 4th of July during the bar crawl. It's a great place, too.

One more... this is one of my all-time favorite bars in the city. They have a lot of great live music (usually Blues!) and stay open until about 4am. Also right next to the Damen blue line stop. Hooray! Nowhere near Wrigley, really... but in case you want to explore Wicker Park and Bucktown, I highly recommend this place. :D

Yep. That was the fave spot other than the dive hole-in-the wall at California & Logan. Nick's was awesome, wasn't it? They had that one Blues trio there that night we were there, didn't they? When he & I had a 20 minute long argument on what type of guitar the dude had. It was *so* a Les Paul.

Just get a hotel. Serious. More fun & I'd rather gnaw my arm off than fight car traffic in the city (especially if the game ends around rush time). I know bars, was never familiar with hotels in the city since I always had room & board taken care of before I lived here. BJG can help ya with that. 8)
