He's got zipper problems, cut him some slack.

Neal's guitar is so beautiful on this song but Arnel vocals did nothing for me. I guess the singer either reaches you or doesn't and Arnel just doesn't reach me. Singing the words, singing the notes, nice voice but he does not connect with me on any level. Glad that he is making a connection with others, though.
(see you next week & hugs to Wyatt-man)
really looking forward to seeing you!!! Wyatt sends you hugs and very wet kisses, lol.

Arnel's live version can be compared to the original studio version. JMHO.
Not for me. He is not striking out on his own, He has the words and music and the performance of the original to show him the way and he is only following a pattern already set. It shows in the way he sings the song. It's like he is reciting.
Journey is bringing back wonderful memories from their fans' younger days when they play these songs. What better way of doing that by having a vocalist who can sing it as close as possible to the original.
However, if a person's memories of these songs is watching Perry and having moistness in between the thighs or heaven forbid a tightening of the trousersthen it's no longer about the music but more about the personality. While I see something wrong with that, I still respect it as that is a personal preference. However, people should give credit when it is due. Arnel sang this song (and most of Journey's song for that matter) beautifully. The least we can do is give him kudos. The man deserves it.

That's certainly no fault of Arnel's, but there really isn't enough evidence (due to shitty quality) to say whether the performance is good, bad, or ugly! I don't doubt that Arnel can sing and would love to see him sing this song live. That said, this isn't close to Perry's version of this song...Not remotely close!

Let's not forget that AP is a big fan of SP and what he might be doing is paying tribute to SP? just saying...Besides, however he does this song, he can't win both camps, or all camps...you see? I'm diggin' this one.

I agree... Arnel is a HUGE Steve Perry fan... and all Arnel is doing is paying tribute to Perry by emulating his voice in a very respectable way. Why do people have to pit Arnel against Perry? Why do people have to say "Arnel is better than Perry"? That is why Arnel cannot win both camps. The moment the Perry defenders warmup to him, the Arnel worshipers start boasting that Arnel is better than Perry. How do they expect to receive any respect from Perry fans by spouting off that kind of stuff? If Arnel heard his fans saying this about him, he would tell them to shut their blaspheming mouths. Arnel is only trying to keep the Perry legacy alive - he's not trying to erase it and replace it with his own.

With Perry, it has always been about the music and how it's presented. Suggesting that his fans idolize him for his personality or looks instead of his music, just shows that you have no idea of what it is that made Journey the band that it was, I mean is.

I agree with what you said dude. While I do not agree with what they are doing, I do understand where these guys are coming from. Prior to all of these, Arnel had been and is still being unfairly compared to Perry. There were also ridiculous stuff that was said about Arnel that were hurtful to his fans even to his countrymen. What you are seeing from *some of* Arnel's fans are just reactions from what they *perceive* to be offensive comments towards Arnel.
Perhaps they are asking why it is ok when it's Arnel being unfairly compared to Perry and not the other way around? If the likes of Jimmmyttt on youtube can diss it, surely they should be able to take it?

You've just described the predicament every Journey replacement singer faces.
Even Jeff wasn't exempt....the more the tour went on, the more those Cooke inflections began creeping up.
Arnel does an outstanding job here.
As much as I prefer to hear Neal rock, Arnel's musical terra firma is slow ballads.
