That's a compliment to Perry since it's from Stern...

Guess it shows I can't stand Stern and his yes-men crew that I heard a couple of times. Listening or seeing Stern should be classified as punishment IMO.

Perry may be an asshole but coming from one of the biggest fucks on the planet, it doesn't carry any weight with me. Howard Stern is a complete fuckwit.

Here's my $.02:

You won't find many, if any, loons that think SP can do no wrong. The "saint" label is reserved by the wigglers for their guy. That said, we all know HS has a wide range of listeners who tune in to his show. With people not knowing the man, this "dick" or "jerk" label is now forever stuck in their minds, or in their perception of SP — which is quite unfair. And, as reported here before, Stern has previously made this assertion of SP in his shows. But, this time, there's more: "he is such an asshole the rest of the band refused to work with him" (Quoting Barb's recapitulation). WTF? That's flat-out falsehood!

No doubt SP was hard to get along with. He, himself, said he "was no picnic in the park." Is that really unusual, though, for hard-driven creative artists to be like that — whether in music, movies, or other arenas? A few months ago, there was a splash about Chris Martin stomping off in the middle of an interview, leaving bandmates and the interviewer staring at each other. LeadSingerDisease (LSD).

Personally, I can't stand HS and his shtick. Used to come across his show flipping through late night cable TV. The replusive (demeaning) stuff he had ordinary people do on his shows was just crazy. 15 minutes of watching and I want to turn the TV off and go wash myself. Never heard him on radio .... would have like to hear those PaulM interviews .... love Paul.

I do not believe Steve can do no wrong, in fact I truely believe he was an ass at times, maybe a lot of the time. We ALL can be asses when we want to be. He's no different.

Howard who???????

If I can't get the guy on my local radio station. I don't listen to him. I may have seen pictures of the man & if it's who I think it is I think Big Bird is better looking myself. But then I like yellow.

As for Steve Perry. Yea I like the guy. Love his sing and songwriting. Was he hard to live with. Yea. Aren't we all at times?? I know I am. That's why I'm still single.

Then I guess I'm a criminal. To put this in a way relatable here, I feel the same way about people who rip on Stern the way we all feel about people when they have torn into Augeri/JSS/Arnel/next guy.... because I know most people who claim to hate Stern say that because of what they've heard *about* him, or because they heard 2 minutes of it once and turned it off. Just like that ever so open-minded brand of loon who refuses to listen to it if its not Perry without giving it a chance. That's what it reminds me of. I was like that once a long time ago for a very short time til I realized how stupid I sounded.

I don't love everything that happens on the show, but I've listened to it long enough (since I was 19) to know that there's a lot more to it than people think and there's a lot of misinformation in peoples minds about him and his show.

I listened long enough to know that he is just another Jerry Springer, cashing in on toilet humor. I thought he might be a witty guy, but after listening to him determined its just the same stuff day in and day out. I prefer Howie Carr by a long shot. But if people want to spend their time and advertising dollars supporting him, that is their choice. These are probably the same assholes that bought too much house and are now screwing the rest of us by not paying their goddamn mortages. And of course, its someone elses fault...

There's many stories of Perry in those days coming across like a jerk. There's no denying it. Perry could sing and Stern has gift of gab. Perry came off like a jerk to him so that's all he remembers.

Stern's one of the few talk dj's I can stand to listen to. Of course I don't agree with everything but he's funny sometimes. Definitely low brow humor.

Stern is very opinionated & honest. He will always be one of the greatest out there because he won't just be the radio station, media, & recording industry's puppet. Oh I haaaaaaaate those fake DJ's talking stuff up like they listen to it on the ride to and from work, like it's the most amazing thing they've ever heard, whether they've actually heard it or not. They sound like robots!!! Summer Glau's Terminator on SCC is waaaay more human than a lot of these people!!!

Well, RockitRide, my brother listens to Howard Stern on his way to work, and my brother is not an "asshole," and he "owns" his home outright. He's a family man and a hard-working blue-collar man who owns a plastering business. He is one of the best people I know in this world. Everything he does is for his family and kids. I don't think you should make such hateful statements about the kind of people that listen. Say the hateful things about Howard Stern, but you shouldn't make such mean-spirited comments regarding people that choose to listen to a radio show. Peace.

Stern may be offensive but he's a straight shooter. He calls out Dr. Phil as being bogus. 00:35 in this clip.

Strange thing is I don't think Howard Stern is that ugly...what I don't like is his humor and show.

SP has owned up to developing an "attitude" at one time. Also, he's probably been teased a lot about his looks (Beaky Peartree and being short, etc.)

I kinda doubt the "Big Bird comment" was a true insult 'cause HS is tall, lanky, and has a head of hair. If someone called me a female "Harry Potter" I wouldn't be offended 'cause that's kinda what I look like.

