Oh... you poor little thang. I know it's hard to admit but Perry, even if he sings it live for you, won't even match the quality, texture, and tone of his voice when he first sang the song many summers ago. Please don't even ask for a live version of this song from Perry as it will only ruin his legacy, albeit your memories of him singing this beautiful song. I bet you won't be getting goosebumps if he does but the urgency to run to the bathroom pronto to vomit.

Just what is your problem?! And you are not funny.

SP originated the song. There will be comparisons .... some people prefer the original ... some will like Arnel's version ... it's ALL opinion. Nobody is degrading Arnel ... but you are degrading SP ... and his fans. Check yourself.

Girl, I have no problem. I know Perry originated the song and I have a copy. I LOVE IT!!! But what I don't like is when people would compare Perry and Pineda. Check my previous post on this thread. As a Gerontology major I know our voice changes as we age. I am pointing this as a medical fact when I said Perry will ruin his legacy if he sing the song now. Obviously it will be compared to his original rendition of the song, which I have to say again LOVE!!! Can you imagine Perry trying to reach the high notes of this beautiful song? I don't want his image shattered to smithereens. I love Perry and I'm saying this with no qualms. I respect him as a one of a kind artist. The man is a vocal genius.

I know this is all about personal taste and opinion and I am saying mine loud and clear as anybody else in MR.

I've check myself and I ain't stoppin', girl. I just started. Guess what? I'm enjoying it, Eh!

A lot of beautiful people are stupid. There’s a tremendous amount of idiots who look so good. It’s frightening. But not Johnny Depp.

Of course, people will compare AP to SP. So what? They're singing the same songs. And, if J gets another lead singer, people will compare that singer to SP singing the SP-originated songs ... and to AP singing the AP-originated songs.

And one shouldn't have to major in Gerontology to know voice changes with age. Again, so what? Who are you to say he can't sing anymore? Or for his fans to stop wishing he would sing again? How do you know what he would sound like singing today? Were you in his car with him? Or in the shower with him?

Okay, too many questions, lol.

Honey, I didn't say he can't sing anymore. Re-read my post. And how do I know how he would sound like singing today? Check on youtube on one of those baseball games in Boston. You're sounding too sophomoric for my taste with "How do you know what he would sound like singing today? Were you in his car with him?" or in the shower with him? so I'm letting this go.

Gotta get my chardonnay to cap the night. I'll be back tomorrow.

Jbaby, I’m certainly old enough to be your mother, so don’t call me honey…save it for your girlfriend  . And I have re-read all your posts on this thread. You most certainly implied that SP is too old to sing again…. lest he ruin your wet fantasy about him or induce someone to go vomiting.

Just what kind of SP fan are you? You see, a true Perryfan (okay, a perryloon) does not considerate his age a detriment. For us, it was never about the high notes but, rather, the richness and character of his voice, and the passion in his heart, that pulled the listener in.

SP and baseball games in Boston? You’re referring to the 2005 WS with the White Sox in Chicago, aren’t you? Silly boy, you’re judging Steve’s once-in-a-lifetime celebration with his adopted team as a barometer to how well he can sing today. 4 straight games of cheering and screaming … getting up early in chilly Chicago for the parade ….no warm-up whatsoever …puny speaker’s microphone …no background music…bunch of ballplayers singing backup. Yeah, good indication he can’t sing anymore...baaahahaha!

As for your sophomoric label, I can assure you I’m have no drooling schoolgirl crush on the man--just a very devoted fan. I only brought up the “being in his car and shower” references because SP once told an interviewer that those were the only places he would be caught singing today. That was several years ago, though,-- right after that WS, I believe. People (in the business) have reported hearing him sing – quite capably, btw.

Peace.

hi mom. lol.

tell me guys if both of you are at it, so that I can get myself some popcorn and soda.

as for both singers, they are both great in their respective ways. regardless whether SP can't sing no more, he sure is one of the greatest and one of the most influential singers of all time. proof of this achievement and influence is AP. so give SP some bigtime credit. as for AP, you can't find anyone like him everyday. singers like them are a rarity.

Neal's guitar is so beautiful on this song but Arnel vocals did nothing for me. I guess the singer either reaches you or doesn't and Arnel just doesn't reach me. Singing the words, singing the notes, nice voice but he does not connect with me on any level. Glad that he is making a connection with others, though.

(see you next week & hugs to Wyatt-man)

I am thrilled Lora said this :D because i feel the sameway. There is nothing there for me.He dose not have the feeling i had when i heard Mr P sing.

