Just got back from Indianapolis as well. I've got class tomorrow morning, so I'm going to try to make this short and sweet right now. I asked the guy who scanned my ticket on the way in what kind of crowd they were expecting tonight, and he said 18,000. And there was at least that many there. It was packed. Cheap Trick played to a half-full pavilion and did a decent job, although I will admit I'm not too familiar with their work. They played from 7:01-7:46.
Heart was up next, and based on what happened in Detroit last night I didn't know what to expect. I asked a guy at the sound board before the show if Heart would be playing tonight, and he laughed and said "we'll find out together. They're supposed to be, though." Well, they performed and they were unbelievable. Hit after hit, had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands. Ann Wilson, what can I say? She was sick last night, but you couldn't see any lingering effects of that tonight. She was great. I had never seen Heart before, but I can definitely say that I will be seeing more of them in the future. Their set was from 8:10-9:08.
Up next was Journey. The crowd started getting pumped as soon as Back In Black started. I was expecting the video board feed of them walking to the stage, but they didn't do that. I was a little disappointed. Anyway, Arnel was finding his voice on Never Walk Away and Only The Young, but by the time Stone In Love rolled around after Neal's solo he was spot-on for the rest of the night. The crowd reacted well to Never Walk Away, but after Ask The Lonely they went into After All These Years and Change For The Better back-to-back. A lot of sitting, but most people at least stayed in the pavilion. I will say this - Change For The Better is a MONSTER live. I was loving it.
We got all the usual favorites, plus La Do Da, Mother, Father (Deen on vocals), Chain Reaction and Feelin' That Way/Anytime. The crowd was really digging Feelin' That Way/Anytime, which was good to see. I thought the setlist was paced a little strangely, with Lights following Separate Ways, which was played in the first third of the show. Overall, though, a stellar performance by Journey. Arnel was a powerhouse tonight, and everyone who said that the YouTube clips and the CD don't do him justice were exactly right. Killer vocalist. A lot of Journey shirts in the crowd, and a ton of people buying the new Revelation shirt. Ross seemed to be having some bass problems near the end, and he stood by his stack of amps while a tech worked on his guitar for most of Wheel In The Sky. I also saw him run for the first time in my 8 Journey shows.

He was working the crowd off to the side of Jonathan's piano, and had to get back to do his backing vocals, so he ran to get to the microphone and made it just in time. Journey came out at 9:33 and wrapped up at 11:14.
I'm heading to Chicago on Friday for my second and final show of the tour. Can't wait. It was a great evening tonight. If I think of more, I'll post it tomorrow.
