I know where Brussels is, but I don't get the significance.
Unless he is grilling some Brussels sprouts for me. :?

OK got it.
Stevew2 thinks I live in Belgium.
He is waiting for me in a restaurant which serves grilled Brussels sprouts and he has cleaned his teeth before dinner.

Makes perfect sense.
Dunno what I was thinking.

I do like belgian chocolates though. Those gorgeous praline seashell shaped ones.

I have had the chocolates your talking about when I lived in Germany. Do you guys make the English Licorice or is that one of those things made elsewhere, and "said" to be from a country?

Liquorice as a candy is an English thing as far as I know and is still made here. Pontefract in Yorkshire is supposed to be where it started. You can still buy 'pontefract cakes' which aren't really a cake, they are just flat round discs of liquorice and they are sold in bags.
We also have long strings of liquorice and bars etc but I think only the 'cakes' are English in origin.

EDIT - whoops, forgot to mention Liquorice 'Allsorts'. They are definitely made here in the UK as well.

The cakes were the first time licorice was being used as a candy and sweetened. From what I understand, all the licorice candies we see now, stem from the pontefract cakes being such a success.

The pontefract cakes I have tasted haven't been very sweet. A little bitter in fact. [make you poo like a goose though! ]
Now Liquorice Allsorts are LOADED with sugar! Yuk!
Now you know why Brits have lousy teeth.

There used to be some mint flavoured ones too, but I haven't seen them for a while. Instead of having pink and orange striped candy layers between the liquorice, they where all white. Mmmmm memories.
