OT-Rick Wright of Pink Floyd dies

Postby Angiekay » Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:09 am

Holy crap!!

LONDON – A Pink Floyd spokesman says founding member Richard Wright has died. He was 65.

Wright died Monday after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. His family did not want to give more details about his death. The spokesman is Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist.

Richard Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at college and joined their early band Sigma 6.

Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd and Wright wrote and sang some of the band's key songs. He wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" from Pink Floyd's 1973 "The Dark Side Of The Moon."

He left the group in the early 1980s to form his own band but rejoined Pink Floyd for their 1987 album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."

A real shock.... Always looked youthful and well when he appeared live...

Also from interviews etc he seemed a really decent chap...

Really Missed

Being in a Floyd tribute at this time this hits a little harder than it might otherwise. Being in the middle of working up the show we were talking about how the chord changes in Great Gig in the sky has the most beautiful chord changes and are truly just amazing. As most of you probably know the song has no lyrics and is sung with ohhs and ahhs and screams etc. They told the singer (Clarre Torre) to think that she was dying and going to heaven.. Listen to that song today and with that in mind. It really sounds like that.....

I've always had a dream to be in a Pink Floyd tribute band. I saw Roger Waters in 2007 in Vegas, and it was unbelievable. Quite easily the best concert I've ever seen in my life. We caught The Police the night before. I didn't think Waters could top that - but he did!

I'm mainly a drummer, but I play guitar too. I can't seem to stop using the "Another Brick In The Wall" preset in my new Line 6 amp.

Too many fuckin greats leavin us these days

Brad Delp, Dan Fogelberg, Richard... such bullshit. None of these guys are anywhere near old enough to be dying.
