Tito wrote:As I mentioned in the Steve Smith thread, I got my Time 3 book signed by Smith. Now, this was the first time probably in 5 years I even looked at the thing. So, I was paging through it and was going through the song notes and I came to Only The Young. When I saw this I was shocked and then laughed and then laughed harder thinking SteveW is going to love this. In the Time 3 book for songwriting credits to Only The Young it saids, "S.Perry, J. Friga, N.Schon." All the other songs have J.Cain. I never noticed this, probably because until 4 years ago I never knew the man's old name was Fr-ga (sorry Jon). I wonder why and how for that matter it is like that. If anyone knows if there is a reason behind this or if it's just a typo (which I can't see how that would've come about), I would like to know...as others I'm sure.

Oh, that's right, I forgot. People were saying his real name was used on the released version of F&B. Could be Jay is his actual first name, not Jonathan. SP called him "J" in the old Escape-era interviews.
annie89509 wrote:I don't think anyone ever doubted that Jon's last name was Cain until talk started spreading on fan boards about that liner notation. And, with an unusual name like Friga, it opened a floodgate of commentary. Good question whether it was a miss-cue or intentional insertion.
Don't think I ever heard how/why the Cain name was chosen by Jon. And why his brother (Muggs Cain) also uses this name.

Seriously though, if you wanted to be a rock and roll stud..would you call yourself Jay Friga? I can't believe there isn't more biographical info out there on the guy.

So, people did catch this in the past. I never knew his old name was F---- until the high school reunion gig. I don't think F---- is an unusual name at all. I think it's very cool and I would've kept it personally. I wondered about Mugs changing it too. Probably they just syncronized. If I ever had the chance to do an interview with him I would like to ask him about the name change, where is came from, etc. Grant it, I would ask that last in case he punched me in my face and walked out. Maybe Andrew could ask him instead.

I'm 99.9% his first name in Jonathan and not Jay. That is probably a typo. Should be "J" but they put "Jay." Maybe he never legally changed his name to Cain and those two cases just slipped through the cracks.
Then again, maybe my one theory that he is in the witness protection program, hence the name change, is the reason why. If so, we should all back the f-ck off.

He had cousins out in west central AR, Paris I believe.
Hope those tidbits enrich your lives somehow.

It's disrespectful. I will only call him Cain - the name I know.
Where is it on his website?

Its not disrespectful. Its his family name. There's nothing wrong with using it.
Ok, so a lot of people made it seem disrespectful here... you should reclaim it.![]()
Give Jon Cain back his family name, Teet. Lead the charge!
Celebrate all that is Friga.
(I am NOT being a smartass, btw)

I think we should all go home tonight and say a prayer for the children that did die and also to the lord for not taking Jon Cain from us. Imagine how empty our lives would've been without him. Seriously. None of us would be here on MR without him. Think about that next time people.
