Two of those Arabic nations that we get oil from, we're at war with. If neither of those two things have anything to do with the price of oil, I'm Shirly fucking Temple.

How fucking dumb are you?? What 2 countries??? Afghanistan?? We don't get oil from Afghanistan, we do get oil from Iraq but we are not at war with them.

Canada is our biggest oil supplier...The only arab country in the top 5 is Saudi Arablia, followed by Mexico...here is the complete list...

Please don't enter a debate without researching you look like an ignoramous.

BTW...we are forbidden by LAW from buy oil from Iran. Just as an FYI.

C'mon Stu. Rick's not dumb. I think he's just another casualty of the whole "class warfare" debate. Evil rich people looking to screw him over. My mom's kinda the same way. Though she's voting Republican because she loves Palin. :D

And you're right on all accounts, except that it's not a debate, it's a reality. Corporate echelon get richer and the labor class get poorer.

I should have said that we have a military control and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan that was brought by war. Or more importantly, their oil fields and pipelines.

Folks on your side we were going in to steal all the oil which would lower our price. Doesn't make sense does it?
Cheer up. Iraq is said to be within months of resuming control of Baghdad. Harry Reid and the rest of the Dem's were wrong saying, "This war is lost" :D

I got this in an e-mail from a co-worker just yesterday:

"From a source who owns a small oil company in South Arkansas. Gas prices are set to go up nearly $1.00 a gallon tomorrow, so I’d fill up today.

Take it for what it is worth… I’m topping my tank off this evening."

I didn't want to panic, but I did fill up at $3.41, and am glad I did. First station I passed today was selling it for 40 cents higher....

Or Alan Greenspan, or McCain, or Palin, Nader....

Bush and his cabinet had decided to invade Iraq in April of 2001. Citing that it was an unstable influence in the flow of oil, which was an unacceptable risk to the U.S.
Sunday Herald newspaper (UK), "Official: US oil at the heart of Iraq crisis", 6 October 2002

Oil would still be $40 a bbl if not for the war in Iraq. http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/86515/

That's what they told us and we bought it, hook, line & sinker. If they were to tell us that the war in Iraq would drive oil up to $140 a barrel, what kind of support would they have gotten?

If they were to tell us the war in Iraq was to stabilize the oil fields there, how much support would they have gotten?

They can tell us anything they want. And they did. WMD.

Afghanistan has oil pipelines all over the country. We don't get it directly from Afghanistan, but it plays a big roll in the oil industry. It's widely speculated that the war in Afghanistan is oil related.

Sorry was typing fast prior to heading to a meeting.

Now for you assertation...did you even look at the numbers I gave the link to?

Speculation in the market drove up oil prices, with demand from China and India providing help.

Now...lets keep it on track...Bush has nothing to do with the price of oil being so high. PERIOD.

Facts? They tell you things, or you even read things and you believe them, so they're facts. The fact is, you don't have any more hard proof than I do. Neither you nor I know what went on behind closed doors between the President and his cabinet. We just know what they told us. And I don't hate anyone.

Fact Finder wrote:Right now 13 of the 26 Refineries in Texas are on shut down. Those 13 process 2.5 million barrels of oil a day into gasoline. This means that a lot of gas tanker trucks (going to a station near you) are going to be sitting still until this passes and those refineries get back up to capacity which could take 5 to 8 days. This will mean a drop in supply of gasoline going to market. Translated that means higher gas prices for the time being. Some stations in the south are already out of gas because of panic buying. That said, the price of oil has now hit $100. After these refineries get back up and things return to normal I'll bet we will see the lowest prices we've seen in quite awhile. Barring of course another natural disaster in that area.

So in theory, if we cut our driving over the next week, then supply should not wane and price should lower more quickly, no?

Rip, filling up your car is not panicing. Filling up both cars, lawnmower and every bottle and jug you can get your hands on is, especially if you live 1500 hundred miles from Ike. The stories of $5 gas in Fla and Ky make no economic sense other than being driven by panic buying and hoarding from locals who have been spooked by the media today.

CALM DOWN PEOPLE AND QUIT DRIVING THIS WEEKEND.

Oh, I probably wasn't clear. I didn't see his e-mail until this morning, and was just glad I'd filled up last night. By not panic, I meant I didn't mass forward it around or give it too much thought...

Honestly, Stu....I've heard this argument from one too many people. About all sorts of things. While this may be true, I still don't understand the whole supply and demand thing.

Let me try to explain it the way I see it: No matter how much oil is available the oil companies still want to make the same amount of money?

If They want to make their 2000 per cent profit, they need to price 10,000 barrels the same as 3,000?

If only 3,000 barrels are available - they need to raise the price to get the same amount of profit as if there were 10,000 barrels(which would be at a lower amount per barrel)?

I don't really get it. If there are only 3,000 barrels, tough shit for the oil company....

Bush deregulated everything so severely that strictures formerly in place to PREVENT speculators from artificially driving up gas prices (i.e. under President William Satan Clinton) are no longer in place. Hence, higher gas prices; hence, the Bush Administration is 100% COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE.
