Has anybody here in MR ever seen this? I can feel the pain while watching.

That will probably be Arnel in a few years. Augeri lasted a good 5 years before his voice betrayed him. Arnel started slipping a little after only 4 months. Props to Augeri for surviving as long as he did.

That definitely wasn't one of his best  . I just go look at his singing at a Christmas show end of 2007 on YouTube ,and he sounded really good.

Or I just listen to Kiss Me Softy on Arrival, and I know he has a really good voice.

Gunbot, do you think Arnel has a more powerful voice and that Steve Augeri was always singing some of the classics a little out of his range and it took a toll on his voice? I feel Arnel's voice is more naturally in that range and more powerful; whereas, Steve A. strained more for those songs. Now, Steve's voice on Arrival is very nice and suits his voice.

Now, you're right, if they don't take breaks better these next few years, his voice will show the strain. Hopefully, they will break it up a little better. :)

Augeri sang out of his range but didn't show very much degradation for a few years. When I saw Arnel in September he had some strain on his voice after 4 months. Augeri is a pro and may have taken better care of his self vocally, but in the end wear and tear caught up. Arnel has a stronger voice but that might lead to his voice eroding quicker than Augeri's as he doesn't seem to know how to step down smoothly like Augeri and Perry both would do on certain difficult songs.

Gotcha, Gunbot. I remember Kevin Shirley talking about Arnel's voice and worrying he was going to go all out in the beginning and worrying about how his voice would hold up at the end because it was a rough tour. He said he needed to learn how to do that and save his voice throughout the complete tour. Arnel said Neal and Jon were telling him maybe to tone down jumping and so on when he was having troubles after he was sick to maximize his breathing and control. I'm paraphrasing all of this.

Thanks for your insight. :)

There is no comparison between the two. Augieri had a slightly above average voice.

Well, the good news is, Robert Fleischman has kept his voice in top form over the past 35 years.

Oh, now, come on.

He put in perhaps the finest vocal performance this side of "Winds of March" on the classic Vinnie Vincent Invasion song, "Invasion".

Wow, what a voice.

Steve A. kept the torch alive for Journey even from a flickering distant otherwise there will be no JSS and Arnel.
He fulfilled what was required of him and did it with grace... a talented and a great man.
This video might not do him justice and it pains to see such a good man struggles and gives his last best shot for the fans. He did it anyway..same as Arnel during the last stretch of this 08 Tour..he is struggling but kept on going..flu, acid reflux or what ever it was. That is why we all love and long for Journey..its every mans tenacity and dedication to do his goddamn best everyday and everynight of their performance..no gimmick no fanfare just Journey music from start to finish..
I just hope that the current line up will realized that fans will stick to them no matter what and just learn to slow down a little,,and for Arnel we will understand if he will step it down a half key lower just to preserve his voice and just go on with his natural voice range..
Keep on Rockin..
Many of the great achievements of the worldweer accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working.

What happened with Augeri is old news. Don't see a need to rehash or rebash.

SA & JSS have moved on, maybe we should too.

Agreed. Like someone said, RickLights I think, give Arnel 10 years in prime time, singing songs that move us, and we'll talk.

This was Augeri's last performance on the DL Tour before he had to step out for JSS. I don't even know how he's sill keeping pitch! Takes true balls knowing how sick you are and being scrutinized as it is and come out in the heat on a big time tour and sing hurt like that. Warrior. Cheers to Steve A for future success.

This reminds me of a constant irritation on another board. Im on a wwII warbirds forum (about classic airplanes that are still flying from the war) Every couple of months somebody digs up a spectactular, recent fatal crash that has already been discussed 8 million times and here it comes again like nobody's ever heard of it. We are never going to stop having threads about this clip.

Normally I'd say slow newsday on the MR boards but it's "Isla's" first post and its an Augeri's "Worst DSB performance". A newbie's ignorance or an agenda? Not quite sure.

This thread was headed south from the start. I doubt it'll live long enough for us to figure it out.

You seem to forget that Pineda had been singing as a profession prior to his Journey gig. Augeri on the other hand was working at The Gap having at that time given up on a career in music. Given the circumstances and acclimatising I believe Arnel has done and will continue to do just fine.

He may not have any business singing it, but I suppose he can be near it since he helped write it.[/b]

I'm not sure either, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw and thought about that. Coming in, guns blazing, on post number one is either just a really dumb move or meant for nothing more than stirring folks up which in turn is, a really dumb move.

Augeri could sing...just not the back catalog. I thought there were a lot of great tunes on "Arrival" that Augeri sounded great on. I honestly thought Augeri sucked, until I heard "Arrival". That's when I realized that the guy had talent. The guy was simply forced to sing in a range that his voice wasn't capable of singing in, while singing the back catalog. There were very few times that I didn't hear Augeri struggling to hit notes, on the Journey classics. Again, it doesn't make him a bad guy. The truth of the matter is that most people would struggle to hit Perry's notes (including the Perry of today)!
