Wow, so easy to substitute "Rush Limbaugh" in this sentence for "Howard Stern".
Still, Howard did a very funny interview with McCartney once. It was one of the few Paul interviews where there were actually different questions being asked than the typical interviewer.
Like Perry's anybody to be calling anyone else "Big Bird". "Profiles in Rock!"

At the time perry(or anyone else for that matter) even knew who Howard Stern was. He was a newcomer and an unknown. I'm sure perry is a nice enough guy these days maybe, of course according to Schon he still has issues but there have been countless stories from the 80's that suggests he was a major jerk, even stories from the band themselves. Now none of this diminishes the fact that he is/was/always will be the man and probably the greatest voice of our generation and I would be the first to purchase a Perry concert ticket-whether with Journey or by himself. I just found it interesting that Howard went on about a 10-15 minute talk about Journey. And by the way-he had nothing but good things to say about Arnel and his talent. He joked about Arnel wanting to go home and the band not letting him....

I still say Howard is low class individual. I know some just love him. And from what I read, how dumb to hold a grudge 30 years later over a comment on his appearance? He got that whole idea from one meeting. You cannot know all there is to know about an individual in one meeting. I am not saying Steve is a saint. But sometimes people can be real jerks to celebrities, and they are supposed to smile and just take it. Maybe he met him on a bad day, who knows? But Howard Stern is far from the most pristine and personable personalities. He lacks class, and I will not rely on his take on anything. If you like him, that is your perogitive, but I find him to be repulsive.

First impressions stick with all of us. If I meet someone, and they are a jerk to me, I'm gonna remember that. I'm not saying HS is the greatest person in the world, but he was just relaying his experiences with SP. He didn't call his character in question, or say anything about what he would be like today. He said the guy was a jerk to him in 1980. Maybe he was. That doesn't make Perry a horrible person now, just like it doesn't make Stern a horrible individual for remembering that meeting.

Well, I don't subscribe to his show so I don't have to listen to him anyway. But it does make a difference him trashing him on his show 30 years down the line. People are sheep. If Howard Stern hates Steve and says so, others will take his word for gospel and talk crap on Steve as well. Why hold such a grudge? Look, like I said, some of you guys might just love Howard Stern. I'm not a Howard fan either. I just actually listened to the statements so I know what he said and how he said it before I passed judgement. That's all.

Journey was not on his show... this incident took place at a live show. And give me a break, who the hell was Perry of all people to walk around calling anyone Big Bird... Look, I love the guy but let's be real. Plus, that was just rude.
Journey was huge then, and he probably had a big head, and ripped on some (then) unknown DJ just because he COULD. According to the clip I have, the exact quote was that Stern was really put off by him because he was "makin' out with chicks and bossing people around" and was basically a jerk. My question is... yeah? So? Its nothing new. I've heard worse rock star stories. Doesn't make it ok to treat people like shit but... we're also talking 30 years ago, so who the hell cares.

There were those who dismissed him as arrogant and obnoxious; he was the best singer there was due to his perfectionism and the solitary power of his voice. Stern is still on the throne and shouting out to the audience of his show. He can say whatever he wants and people still chatter and harp on the old news; as if it's something new they had never heard such before. Good news on a slow day!

I have no idea what he's like these days. And I have no idea who is at fault for what... Schon & Company don't take shit ONLY because of the split with Perry though. Yes, maybe he was difficult to work with - I wasn't there, but whatever... but with Perry out of the equation, two other guys got fucked too, so there's gotta be some other contributing factors here.![]()
By the way, what does it matter if Steve is any different these days? If he was the nicest guy ever or the biggest fuck ever... I guess what I'm not getting is the point of trying to produce evidence of Perry being a dick.

I guess the point of anyone with the motive you speak of, is because they don't like him and want a thread to trash him. I don't know the motive, maybe they heard it and thought it newsworthy. I just know I thought it juvinile of him to bring it up on his show after all this time. It makes no sense to me either.

Its not juvenile... it's just radio talk... they talk about stuff... this time they happened to be talking about Steve. The first timer I heard this, Robin was reading the news and it happened to be Jan. 22, so there was a mention of his birthday and Robin brought it up... at the mention of his name, Stern told the story... he will often do that, a person's name will come up, he's reminded of something about that person, and he talks about them (be it good or bad). In fact, that's pretty much par for the course on any radio talk show.
I laughed at it when I heard it and forgot about it after. Its so funny to me, all the ripping of Stern just because he said something bad about Perry. I'm a HUGE fan of BOTH of them, and even I'm not upset about it.

No, it was all about the comment. The basic story is that Stern was new to the Detroit station at the time and he was supposed to get on stage to introduce the band. Beforehand, Journey comes in, Perry said that, embarressed Stern in front of the other radio guys, and so on. So you can see where he's left with a bad impression of Steve. He was the new guy and some big rock star was fucking with him. And that's why he doesn't like Perry. Who even knows if he was really making fun or just goofing with the guy but it doesn't matter... that's not how Stern took it. First impressions will kill you every time.
You're right about the hot blonde though. Beth O is a knockout. Stern hit the jackpot.

On a side note, I remember when Paul MCartney was supposed to be interviewed by Howard Stern on Clear Channel. It was advertised the day before. I really rarely listened to Howard Stern unless there was a good interview on and I was stuck in traffic. But I made a note to tune in to that channel for the Paul McCartney interview. Best interview I've ever heard from anyone in the Beatles. Howard was respectful, but asked great questions. And Paul was so forthcoming about everything with the Beatles. He didn't shy away from any question. It was a fascinating interview.
