When obama was elected president....

some 'other' remembrances....

5) When I FIRST became a member here and everyone thought I was JOE. Incidently, it was June 12th of last year. The day the story leaked about tapegate/or the day SA was out of the band.
4) When I first saw that white bronco crawling down that stretch of highway in Cali...
3) When the Space Shuttle Blew up.
2) When the OJ verdict came down.
1) When I first heard 'You Better Wait' for the first time. I said, 'DAMN I know that dude's voice!'

I was playing softball last night at Elizabeth Seton high school. It was our post season tournament. Suddenly there were fucking police cars everywhere and we were told that the rumor is our games might be cancelled because Obama's helicopter needed a place to land. Sounds like bullshit to me, but there were over 30 police cars present. There was also talk of blocking off the Bishop Ford expressway (which is adjacent to the fields) which leads into the Dan Ryan so he had a straight shot to Grant Park. This was at about 6 pm.

I'll always remember when John Lennon was shot. I was Christmas shopping at Fred Meyer's and they were playing all this great Beatles Music over the in store system. I was loving it as I'm a huge Beatle's freak. In fact I had JUST picked up his new Double Fantasy album to buy for a friend for Christmas. I remember looking at it and going "Damn, why does Yoko have to have half the songs on the album????" AND JUST THEN they announced it over the loud speaker.

You could hear a pin drop in this department store. You could look around and see people getting closer together. What a horrible fucking night that was.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I was asleep.

I'd been watching the ABC news coverage and I think I fell asleep around 8 or so. at 11:00 I woke up and Obama was on the tv, just starting his speech and across the bottom it said "Obama Elected President". Couldn't believe I missed it - I thought it was gonna be all night long with "still too close to call" and that I could sneak a nap in. D'oh!

When Obama was elected president I was sitting at a table with a bunch of people at Real Time Sports, a bar in Elk Grove Village, IL listening to the guys warming up to start an acoustic set. Keith announced it just as we all saw it on the TVs around the bar. Half the crowd cheered, half of them booed. I left soon after and drove back to the city listening to McCain's and then Obama's speeches on the radio.

I was at work.

But I was very surprised that McCain was already giving his concession speech. Given the way the last two elections went, this one was very fast!

Obama. Was on my chair in my family room predicting that 11:00 it would be in. Sure enough 11:00 hit and he was announced. I woke my mom up telling her the news. She was pissed she missed it because she fell alseep for 5 min!

4. White Bronco. I was up my Grandfathers house with my cousins laying on the floor and remembering this was the most fascinating thing I've ever see. I was in 1st grade and remember this vividly.
3. By space shuttle I'm thinking you mean Columbia. I was up my buddies house and I spent the night after a rad party the night before. We stayed up in the wee- hours and around 9 or something we watched that on TV.
2. OJ verdict. I remember this all to well because I had a bad case of the chicken pox! Fuckin' suckkkkkkked. I remember when he was found innocent my Mom fell back on her chair.

uhh, hope that was entertaining for you guys in that brief 2 min haha.

That's because you're a wee puppy...  He probably meant Challenger.
I was in school when that happened. They interrupted our day with that news.
The news coverage on that was just  - over and over they played the tape of it blowing up. Sad sad stuff.

Challenger was Sept of '86, right? Well... I guess I was still teetering around in diapers noming gerber peas! Travie was probably still the twinkle in his Pop's eye!

...Columbia, I was on the 3rd floor of the Renaissance Worthington in downtown Ft. Worth, TX. We just woke up to a guy from my radio station back home calling to see if we were okay. We went to the mall later that day and saw some government van searching for debris in the parking lot.

I was in high school when Challenger blew. We were watching live because of the "1st Teacher in space" deal.

I watched the OJ Chase at a friend's house.

No one even mentioned 9/11. I also rememer the OKC bombing vividly.

I remember where I was when Freddie Mercury and SRV died.

Yep. I used to live w/ Keith, I love those guys. They made me a part of their 7h fam when I was new here and didn't know anyone. Best group of people ever. They'll do originals, trust me. They have the new album to push and so they're doing about 3-4+ originals per full band gig right now. Go buy the CD if you don't have it yet. :)

For me it was 9/11/01.

Somehow, I KNEW something bad had just PERSONALLY happened to me and my family when the North Tower fell...

Turns out my brother-in-law was there on the 92nd floor...31 years old.

Left a wife and two young kids.

Bad, bad day.

Cool! ...I still spend a lot of time out in the NW burbs, I will try to catch a show sometime. I'd go see them at Nellie's on Sat night, but I've already got plans up in Lake Zurich and then in Lincolnshire that will have me tied up. :)
