Great reviews, guys. Glad you had so much fun. SJ, that was awesome of you to hook him up with those seats. Makes me wish I had a couple of more shows to go to, but my two for the tour are over. Maybe they'll hit the midwest on this winter tour that Arnel was talking about. One can only hope.

Thanks for the reviews. I'm looking forward to seeing some video. You mentioned that you guys got Faith In The Heartland. Does anyone remember the last time Journey mixed up the set list from night to night so much? On the Def Leppard tour it was the exact same setlist night in and night out, same for the Generations Tour. But in Indianapolis on the Revelation Tour, for example, I saw Mother, Father and Chain Reaction, and two nights later in Chicago those two were out and Keep On Runnin' and Be Good To Yourself. And Feeling That Way/Anytime and La Do Da had only recently been added in. It so nice not to know exactly what to expect every night. 8)

Here's to a great finish to the tour, a restful break away, and then a stop or two in the Chicago area or downstate Illinois in November/December.

CT-sounded good from the beer garden....got to meet Frank Martinez and a couple of his local friends....got to talking about hockey, and had a couple beers....before you know it, their set is over. No love lost here(sorry CT fans, I just don't get their music.)

Heart-Great sound....but again, not really my thing. It was *incredible* to hear their version of The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me"......fucking stellar.

Journey-. I am still speechless. Deen fucking OWNS Keep On Runnin'! Just owns. This needs to become a permanent part of their setlist, no bullshit. Could be the highlight of the night. Arnel realy, truly is the real deal. Not just PR rhetoric bullshit from the Neal/NOMOTA camp. He is 100% it. He makes Espee look like a joke. I mean that in no disrespect, he just took those songs, new and old, and really did make them his own. Anyone who has seen the 2001 DVD.....remember the crowd reaction to Augeri's first few bars in "Separate Ways?" Yeah......except it was all night long for Arnel. He had all of us eating out of the palm of his hand. I was personally so mezmorized I didn't even stand up.....just sat there and soaked it all in. He did struggle a few times with his voice, and the wife and I both kinda gave eachother a look and rolled our eyes.....I hope they don't burn him out. Brywool, you are a God. Even if you do look like Dana Carvey........Could it be...hmmmm.....I dunno......SATAN?! You are awesome. I can explain why the encore was so shitty......LTS for almost 20 goddamned minutes. A superlong Look Into The Future-era bluesy intro and then the song itself. Very nice, but seriously. A one-song encore, what the fuck?! Heart did 2 at least, and I think maybe a third......why not Wildest Dream (since it was so late already) or something a little more peppy? Anyways, that's a little to feed on for now......I will get up a detailed review and pics/vids later.....gotta get ready to drink and watch some hockey. Have fun MR.

Wow, I heard NO problems with Arnel's voice and I was in front of him the entire night AND I was listening for that kind of stuff. That's why I was so blown away. Interesting how two peeps can see the same show and then come away with different impressions. The LTS thing was okay. The harmonica thing was a bit long, but I didn't think it was a problem. It just seemed like the crowd was more into Heart from where I was. That could be because Ann and Nancy are hometown heros. I LOVED Heart, but I thought Journey owned the night.

I felt the same thing in Indianapolis and Chicago. The crowd was more pumped throughout the entire Heart set, but the highs of the Journey set were more well-received than anything Heart did. I'm sure that has to do with the fact that Heart played only hits in their 60 minutes, and Journey expanded a little bit, as they should, as the headliner. Everyone knew every song Heart did, but the staples like OA, Faithfully, SW, DSB, etc. absolutely brought the house down. Yes, there were lulls in Journey's set, which is probably why people say that Heart stole the show.

Oh, I almost forgot-

I DO have one complaint about the Journey show....

I believe that it was before the encore (they only did 1! huh??) they had "Journey" up on the screen in huge red letters. However, the lower case 'r' in 'Journey' was a silhouette of a pistol. What, is Journey some rap band now? I really thought it was in poor taste as Journey's kind of a 'feel good band' and to have a gun in their logo just was bad judgment and to me, it was kind of embarrassing. Looked like they were trying to be hip. Not sure why guns are hip, but they are I guess. Anyway, I didn't appreciate it.

Small gripe, yeah...

This review was awesome...with the exception of the Espee comment. What exactly are you basing that comment on....a particular Espee fronted tour,
Espee's recordings of the songs in general or do you just prefer AP to SP? Just wondering what AP could have possibly done on that stage to make SP look like a joke? :? Thanks

Sleepless and cursing in (Auburn) Seattle

Postby BeautifulJbaby » Mon Sep 22, 2008 1:22 am

A sea of humanity swaying in trance. Flickering lights... and the new voice of Journey. These combined elements of nature made that Friday night perfect. My words to describe this unbelievable concert.

