AOTW: Iced Earth - Crucible of Man

Nice to hear Barlow again, but this one is middle of the road stuff for the most part. I do reall enjoy Divide Devour though.

Great record.

Black Bonzo - S/T (Lady Of The Light). Like stepping into a time machine, as they sound like an ode to Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, King Crimson and Pink Floyd.

Haven't posted an AOTW in awhile. (mostly because I haven't had the money to buy new cds, and haven't been listening to much music of any kind to tell the truth.) But I finally broke down the other day and found one worth listening to: In This Moment 'The Dream'

If you asked me last year about In This Moment, I would've told you they were crap. But I guess my complaints about the female screams were heard, and suddenly Maria Brink is singing...harmonies!??? wtf? Where was that on the previous album?

Yes there are a couple screamer tracks, but still in line for 'most improved band.'

David Gilmour - 'Live at Gdansk' especially the DVD.

AOTW: The Levellers - Letters From the Underground

A nice return to form for these guys. The last two cds were crap, but this new one is more reminiscent of Zeitgeist and Levelling the Land

AOTW: Portal - Blood Red Tape

Indie band out of Canada. So very good! I put them as a mix of Tool, Porcupine Tree and Riverside. You know, the introspective lyrics and (sometimes long) progressive riffing. I've got all three of their cds and all are great.

Anathema-Hindsight

Not a huge fan of theirs but this is a great mellow album....would be good for those who like Opeth's 'Damnation' album.

I'm still stuck on In This Moment "The Dream."

After repeated listens I'm just not a fan of Maria Brink, screaming or clean vocal. Something in the pitch in her voice that gets on my nerves. Yet I still listen because the musicianship is superb. 'Forever' has one of the hookiest choruses I've heard in a female rock band and could very well be my song of the year.

*writes down Anathema*

Coincidentally I've played a lot of Opeth records this week. Going with The Roundhouse Tapes since that has a bit of everything; special mention for Under The Weeping Moon and Blackwater Park.

I really liked their stuff from Judgement, Alternative 4 and A Fine Day To Exit; especially when they build to the guitar outros

AOTW: Tomorrow's Eve - Tales of Serpentia

Mostly good stuff, but the talking intros and outros are rather lame. I like this singer better than the one on their first two cds.
