Proof please? I grew up in the oil industry so I know it inside and out. I have friends from the refinery to board room. I also have friends who are working on Wall Street (not in energy but they know how the game is played) and they are amazed that it has lasted this long.

Congress did not deregulate anything. In fact after the Enron debacle Congress tightened up a TON of rules to prevent speculating and the general accounting tricks used to hide it.

Laws and regulations have been on the books for years regulating commodity trading, speculating in the US markets. Most of the speculation is being done in London markets which we have no control over.

Since Bush has been in office, guess which three companies have been the top three speculators (and profiteers in) oil futures - a game that has been made much more lucrative by Bush's insistence on refilling the SPR under current conditions?

"The vast majority of people say that speculation is driving up the price," said David Castelveter, spokesman for the Air Transport Association and the Stop Oil Speculation Now Coalition. "Many that don't want to believe it is speculation are profiting from the lack of transparency in the marketplace.

This might stir some major shit up, but when I saw it, a lot of bullshit made sense.

This guy is THE most long-winded guy in the world, and takes the entire length of this 75 minute-long video to spill the gist of what he's going on about, but it is well worth it.

I cannot recommend this enough. And I've tried to find anyone discrediting anything he says here, and have found nothing official anywhere.

Get a cup of coffee and watch.

EDIT: For those of you without the patience, or for the crib notes of it: Two Words. World Bank.

Needless to say, we are screwed. Thank you SO MUCH Henry Kissinger....grrr. LOL.. and I just saw a picture of Sarah Palin shaking Henry's hand the other day in I think newsweek. Shudder. (watch the video before you pummel me, ok?)

I'll bet Kissinger was just doing what he was told.

I just bought gas and I have no clue what I paid for it... I've quit noticing what it costs. I need fuel, erego I buy it. Complaining hasn't lowered prices in the five (yes, five) years we've all been bitching as it rose. Probably ain't gonna start working now. Meh. More important things to worry about. :)

Piece of crap? No, sorry. It was the least they could do (although it fell short). Did anyone actually vote against it?

That's why you can't deregulate everything. That's the REAL Bush Doctrine. IT DOES NOT FUCKING WORK.