WOW!!! My bud and I both had a blast last Friday's concert in Auburn, Washington. I couldn't be happier as I listened to Heart. They were friggin amazing. Nancy can shred and she looked hot. She totally rocked while Ann can wail like a banshee. I enjoyed her Alone. It was sooooooo passionate that I was totally in awe. OMG! I love everything they sung. Amazing band.

Sorry I have nothing to say much about Cheap trick but they're fun. I like The Flame. That's all.

Journey. OMFG!!! They totally rocked the place. The amphitheater was packed and shakened. My bud who is not even a Journey fan said about Arnel: "Wow, the little fucker can sing!!!". So I said to him, "That's my boy!!!". He was totally mesmerized by Arnel's performance specially in SW, DSB, OA, and Faithfully. Arnel just blew off the roof of the amphitheater. He owned all the songs and ran away with it, as if saying they're mine now. Either you take it or leave it or just fuckin evaporate! I am pretty sure the naysayers in the audience were left defeated and crouched under their seats while Arnel wailed and knocked their asses off.

Thanks, Arnel for being soooo humble and making it easy for us to dream, too. Your dream was ours, too, and for that I will never stop believin'. Ever.

Deen, OMG!!! I was totally in awe of this gentleman, of his talent, as a drummer and as a singer. I love you, Deen. That's all I can say.

Neal, you shredded that guitar like there's no tomorrow. I could just imagine what you can do with those fingers of yours. LOL! Pure talent.

Ross, loved your playful antics.

Jon, if you could just see how I looked while you pounded the piano on your intro to OA. My jaw just droppped and you can see the Wall of China from my mouth. You were wonderful!

We didn't finish the set as we had to leave after Faithfully. Yes. We. had. to. leave. early. Why? Fuckin Traffic. That's why! They were doing Faith in the Heartland as we were walking towards the parking lot. I took the shuttle from Vancouver to Bellingham and met my bud from there. We then drove all the way to Auburn. I can't curse anymore about the traffic as I am pretty sure my bud had heard every cuss word ever coined foaming from my filthy mouth. That's why we had to leave after Faithfully. I was, of course, cursing and kicking myself in the head because I paid a lot of money to see the show but the choice of concert site was just fuckin awful. Why there??? Please no more White River next time. That place is known to drive people nuts! It took us almost 6 hours to get there. We had to drive in the dark back road and carefully eyeing for some hillbillies with chainsaws. It's like in the Twilight Zone. Unfuckinbelievable!!! We must have missed half of Cheap trick's set but that's ok. I can't believe I miss six fantastic songs just to escape the traffic to go home. Read the reviews from the White River website and you'll be amazed by the horror stories about getting out from there. Funny but by the time we were turning towards the road Arnel was doing Escape.

That's my boy!

As you'd expect, I have to agree. I was absolutely blown away by the stuff he was doing. It's like the guy had never sung these songs before and wanted to just PROVE his worth. He totally did. No disrespect to Steve Perry as he helped write all the songs and his vocal runs go through all of them. I know I'm hard on Steve, but the fact is, that guy is the model to judge all singers by. To me, his best years were Pre- Frontiers and that's my measuring stick. After Frontiers, I thought he lost a lot and it got worse from there. Sorry, but that's how I feel. The guy just couldn't do notes he once could and to me, that's important. We're not talking soul, we're talking notes.

But the FACT is, Arnel made these songs his own and just kicked my ass doing it. Hey, I know you all think I'm "Mr. Arnel Cheerleader" (and NO I don't have any photos of me dressed as a cheerleader... hmm, maybe THIS Halloween!) but I'm also "Mr. if the vocal ain't up to scratch, I'll tell ya in spades" and I was nearly a lone wolf a year and a half ago with that while people were telling me I was nuts (not talking Arnel here folks).

The guy absolutely astounded me and then he'd come back and do more.

Also, Deen, Jesus, those notes in "Keep On Running" are very difficult to do AND drum at the same time. Many drummers that can sing, can't keep the tempo up. Not Deen. Holy crap. I was glad to hear him do Keep On Runnin instead of Mother Father, which I'd already heard.

Unless you go see it yourself, you won't understand I guess. The guy IS the shit and I'm so thankful that he saved this friggin' band.

I can HONESTLY say I have NEVER heard a more heartfelt, gut wrenching song than the version of Faithfully Arnel did in Seattle Friday night! I'm just so damn happy for Arnel and the guys! They just get better and better!!