It wasn't just that. It was that he came in and immediately goofed on HS and wouldn't let up. HS was new to the staion and was there with no crew, nothing... and couldn't say anything back because Journey was a huge band, HS was a nobody and would have probably been fired for it. Its a case of a big star throwing his shit around. Happens all the time. Doesn't make it ok but we little folk deserve respect too. We're not talking abou Howard Stern *now*. We're talking about 1980, an unknown guy, new to a small station, taking shit about his looks from some big star for no other reason than the dude could get away with it. Does anyone deserve that?

Tell me any one of you wouldn't be trashing him the same way if he came in and started calling you names. And if that's the only experience you have and that's the impression you're left with, of course you'd say "that guy is an arrogant fuck." Neal was a dick to my sister and she never forgot that. It was 20 years ago so does it matter? No. But you still don't forget it when a celeb is a dick to you, regardless of how they are in other cases or many years later.

And by the way... Stern said a lot of stuff about Arnel too, and I don't see anyone jumping on any of that. I barely saw that shit mentioned at all.

I also see a some of the same people who jump all over Perry now jumping on Stern for saying bad shit about Perry.

Sorry, walkslikealady... I was just commenting on what you said about it not being an insult... the rest of that wasn't aimed at you, just aimed in general. 8)

I'm surprised there's any surprise that Perry was a jerk at times.

Andrew: What do you think Steve Perry's problem with Ross and Steve was? I mean they were hardly the decision makers of the band.

Herbie Herbert: No, because he wanted to divide and conquer.

As for Stern, this is what he does. He had a bad experience with SP and now can repeatedly tell it. As BJG basically outlined, "Be careful who you step on on your way up, they will be there on your way down."

The band can barely say a good thing about him. "HWMNBN." But hey, he had a great voice. :)

Oh here that goes again. REALLY time to give that a rest. He's under no obligation. I'm really beginning to resent him for not singing just because it would finally shut everyone up with that shit.

whoa now....I am a Steve Perry fan and his talent blows me away, I wanna make sure thats on record. I am a little bitter that he doesnt ever give the fans a "bone" though. Im also bitter about the whole breakup of Journey and how it seems he closed the door on it a long time ago without any consideration about how things change as we get older. I also thought his blow-off on performing one tune at the HWOF was an asshole move. I think the fans who gave them the attention, sales, etc that put that star out there deserved at least that. I never ripped Perry solo stuff. I actually love most of it. When Im driving home at night alone I love to slide missing You, you better wait, hell the whole GHs cd. As I said if the man performed tonight I'd be the first in line. If he is retired then why the studio recording with maybe a new cd coming? Why the backing vocals on other groups CDs? Why the spotlight at baseball teams celebrations? Because he is not retired as he says, hes still very much an entertainer. Fuck I swore I wouldnt get into this debate again....

Well, that was a fail... but that's ok - the Perry debates are as passionate and heated as [loon moment] Steve's voice on all those records we love. [/loon moment] Sometimes you just get sucked in.

But what do you mean "if he's retired"? When and where did Steve himself EVER say that or allude to it or deny it? I don't recall that ever coming out of him... I also don't recall a promise of anything new... that aside... it's all the intense bitterness I was never able to understand. I'll will concede to your point on the Walk of Fame show. That kind of doesn't make sense to me either, only because of the setting and the situation at the time, but... the rest of it... things happen in bands and that's just the way it is. Whatever he's got going on, it doesn't matter to or have an effect on US. Its his life, and he'll sing if he wants to, and if not, then... well... that's his perogative.

I've seen plenty of posts talking about being mad at him over not releasing anything or performing, people who are angry, hostile, depressed, let down, personally offended... it makes no sense to me. And I don't mean to aim this at you Scarab... I understand your point.. but in general, there's so much hostility and blame thrown at the guy, and its just ridiculous to me.

I mean, I'm a fan, DO NOT get me wrong. Maybe I'm the odd one out because I don't get my knickers in a twist every day that he doesn't do something? And because I don't throw 100% blame at him for "ruining" Journey? Fine then I'm the odd one out. Don't care. I just don't see any reason to get mad at someone I don't know just because he isn't doing something I want him to do. Who the hell am I? Random fan. Would I love to see him on stage? Meet him? Oh god yes times 20. Can *I* do jack shit about it? Nope. He'll do what he's gonna do and that's it.

*off soapbox* Ok I feel better.

At least Stern is still entertaining his fans....

Good point!!! And what is SP doing for his fans these days???

Oh here that goes again. REALLY time to give that a rest. He's under no obligation. I'm really beginning to resent him for not singing just because it would finally shut everyone up with that shit.

Thank god. I like ya, Scarab, and I didn't want to have to come down to your swamp and beat you up. I'm afraid of alligators.
