So they're pissing away $1.40 a gallon why? Gas was $4.19 and we were still buying. You're railing against them is proven wrong with the drop per gallon/barrel. The prices went up as dictated by the market, they're coming down for the same reason.

My BMW usually gets about 450 miles per topped off tank of fuel (17 gallon capacity). However, this last tank of gas, I'm almost down to nothing and still haven't even reached the 300 miles mark yet. And no, my car isn't running shitty all of a sudden.

Back in the late 90's, my daily driver was a American sports car. The fuel tank capacity of that car was right at about 13.5 gallons. I used to get roughly 300 miles per tank full in that car, give or take five miles. Then one day the fuel companies put in the MTEBs and my car's mileage went from 300 miles per tank full to about 179 miles per tank full....overnight!

From that moment on, I believe that oil companies have a way to formulate the fuel where it will give you shitty gas mileage, depending on how they do the mix at the oil refinery. I got to believe that they lowered the prices of fuel, but they also "watered" it down too, so you have to buy more gas.

So keep an eye on how many miles your getting out of that tank of gas your putting in your car today. And don't be surprised if your gas mileage is the shits!

MTEB (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) is no longer used, Ethanol is the oxidizer of choice these days. And yes it cuts gas milage, but what they call reformulated gasoline is usally not sold after the middle of September.

It sounds like your temp or o2 sensor is whacked. Your car will appear to be normal but it will lose mileage because it is running too rich. If you're losing 100 miles per tank, there is no way a differential that great is being caused solely by ether or ethanol. If it were, there would be a huge public outcry, which I haven't noticed.

Well last week and this week I've had to run the A/C, so that may also have been screwing up my mileage too. Just keep an eye on your mileage and see if yours goes way down also.

Everything in this country goes down while the prices go up. That's the American way. Hell, 5 years ago, any cup of yogurt you bought at the store was a standard 8 ozs. Now, Columbo is the only yogurt company who even makes an 8 oz yogurt. Everything is 4 or 6 ozs, and double the price. Most peanut butter manufacturers have reduced their packaging on average of 3 ozs fewer and prices have gone up 46% in the past 3 years. We're all paying more for less. Unfortunately, it's not just oil companies who completely screw the public!
