Revelation Japanese Release

Postby Gibby » Thu Oct 16, 2008 7:37 am

Just got mine in the mail. No dvd but comes with a sticker, a large folder for holding papers, etc... that has a small card inside with a pic of the band, and a really cool 2 page Journey time line that shows the music history of every band member and how he came to be a part of Journey. It describes the current band today as Journey #14.

The version of The Place In Your Heart is really different from the one we all know. Very cool to hear a different producer's take on a song.

TPIYH remake was ruined as soon as they took Neal's post-chorus lead guitar motif out of the song. Anything else wrong with the song just ices the cake.

Not sure why they did that. Even at the end when he plays that lead it's mixed pretty low. But, I do like it and I think the different bridge is cool.

Special thanks to Gibby and Rick for getting this bad boy on here. Good job guys.

I really like this new re-do. It kind of has the same vibe of Robert Teppers "NO EASY WAY OUT" in Rocky IV when Rocky is remembering Apollo. I've listened to this 3 times and I'm getting that same vision every time. Good job J-men on this one.

That's my only complaint as well.
Arnel's voice wins on depth and passion, but Augeri lacks the diction issues that are very prominent here.
Still, like "Let it Take You Back", this would've been a great addition to the US release.

Comparing the two versions....

Postby Musician95616 » Thu Oct 16, 2008 1:50 pm

So I spent way too much money just to buy one song ($46!!!!), and I'm not so sure I'm convinced I like it better than the original.

ARNEL version
1. Definitely a cleaner production
2. Better enunciation
3. Interesting new middle 8
4. When Arnel goes for the higher notes in the chorus, he reminds me of Paul Stanley.......

AUGERI version
1. Rocks harder!
2. Cool Schon guitar lead hooks in the post-chorus (greatly missed in the newer version)

i agree.
arnel seems tongue twisted in some lines.
the song itself lacks the hooks which a journey tune should have.
im glad its not on my CD.
otherwise id skip it.

I'll be in Japan next week, so I'll be getting at least one for myself. Plus while I'm at it, I'll look around and see if there are any articles in music magazines about Journey over there too.

After further review can we stop with the retreads already. I'll stick with the original version after listening to this. I'm starting to think that if they could get away with it, these guys would redo Street talk too. What happened to all the new songs on Cains computer? Any more of this and I'll just go out and buy the remasters again. This is getting ridicules. They can't get people to forget about Perry so now it looks like they want to erase Augeri. BOO.