I know it's hard to admit but Perry, even if he sings it live for you, won't even match the quality, texture, and tone of his voice when he first sang the song many summers ago. Honey, you need to read all my posts in this thread and digest it like my cat. I will say it again for your sanity's sake or whatever is left of it. I said what I don't like is when people would compare Perry and Pineda. Why? Because it is unfair for both gentlemen to be compared against each other. Not in my posts did I say I like Pineda better than Perry in the song. In fact, I said I have a copy of the record by Perry and I love it.

If you want to be part of this discussion, go with the flow. Meaning follow the posts as it develops in the thread and say your rebuttal.

If you're after my sorry ass, I'm sorry but it's taken. 8)

Peace.

Like any good Canadian, my apologies for saying honey to you (We say sorry a lot here.) I know the issue whether Perry can stilll sing or not has always been the subject of gruelling debates (hopefully it won't lead to hair pulling because that's so uncool) which, in my opinion, should have been dead long time ago and never to be rescucitated. After all the man is enjoying the fruits of his labour.

You ask, just what kind of fan am I. OMG! I have a list to tell you that but I won't go that far. I only have two words to describe my being a Perry fan. Realistic believer. No words out there to describe my thoughts and feelings whenever I play his songs. My admiration to the voice is beyond. But at the same time I'm realistic that he won't be able to sing the same song again in the same tone, quality, and texture. The way he weaves his melody along side with his facial expression to convey his feelings is magical. This is why I don't want him to sing the song again because it will shatter the image that he has kept virtually untouched by his successors.

BTW, I am 24 years old and I don't think you're old enough to be my Mom.

First, never apoligise for anything you say on a message board. If you said it , you thought it. No need to try to put the toothpaste back in the tube, They'll get over it, it's only virtual chat anyway and if they don't, well that will just lead to more entertainment for the rest of us.

Second, there are women here old enough to be MY mother and I'm a few weeks shy of 43, so you being 24 isn't going to wash with that statement.

Lora I feel the same way. It's not that Arnel can't sing it's just that he doesn't grab me the way Steve Perry did when I first heard him and when I hear him sing. Everyone has their own opinions of the new guy and Journey's new road and that's fine. Some of us just don't feel Journey is the same without Steve Perry and that's okay to. It's okay to agree to disagree at times. :D

Jbaby ,,, I see you are back wanting to continue the conversation ... lol. Look, you came on this board and started shooting off the mouth with disparaging references against SP's age ... how he should stay retired or risk ruining his legacy .... brought up the lame WhiteSox WS tape as proof he can't sing anymore ... directly attacked 2 posters with dripping sarcasms -- Right or wrong?

This may be your style, but I thought it very rude and took exception. You apologized, so let's move on.

And, since you're 24, I most definitely can be your mother — just turned 53. That pic in the avatar is me — you just don't see the wrinkles. 8) Also, you can be sure, if I ever caught my 3 boys talking like how you did in this thread, I would wash their mouths out with soap!

Hi, Deb #3! People always say I could pass for 39. Good genes, I guess. And clean living helps, I think.
So ... how many beers did you drink last night?

Hehe, you're going to give me a swell head! No, seriously, you can't see my wrinkles from that pic. My son was trying to learn how to take pictures ... the focus is kind of off.

You had 11 beers in 1 night!? And, tonight, you will be back at it? Girl, do you put away beer like water?

Wow! Just had a chance to read this whole thread.....seems we have a new over the top, extremely agrestic, possible troll, troll wannabe, or extremely ignorant in human relations immature with a lot to learn and needs some schooling poster that I haven't seen before. :P Really now, BeautifulJBaby...why so venomous? Your time here may be very short lived if you don't get yourself in check real quick....Andrew will not tolerate the personal attacks as you have done in this thread...he lets people have their say very liberally but his one rule is that you try to debate things in at least a semi civilized manner...the quickest thing you can do to get your kester ousted is to tell someone to go F themselves or to threaten someone with bodily harm as you did on the previous page.
Besides Andrew you just lost all favor and respect from your fellow posters...way to go on alienating yourself right off the bat....heres some advice..start off climbing the hill slowly and watch where you step because you already stumbled and fell down hard ....see ya went and rolled back down the hill....take this as a learning experience on what not to do and we'll see if you can start again...hopefully you won't need as much help as you seem to need at this point getting up.  8)
