You are aware the song was inspired by the aftermath of two 747s diving into skyscrapers, right?

LOL...funny.

Seriously, I think if I recall, it was Steve's observations at how serene life was above the clouds in a plane, even in the madness of a post-911 world. So it's only an indirect reference to 911....

I thought it was about someone mourning over the loss of a loved one.

Incredible song nonetheless.

perhaps the subject matter of the song is..I dunno....but I do recall steve mentioning in an interview that the view of the sky once a plane rose above the clouds brought a certain level of inspiration to the song

Cheers to Steve Augeri. A great guy and a great singer. I'm glad to hear he's doing well, he DESERVES it.

Mac, any update on Valentine and the new disc?

Tall Stories sounded terrific. I thought I would never ever hear those songs live, and this day was such a gift. Stay with Me is my favorite song off that album, and it was great. Sister of Mercy rocked the rafters. And the 90 seconds they did of Stone in Love as the first part of the encore was terrific.

Sounds awesome!!! .... Oh you LUCKY chicas!! So glad to hear the great news on Steve Augeri! :) Thanks for posting the pic...

Not a naysayer.... just wondering why he chosed to do SIL when he could have picked one of his many originated J songs.

Anyway, good to see SA back on his feet. Will be interested in seeing some videos of him in this show. Don't know any of those other songs.

Maybe trying to show his vocal recovery. SIL is a tough song to sing.

Ahh .... but why give people a chance to critique him against the master? Or Arnel? He should stay with Tall Stories songs.

Someone said it was only a 90 sec. lead in to something else. I'm sure he did fine.

I hope someone recorded it, would love to hear that.

So far, only 4 Firefest videos have been uploaded to Youtube that I can find.

Yes he did bust ouf Stone in Love and it sounded great. Great performance by Steve, new Tall Stories album sounds promising too from the two tracks that he did.

Ill attempt to write a review of both days if I ever recover.

Yesterday - sober as a judge but I stood right in front of Rob Marcello's guitar during the Danger Danger Set. Dont think my heads ever gonna get back to normal :D

I have to echo what's been said so far. Augeri took a song or two to loosen up and get the nerves out of the way and then he let fly, holding nothing back. His voice sounded fantastic on the heavier songs, and of course he's always had charisma to spare as a frontman. It was a great performance by ANY standards, let alone a comeback performance from a band who hadn't actually had a chance to rehearse since getting here or get a proper soundcheck.

Steve won over a lot of doubters last night.

Agreed. Brilliant. I asked him after the show (with a smile) - "did you relax after the 2nd track??" He said he was so nervous and was so grateful to the rest of the band for helping him get out there and he really did deliver in fine style after a nervous start.

You could just see him relax and embrace the event and with each track he pushed his voice a little harder.

I just love hearing all of this!! I'm so happy for him. Some of us always knew he would rise above again.

I remember Steve telling me that Beyond the Clouds was written when he had to fly a short time after 9/11. As they were taking off, there was all this chaos and gloom below and when they were climbing to their altitude they went through the clouds and the sun was shining and he thought to himself that there will always be brighter days ahead once you can get 'beyond the clouds'.

Ok, well yes I will, but right now I have to dash out for dinner with a certain band

Steve had a lot to prove tonight in the UK and he started off nervously. But he delivered BIG TIME and more than I anticipated.

Very very proud of the man tonight. Terrific vocals.

More soon!

Do you want me to do an appreciation thread for him?
