SP did a Little Rock show too...right before some alleged 'stomach virus' cancelled the rest of the tour.
I think it was in Feb. Don't remember.

I don't believe that the breakdown of ANY relationship is attributable to just one individual. Mistakes were made on all sides.

Purrkat wrote: Very proud people who won't admit they are wrong.

I don't believe this is the case for Perry. The guy flat out said he fucked up when asked about firing Valory and Smitty. He said if given the opportunity to make that decision again, he wouldn't do it. That tells me the guy can be honest about his flaws, as a human being. Neal is the only dick who NEVER takes responsiblity for anything (aside from booking non-stop gigs). Schon has never taken any responsiblity for fracturing the relationship with Perry, and he has denied "Tapegate", in spite of being given endless opportunites to come clean about it! Schon simply doesn't know how to man up! He's a midget, both in stature, and emotionally!

Questions, questions, questions. But no answers. :(

Yes, I hear SP can be a butt about things. That is his Portuguese blood from my perspective. Very proud people who won't admit they are wrong. 8)
NS is a hot head of German descent (GAWD I love how people prove their heritage! ) who spouts off at the least little thing, especially if it doesn't go his way. :P

Anyway, c'mon guys. Kiss and make up. At least before one of you dies and you harbor regret. If you need a mediator, I am for hire.

I can just taste that chocolate bar...mmmm mmmmm.

Water WAY under the bridge, I think.
When Steve surprised Neal at the Walk of Fame Steve was invited by Neal to join them that night.
Steve's face at the time (said, No way on earth, in my interpretation) was borne out. He didn't go. He doesn't want to
go back in time. Journey for him is history. 10 years have gone by. That's a lot of time.

Maybe they'll be civil to each other again, but I don't think any real relationship or even contact will happen again.
Steve doesn't want it. And after all these years, the others don't either.

Seems easier to avoid each other rather than open old wounds.
Steve's style, for sure.

He even wrote and recorded "Anyway" about it. The first time I heard that song, actually listening to the words, knowing what it meant, which was just last year, I changed my mind about a lot of things.

[
quote="Liquid_Drummer"]About Steve and cocaine.. Look at his eyes during any ROR footage. They looked like they were going to shoot out of his head at times.. Thats my opinion and as someone who has done the stuff many times (but not anymore and not for many many years I would say that during ROR tour him and Neal were rolling around in the stuff. That is not what hurt his voice.. Overuse and...........

I have a couple of sources. I have confirmed they were "in the know" in the late 80's. Former writer and a former pr guy.... Both have told me what happened to Perry's voice. They were told second hand but that second hand was damn close to home base.. I can and never will be able to be anymore specific than I am right now...

What is the most common abused drug when people are depressed, stressed or down ? Answer that for yourselves and then find out the effect it has on singers. It is well documented. It started around the time Escape took off. Notice a little weight gain on him after that ? Deeper voice ? Thats all I can say without violating trust..

Anyone like a cold one ?
[/quote] I, did notice that too, in the medical field things like that just jump out at you. By the time of the ROR tour Perry 's physical appearance indicated a heavy substance abuse, especially in the BGTY video. (strung out was more than just song). By the early to mid 2000 's photos indicate a heavy use of alcohol; (the photo of him and Uncle Joe Benson). The change in appearance, started after the white soxs thing; His skin tone, texture and his hair.when a person stops drinking or using drugs they tend to stay away from places that can pull them back into that lifestyle, a prime reason to not show up at the HOB with the others, where alcohol and drugs could have been easy to come in contact with. Photos at this time show a man looking heathier than he has since the Infinity years.JMO

Interesting opinion.

This post really belongs in the Steve' voice topic, but what the heck!!

I wasn't paying attention at the time, but I read recently an article written around 1981 in which Steve said his particular vices were beer and pizza. I never heard or read about stronger stuff. Could beer do it?

I know Steve is a coffee addict too and I've read coffee is dehydrating and causes singers to become raspy over time.

I noticed the manic quality in his eyes in the BGTY video, too. I mean, how could you miss it? I just thought he might be having a manic type reaction given how depressed he was with the many losses he was experiencing. Coulda been more, of course.
But I don't want to get into unfounded rumors.

