OT: Songs that make you cry

You know, I only remember crying during a song once in my adult life. We had just had my oldest daughter, Alyssa, and were having a "date night" while she was at home with a sitter. "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle came on and I started listening, then tearing up and choking up. My wife looks over and tells me to grow a pair. Not really, made up that last part. :wink:

"Father's Chair" by Rick Springfield is pretty moving. Anyone who has lost a father (I haven't) would likely lose it to that one. Much like "Living Years".

"Everybody Hurts" by REM used to move me a lot.

There are definitely a lot of personal songs that relate to times in my life.

Don't normally listen to country either but this song just caught my attention a long time ago.

There isn't a whole lot to the song, but lyrics are so sad!

That's the first one that came to mind. Hadn't heard it or thought about it until I read the thread title! (still makes me cry)

When I was in the process of striking out on my own last fall and moving up here, this song came on the radio as I was driving on I-275 outside Cincy. I was going across the big bridge that goes over the Ohio river, and had heard this song a million times at the radio station I'd worked at. That day I paid attention to the lyrics and thought of my Daddy back at home who didn't want me to leave more than anything, but supported me anyway... and I lost it...

Lightning Crashes~Live

The song was popular when my wife and I were expecting our first child. In fact, it was playing when she went into labor. We always had to turn it off because of the subject matter.

Oddly enough, My wife and I find ourselves expecting a new baby and this song seemed to have a resurgence during the first 20 weeks or so.

yep ... and his wailing (soaring on "make you cry") makes me a bubbling idiot. I have said this before ... this is the absolutely 1 song that nobody but SP should ever touch. That's just my opinion. I know Deen and Jeremey have sung it live. Not sure about SA or Arnel. I refuse to listen (acknowledge) anyone trying to sing this song like SP.

Journey- "Mother, Father"... holy SHIT does that last part of the song trigger the waterworks.... especially with Perry's "angel bit"

Boston- "Hitch a Ride," since Brad Delp's death, has made me cry a few times..

Rush- "Time Stand Still." So friggin' beautiful.. one of the finest songs out there....

Porcupine Tree- "Where We Would Be" and "The Rest Will Flow." These songs have defined unexplainable feelings in my life and have a way of getting to me....

Marillion- The entire damn "Misplaced Childhood" album gets to me. My life in musical form. I don't know why I do it to myself but I find myself listening to it all the time.... and love it more with each successive listen.

Theme from Brian's Song.

Still one of the all time best movies. It brought me to tears.

Although technically it was a movie...the song is what capped the tears off.

Dear John/Styx tugged pretty hard. I lost my closest friend/cousin to cancer when he was 30. He was a little wild and the song really fit.
