Burton Cummings - Above The Ground (Triple S !)

Postby Ehwmatt » Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:21 am

Burton Cummings's new album just came out Tuesday, at least in Canada. For those who don't know/remember, he was also the voice of The Guess Who. Great album and I actually think a lot of MR fans will find something to like in this album - lots of uptempo numbers with great instrumentation/production. If you don't believe me, go to Burton's MySpace at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =177855839 and listen to "We Just Came from the USA."

http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/176 ... nd&x=0&y=0

The package is great... a nice 3 way "softcover" case (ala Revelation), 19 original songs on one disc, a nice lyric booklet, and a great making of the album DVD.

Triple S, you all over this yet? I know you're a huge fan like me.

Picked it up in Calgary yesterday. Just got home, it's still in my suitcase, unopened - but it'll be out and playing within the hour! Thanks for the reminder! (The young sales clerk at the store got quite a chuckle out of the fact there's an 'explicit lyric' warning on the package - he seemed to think Burton was too old for that kind of thing :) ).

I'll tell you one person who stands out on this album besides Burton - the Carpet Frogs' drummer. Don't have the CD by me right now, it's in the car, so I don't know if their names are in there or not (prolly are). But man, his playing is GREAT on this CD - really fits the music, very musical, very catchy, some great grooves.

Yes - Carpet Frogs - very good band.

My favorite track on the new CD (so far) is - coincidentally - Revelation! The lyrics are so fun, sounds very Guess Who-ish to me!

I do remember him and the Guess Who. Haha, an oldie here. Really liked his vocals and their songs. Will have to check it out.

I'm really liking Pretty Pictures, Crazy If You Mess With The Gods, Dreams, and Any Minor Miracle. But, there's so many great songs, which is amazing. I usually get fatigued listening to a 19-song album. Really, the only song I can't see myself coming back to often is Junior Won't Behave. Not big on that one.

Thanks. Think I'm going to get this one. Always liked BC's voice. Just took a listen to the soundbytes on the site and I like them. Dreams reminds me of another song of his and can't put my finger on which one. :?

Hmm... I get the same thing when I hear Dreams. I don't think there's any one song I could compare it to, but there is just that signature Burton ballad feel throughout the song

Get it Deb, you won't regret it!

Dream reminds me slightly of Timeless Love (especially the "ahh ahh ahh" at the beginning).
