Frigas keyboard cover ups {it doesnt sound like a real voice}annie89509 wrote:I must be one of the last MR'er to watch this dvd. Anyone know whose voice it is that sings the angelic note over the instrumentals at the end of the song? Wasn't Deen because his mouth was clearly shown as closed.

It still sucks ass either wayStoneCold wrote:annie89509 wrote:It was definitely set on low -- hard to tell if it's a human voice or another instrument. Don't think they have the nerve to put SP's voice in there, would they?
Could be AP on a pre-rec backtrack as well.

I just watched it,it has to be a synth tone they put in there along with there background vocals.Friga isnt playing it,so it was programmed in there. He could have played it live, its not hard,he doesnt need both hands to play the piano ,Ross can covers the bass. WhateverEhwmatt wrote:RumTumJM wrote:At what, specifically, can we find this debated note?
It's after the final "Have faith... believe" when the band is kind of dramatically pausing as Neal hits some power chords behind the lyics. Then the drums re-enter and after a bar or so you hear "OH-WHOOOOOOOOAHHHH-OOOHHHHH-OHHHHH-OHHHHH." It's SUPER high and until I saw the Houston DVD, I ALWAYS thought it was a synth voice tone. As for who's doing it on the Revs, I'd guess it's either a synth tone or it's the sample from the album triggered by Cain.

They are playing to a clip live like they always have. They were everytime I saw themEhwmatt wrote:stevew2 wrote: I just watched it,it has to be a synth tone they put in there along with there background vocals.Friga isnt playing it,so it was programmed in there. He could have played it live, its not hard,he doesnt need both hands to play the piano ,Ross can covers the bass. All he'd have to do is touch a key. Sometimes they'll leave a really low bass key programmed to trigger a sample like that and then the rest is piano tones, for example. I'm sure he has to trigger it unless they're still playing to a click live.

i agree, its not that nessicary, fuck leave out some background vocals. What i noticed with Arnel and Steve Augeri, when they would try to sing Faithfully they would get out of sinc cause they were singing to fucking clock. How are suposed to sing that with feeling when you got Flaming Friga playing piano like a fucking robot.i think some of it is pure lazinessEhwmatt wrote:stevew2 wrote:They are playing to a clip live like they always have. Click tracks live are lame![]()
Wish they'd stop doing it. Joe Walsh sometimes just goes off on an extended solo just to piss Henley/Frey off. He can't stand playing to a click. At least that's what the James Gang drummer, Jimmy Fox, has told me.

They have always done it. they wernt doing it for Arnel. Frontiers does it live, and they sound like Journey during the Perry days. they might be lacking a background vocal here and there, but id rather here everything live, his vocals cover any ]lacking in a background vocal here and there. Journeys taped background vocals annoys the the fuck out of me. If it werent for Arnels vocals, id most of the time at the beer wagonOnestepper wrote:stevew2 wrote:i agree, its not that nessicary, fuck leave out some background vocals. What i noticed with Arnel and Steve Augeri, when they would try to sing Faithfully they would get out of sinc cause they were singing to fucking clock. Agreed, but I also think wanting to put out a consistent sound may have a lot to do with it as well. There are not many modern day bands that can sound like Journey live during the Perry days. That includes the new J-lineup. It's laziness, but I also think it's driven, at least in this instance, from a lineup wanting to give the new guy every opportunity to sound consistently good night in and night out. I don't like them, and when I heard the MF version on the DVD, it was my first thought that a click track was being used. I guess I've just become accustomed to it these days, which sucks.

Just put it out there and play. One thing I love about live shows is the room for error and improvisation.
