And you don't let children around weapons full stop! don't even joke about that type of stuff. If you want to be an irresponsible parent, then be prepared for the repercussions. But I am sure every parent here is not an idiot, and with all this heated discussion - I highly doubt, anyone,
actually I would bet money on it, that not one person here who is "sane" would let their kids near any form or weapon, being a gun, a sword, a butchers knife, or even a bottle of poison.

You can own a pistol, provided it is kept at the gun club and not in a private home, and, again, you have the relevent licence. Is it perfect? No. Are their gun deaths in Australia? Yes. But
every gun death in Australia is major news, which gives you an indication of how infrequent they are. But then, Australians also don't see owning a gun as a right, we see it as a choice and a responsibility. We save our 'rights' for things like voting and affordable health care
Well that's exactly right, it is major news, and it rarely happens here in Australia. Also due to the rigmarole of going through all that to own a gun. As Arianddu mentioned - it costs a fair bit of money, and getting that "approved locked safe" that meets standards is not cheap either.

Exactly!
