there is dissent and there is the stupidity of racism. dissent is healthy. to dissent based on ability to speak or lack of is unfounded. w in my opinion is an atrocious public speaker. obama is gifted as an orator. i imagine there will be legitimate causes for dissent. the ending of our occupation of iraq, health care for citizens, help for higher education, these are reasons some might dissent as they disagree with these policies.

So? What's your point? After catching up on some reading today I've seen that there are "other" viewpoints that I don't agree with and addressed the issue already.

The ears statement was silly, but the point about regurgitating well written monologues was valid. Should she have used a parakeet as an example, rather than a monkey?

As to the policy issue, why was it considered racist when someone placed a picture of Obama on a box of waffles, to illustrate has "waffling" on issues?

It would have been better to use a parakeet as an example. Blacks, Filipino's and other darker skinned minorities usually aren't compared to birds so that would have been fine. It seems like common sense not to write something that, even without intent, could be construed as a derogatory analogy. I had my 19 year old son read the statement. When he asked what we were discussing, I said Obama's ability to give a great speech. He then asked me why we used the monkey analogy as he thought it ws offensive. I assured him it may not have been intentionally written with those thoughts in mind but I just wanted his honest opinion as an outsider coming into the middle of a conversation. He proved my point that interpretation is in the eyes of the beholder, so think before you speak still applies in this day and age.

Right on. That was my interpretation. If nothing else was implied with the use of a monkey then it would have made more sense to use something that could actually speak or at least mimmick speech, as was the supposed point to the analogy, which a parakeet is capable of and a monkey is not.

i do think obama has above average intelligence. it takes a smart person to realize they don't know everything and seek the wisdom of others when needed. he ran a beautiful campaign. compare obama's reaction/response to the knee jerk reaction/response by mccain to the economic crisis.

Clinton proved that if you surround yourself with intelligent people you can over come your own shortcomings. Many of us in the service were concerned about Clinton's inexperience in military affairs. When the situation escalated in Haiti, he rose to the task and really impressed us. I am sure he took guidence from his advisors and it paid off in that instance.

..my point in directing you to reread was because I had said what I wanted to already and you wanted to continue the discussion. Then Tree and Deb come in to continue to stir the pot and Deb brings up other stuff just to get personal so why don't you ask yourselves that question.
But yes racial slurs was the last topic of conversation so what..do you want to get back to it now? I'm willing.
