I turn into a blubbering idiot everytime I hear these songs:

Pete Seeger singing 'The Midnight Special', my darling Dad's favourite song. But it's tears with a smile, because every time I hear it, in my mind I can hear Dad singing along, clear as a bell and slightly out of tune, almost as if he was still sitting next to me. On the days when I miss him badly, this one 'brings him home'.

The other one that brings a tear most times is Thin Lizzy's 'Dublin', a love song for home. I'm not from Dublin, but swap Adelaide or Cardiff for it, and it's how I feel; which ever one I'm in, I'm missing my 'other' home.

Hm, I don't think I've ever shed any tears to a song, but I can think of a lot of songs packed with a different kind of emotion than a typical 80s ballad or what not. It's really gotta be songs that tell a "story" and aren't just groups of contrived lyrics:

I have ALWAYS loved "Same Auld Lang Syne". It's a very moving song and difficult not to have a quiet moment of reflection while listening to it. "Leader Of The Band" is also a great song. If I remember the story correctly, I believe Dan wrote that song as a tribute to his dad. As for Henley...dude has some of the greatest music ever written!

I don't think a song itself makes anyone cry but some songs just have the ability to bring back emotions associated with life events.

Streets of Heaven always makes me think of my twin nieces that died last year and when I think of that I always hear, in my mind, the sound of my sister's uncontrolled, painful sobs as their little casket was closed and I feel my sisters arms around me as we sat at their graveside crying together as their father placed their casket in their grave.

When I hear Slipping Through My Fingers I think of my own little girls that it seems like just days ago were babies in my arms and one is now about to leave and go out on her own. I would give anything for just a little more time of them being little enough to hold and rock to sleep again. My 7 year old keeps promising me that she'll always be my baby and she'll always let me hold her because-in her words "nothing bad can happen when I'm in my mommy's arms" yet she keeps growing and growing and needing her Mommy less and less.

Not sure exactly what could have happened to G&T Sky to bring forth such emotions when he hears "Girls, Girls, Girls" but I'm sure there's a sad story there. Go ahead and share it with us, we're here for ya. :lol:

BTW, THE definitive version of Lang Syne is definitely from the live "Greetings From The West" CD/DVD. Fogelberg's voice is more mature, a bit deeper, and a bit raspier than on the studio version and it really works well. Drum sound is huge too

I'm pretty good through the whole song, until the end: "And as I turned to make my way back home, the snow turned into rain"... then the sax. That's when I go all emotional. The lyrics are amazing, and I'm big on great lyrics... anybody with a heart can relate to that song, very universal. The best time to listen to it is driving on the interstate on a dreary snowy day.