Just wondering because I've run across several "people who know people in the know" who've stated there is a secret reason Steve's voice deteriorated other than the usual overuse and overtouring. But it is always "a secret" and guarded carefully by everyone. I mean, really....beer and coffee don't seen shameful enough to me to be such a tightly held secret!!

Could it be that no one is really sure and it is just rumor?

I really really am curious.....

I don't know what he's done in the interim, but when Herbie brought him on board he said that Steve blackmailed his drug dealer to get the demo tape to Him. If this was totally false I would say something would have been put out there as a rebuttal by Steve. Somethings you can let thing slide but if that was lie told by Herbie, Steve, the litigious one, should have put a disclaimer out there. Herbie never mentions any further use after Perry joined the group. Silence makes me think that Herbie scored with this one.

I would never call them a cover band (you can't cover yourself), but it does sadden me to have another singer cover those songs sung (and made famous) by SP. That's why I would never go to one of their concerts (I'm sure no one cares 1 way or the other). Not saying they have no right to continue on ... just that I can't participate in the celebration.

Bloated, sickly skin tone, etc.
It is hard for those recovering to not be drawn in again. So if his choice was to decline the invites to the galas, then it is to his credit that he did.

But, it is odd how he looked good during the WOF ceremony in 2004 and then looked so haggard in 2005 and on to 2006 when he was photographed with those women on the WOF. Must have been a rough couple years on him during that time frame.
Poor guy. :(
But, he seems to be on the road to recovery and he needs a pat on the back for that.

The WOF ceremony (Jan 2005) and White Sox WS (Oct 2005) occurred in the same year, I believe. People are making too much of how SP looked in photos, I think. We don't know anything about his life.

Okay, I understand what you're saying and I respect your decision to not go to any more concerts where Steve Perry isn't singing. I'm just trying to figure out why it's okay for Perry to sing Journey songs on a solo tour with a different drummer, keyboard player, guitar player and bass player, but it is NOT okay (determined by fans or SP himself) for Journey to play Journey songs with a different singer.

When it comes to Sp, everyone has VERY strong opinions. I tend to keep mine to myself except for when someone really pisses me off.
That being said, Don't apologize for your opinions! Thats what this Board is about. You didn't insult anyone personally so don't worry about it.

FightingilliniJRNY, exactly my point. Why can Steve sing a bunch of Journey songs and it be okay but if Journey does it it's covering the songs? Steve, Neal, and Jon wrote the songs. Jon wrote Faithfully. I mean, that's his song. He's part of Journey. So I don't get why they get flack for doing that, since two of the songwriters are still with the band. Those songs are theirs too. Now if they got the wrong singer or wrong charisma, it won't fly. It's very tricky to replace Perry's beautiful identifiable voice on those songs. But Perry has been gone quite a while. The band is rocking right now with Arnel. More power to them. If Perry came out and did a solo tour and sings Faithfully and other Journey songs, more power to him also.

Holy shit. WTF? I would think "Ms. Lora" has a right to post in this thread too. Of course she has SP's back. So do many other people here who don't have the close ties to him. I didn't see where anything she said was over the line or deserving of the responses it got. I can certainly understand how all the talk of 'sources' that may or may not (who's to say, IDK) be legit would be upsetting to someone who IS a legitimate source. As far as I'm concerned, the only true source regarding SP here is Lora and Cyndy (and Stu to a certain extent). Unless, of course, LockNLoad wants to re-join the party...

Steve Perry DOES deserve to be on a pedestal here. If not for Steve Perry and his time with Journey, this forum would not exist, because Journey would never have been the Journey that we all love. Period.

p.s. I don't know shit about what substances (legal or otherwise) any of the band members were using. I agree during the BGTY video, SP looks wild, and I gotta admit, I think it's HOT!!! :D

Oh golly gee. I pissed off the LOONS too.

People, get with REALITY. (Can't say his name) is a GREAT singer and writer. No dispute there. I love him too, ok?
But I am sorry, he is NOT beyond reproach, positive or negative.
People talk about people. It is a given. If (can't say his name) doesn't like it then we will get out the time machine, turn back the clock and make sure he never joined Journey.
We will have him mopping floors at Jack in the Box. Happy??

I was REALLY, REALLY trying to be a nice person, but you loony toons are getting my ire up. :x When (can't say his name) dies one day maybe you will see he was human after all.

I want to talk about global warming now, OK? Go back to Fairy Land............. :P
