hahahaha! Thank God (?)- nah, just didn't like the go here for the clue, now go there for the clue, now go back, now read like a Tv movie script, now try not to think about how they cast Wilson's island buddy in the lead for the movie- blah blah blah...
I actually liked how it challenged some of the known stuff and it was an interesting theory, but they made SUCH a big deal out of that book. Not that great really.

Two good books I read last year:

Time Traveler's Wife and The Terror. Both decent (though The Terror got long).

Anybody read the new John Lennon book yet? Huge Beatle fan here (and yes Rhi, they WERE more popular than u know who) but the book sounds pretty smutty. Also, the fact that Yoko kind of added a bunch to it doesn't make me think it's going to be that great. Afteral, Yoko's always seemed to be in it for Yoko.

Anyway, derailed the thread into The Beatles (again???) Could be worse, I could've uttered "Eric Martin" (hi Deb!)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

"The Historian" is more of a mental puzzle, at times you can kind of see where the story was going (or I could anyhow), but the writing was superb. Ignore Dan Brown. He's a bag of dicks.

(and yes Rhi, they WERE more popular than u know who)

I see a 5:4 ratio, they've got them beat just on overall mass. :P

Yoko's always seemed to be in it for Yoko.

Yoko is also a bag of dicks.

"Eric Martin"

I actually LIKE Hanson. (Don't kill me!)
Yeah, they did mmmbob, but they were like, what 15?
They play, write, sing all their own stuff, and their singer's got some actual soul and balls in his voice for a white kid. They basically told their record company that wanted them to stay little kids to F'off, and some (no not all) of their tunes are pretty good. I remember Rick Okasik was working with them producing an album and Rick fought for the band to do their own thing while the record company wanted to have some wanky boy band. Rick thought they were a great rock band, just young. They're great players. Their Christmas album is one of the only ones I can stomach.

There's a serial on YouTube, I THINK it was called Strong Enough to Break or something, and you basically see, through a series of youtube episodes, them working on their album, then their record company crapping on them, then the band just going "the hell with you, we're going on our own". It's great stuff for anyone interested in the music business and how it really works. I've got nothing but respect for Hanson. They've also worked with some great songwriters including Bleu and Matthew Sweet.

I like power pop and these guys have done some good stuff. It's not rap, but mostly rock and I think it's pretty decent stuff. I respect them.
There are other bands out there that are complete shills for the record company and everything is pitch tweaked and protooled to death (NOT talking Augeri here folks) and they are complete crap. Hanson, on the other hand are decent musicians. Yeah, they're young, but that's not a crime.

Couldn't get into the Silmarillion. Too much 'son of, father of, cousin of' and not enough story. I made it through a 1/4 of the book back when it came out.

I've heard that Tolkien's kid has a great book out now. I've heard good things about it and may pick it up.

I can't read Tolkien. I tried page one of The Hobbit once and it gave me an ice cream headache. I barely made it through those movies, but the books, holy jeez that was rough.

The Hobbit WAS like that but it was a great story after wading through the prose. I remember reading it to my daughter when she was like 4 or 5. A bit much, but she ended up a lifelong Tolkien fan.

This one is more of story than "The Silmarillion" (which was more like a cross between an encyclopedia and Bible about Middle Earth).

I think you'll enjoy it.

Agreed. Taylor does have a good voice. Yes, I actually know the name.  My daughter was into them years ago. And comparing them vocally and talent-wise to some of the other boy bands back them, they come out above.

But then again I can smell soul a mile away.

Any Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs, or Jerome Corsi book are outstanding. The Time 3 booklet is a good read too.

I don't hate you Tito. Think you're funny.
But Buchanan is such a hateful jerk. I quit listening to him about 10 years ago, so I don't know where he's at now, but he was a complete creep and I couldn't believe anyone would side with the guy. It's been a long time, so maybe he's a different dude now. Seemed very Rush Limbaugh (a COMPLETE douche)
