Do you think they would have been better with JSS?

No chance of that now but, yes. I've liked what I've heard of Jeff's Queen covers.

After all is said and done, and after his performance at the Queen convention, I just don't get it.

Paul Rodgers does a damn good job, but Jeff was by far the better option, in my opinion.

I think they decided on a fellow countryman.

I remember the backlash when Journey fans suggested the same. Although we were dead wrong on that.

Boy, I still would like to have heard what Journey would've sounded like with JSS at the helm. I think they would've made some kick-ass music. Can't fault them going with Arnel, though.

We've given it a few spins and I find it reminisant of Bad Company's "Joe Fabulous"

I have been waiting for this album for a couple of years now (since they announced they were making it) and bought it the day it came out. I am very disappointed with it though. Paul Rodgers is a monster singer but has no clue about melody. The songs sound so uninspired and mediocre. Compare this to Freddie's last album with them, 'Innuendo', and it doesnt stand up next to it. Its Ok but this album needed to be amazing to let Queen fans accept Paul Rodgers.
Queen albums used to have Great songs, one or two OK songs and One or Two shite songs. But this is all in the middle for me. Such a shame because Queen are my all time favourite band. I understand this isn't Queen, Its Queen with Paul Rodgers, but it doesnt sit right with me. I was 100% for Paul singing with Queen before this album. i bought tickets to go and see them, I will be going, but not looking forward to hearing the new material.
You never knwo, It might grow on me. Olly.

Horrible record.

Virtually no classic Queen sound - no Brian May guitar, no big bombastic songs and no big harmony vocals....

Horrible production - too raw for the time spent on it and worst of all - completely uninspired shitty songs.

Is the rest of the album like this track?

If so, I won't be buying it.

Talented guys, all of them - but I don't like this offering.

Pretty much. As Brian May once said "you have to own your own poo"!

To borrow a quote from the band he was referring to "who's crying now?"...

Wow! I was expecting something better from Queen and Paul. Of course, I like more modernistic rock albums now (such as stuff like 3 Doors Down) so I'd probably like the album...lol! But, I'm sure coming from a melodic rock point of view, this album may not be hitting on much.

Thanks. I'll give it a miss then.

Shame. I love all these guys. [Roger Taylor was my first crush. ]

That guitar sounds out of tune...maybe it's just the crappy format compression.

Paul Rodgers was the best and only choice for them and they kick ass live. Having said that, I was disappointed with this record. It's like they forgot about the concept of hooks which surprises me given that Brian's solo albums are full of them.

I did read on another forum that Brian has apparently stated his wish to have been more involved in the making of the album, but I can't find a direct quote.

I didn't expect this album to sound like Queen as everyone knew it, however, I expected hooky, memorable songs.

There are a couple on there that I can almost get into, though, like "Some Things That Glitter".

"Say It's Not True" - probably the most Queen sounding song on the record.

Maybe Queen + Paul Rodgers Should Be Called Bad Company + Brian + Roger
by Paul Cashmere - September 18 2008

The new Queen + Paul Rodgers album has finally arrived and it is the first new album from Queen since Made In Heaven 13 years ago. But is it really Queen?

If you take away the Queen name ‘The Cosmos Rocks’ is a great album but it sounds more like a Paul Rodgers record than a Queen record.

I love Bad Company, I love Free, I loved Paul’s solo works and I love Queen but Rodgers has such a distinctive voice that this sounds like it should a Paul Rodgers album featuring May and Taylor.

Don’t think of it as Queen – Mercury + Rodgers either. The other missing component is Queen bass player John Deacon who bowed out of any reunions but fully supports what Brian May and Roger Taylor are doing.

Deacon had such as signature bass sound. Think of ‘Under Pressure’. It was his song.

This will be a hard one for the true fans to get their head around.

Had they gone to neutral ground and called it by another name other than Queen, we would be hailing it as one of the great rock releases on 2008.

Unfortunately, it is so far removed from what Queen sounded like and not all that far removed from what the various Rogers albums sounded like that it is difficult to accept ‘The Cosmos Rock’ as a follow-up to the Mercury legacy.

Without a doubt Queen is a big brand. Rogers as a solo artist is a big talent. It is like they have taken his talent and branded it with their name.

Calling this Queen is putting the right head on the wrong body.

While The Cosmos Rocks doesn’t take us to any new ground with Queen, is a mighty fine album.

It will be nice to see Queen + Paul Rodgers on the road. When Paul sings the old songs, he fits into Queen. When Queen play the new songs, they become Paul.

"A great album"? "One of the best rock releases of 2008" ? Whilst it does sound like a Paul Rodgers' release these comments are way off base. This album is pure cheese content wise.
