And now that she, that's right, she posted on here it's gonna go down the toilet. Unless Saint John is imitating fuck wad?

Ya know, difficult as this is to understand for the die-hards, I stopped considering Journey a real band since ROR. When they canned Valory & Smith, and went out with hired guns, Journey was no longer a band. They were three super stars just out there playing music. And with all the lineup changes & what-ifs through the 90s & now, they're still not a band to me.

Yes, they're one of my favorite groups and some of my favorite music, but not a band.

Based on that alone, The E Street Band get's the nod.

Put Springsteen up against darned near ANY other songwriter in the world, and he wins...quite handily.

So you got one of the greatest songwriters and a real band...Sorry Journey loons, but you lose.

I actually never liked Springsteen at all. I think he sucks. His lyrics suck, and his music sucks. Here's how badly he sucks: Out of all the bands that have forums on MelodicRock.com, Springsteen isn't one of them. Journey blows him away completely. They are not even in the same league, and this poll proves it once and for all.

Sorry Springsteen trolls, but you lose.

Sorry, but this does not look like award-winning lyrics to me:

Bruce Springsteen wrote:BORN IN THE U.S.A.

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up

CHORUS

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

CHORUS

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son don't you understand"

CHORUS

I had a buddy at Khe Sanh
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Journey's my favorite band (well, them and Rush)

BUT

Springsteen is so superior in the songwriting/lyrical department, it isn't even fair...

I don't see how anyone can say that Springsteen's lyric-writing, music, songwriting, or even his voice.... suck.

Just because he doesn't have a crystal-clear high tenor doesn't mean he can't sing. The dude knows how to convey some awesome emotion.... I've gotten shivers more from Bruce songs than I ever have Journey songs, and that's saying alot....

I fail to see what you are talking about. I don't see anything in Bruce's lyrics that woould make him superior in any way. His lyrics read like something a child could have written to me.

No, I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe I listened to too much Rush and got spoiled. Comparing Bruce Springsteen's writing skills to Neil Peart's is like comparing a random 5th grader's essay to that of a college grad.

Here I can say it...Springsteen's lyrics, music and voice sucks! See how easy that was?? The guy sounds like he just got done licking a chalkboard, and his lyrics (while supposedly blue collar, hard working American-esk), remind me of a poem I wrote the first time I got drunk at age 15. I'll give him props on the band...some great musicians that sound great together at times.

And no I'm not going to compare him to Journey. It's apples and oranges. The comparison makes no sense at all.

Ditto! :) I agree, Bruce is the more superior song writer, but lyrics have never been my top priority on choosing music. Vocals, melody, music/beat come before that. I like a lot of Bruce's music, but he's not the type I can listen to for long stretches........his (I can't quite squeeze one out) vocals are one of those a-little-goes-a-long-way.

I enjoy both... I don't think you can compare the two. It's like comparing Bob Dylan to Yes. Two rock legends to be sure, but cut from completely different molds.

Finally someone else is talking logically. I definitely cannot understand the infatuation with The Boss. I always thought of him as a horrible impersonator of John Cougar Mellencamp. He played on the whole patriotic thing and struck gold with it. Overnight he pulled his struggling career out of the gutter, but I simply never saw the attraction that so many others saw. To me he was just a mediocre musician, vocalist, and songwriter. Not even close to being in the same category with Journey... more like in the same league with Dan Fogelberg.

Cain and Perry are way better lyric writers than Springsteen, it's not even close. And Jim Peterik leaves Springsteen in his dust as a songwriter.

Hell, Jim Peterik leaves Springsteen in his dust as an all around singer and musician, and Peterik's not even widely known for his singing outside of "Vehicle."
